The two physician-faculty I interacted with last week during interviews were ortho & derm. This confused me as well with all the emphasis on "cura personalis" and community service. I also think it has something to do with cost of attendance and the type of students attending (private, Catholic?). The latter could be due to ability to overcome the price tag. Students I talked to didn't seem to care much about the cost of the school or cost of living.

I got that feeling as well. All five of the M1's living with my student host are planning on going into ortho.

Ah so you stayed at the Georgetown inn as well? Also affectionately known as bro house 🙂 haha sorry don't mean to out anyone. Those guys were super nice though

As far as students not caring about the cost of the school or the cost of living; I've encountered that attitude at almost every private school I've interviewed at. That said, it seems especially egregious to overlook this concern at a place like Georgetown, which is one of the most expensive schools in the country.

And I too got the impression that the Georgetown student body is heavily oriented towards training for specialty careers, and the path to primary care through Georgetown School of Medicine does not seem as readily apparent as it is at other schools. I have no doubt that Georgetown is committed to the underserved, but to me, this took some wind out of the sails of the cura personalis rhetoric. Still though, I think Georgetown would be a great place to go to medical school...hopefully we can check it out more at second look! 🙂

Sounds like it. I can't tell you how huge it was to be able to relax the night before the interview with a group of down to earth guys like that. If I hear any good news from Georgetown I owe those bros a huge debt of gratitude.

Yeah I thought so too. I thought Mrs. Sullivan did a really excellent job addressing the issue of Georgetown's relatively high COA in her presentation though. Still it would have been nice to hear some of the students' perspectives.

Completely agreed, I thought she was very frank about CoA.

Just called admissions. I interviewed Oct 2nd, and he told me I probably won't hear back for another 6 weeks, maybe more. Just in case others wanted an idea of how long to expect..

Looking on the thread from last year, early/mid October interviews found out on 12/5 so unfortunately that sounds about right... I'm going to go crazy waiting til then!

That is what they told us during interview day

I called earlier today and the people who interviewed in mid September should hear back "within the next few weeks." :luck:

How soon after the secondary was complete did interviewees get their interview invites?

I was complete on July 27 and got an II on September 14. Don't lose hope! 🙂

Hi everyone,

I took some notes during Ms. Sullivan's lecture and just got around to typing them up. PM me if you want me to send them to you!

who do we send letters of interest to? Or do we upload them through the website?

No, I was just curious. I interviewed mid-sept and recently was told it would be another 2-3 weeks until they release decisions for my day.

I may be incorrect but I thought they did not accept LOI's until after a decision has been made. Either way the LOI should be addressed to Anne O'Donnell and emailed to Mrs. Sullivan. Good Luck.

+1

I'd wait until your decision to send a letter of interest.

was planning on waiting. just wondered who to send it to at that point

When did you interview? Just curious about a timeline for when I can expect a decision. I was hoping after the committee met on the 25th but I interviewed mid-sept as well.

Hi Guys,

What did people do as far as thank-you letters after your interview? Did anyone email them? or is snail mail more appropriate...

Snail mail might come across as more sincere, but I've often used email if it's the only contact information I have available for my interviewer.

Thanks so I sent a thank you email to my interviewer because she just provided email... but do you think I need to send a thank you to the admissions office?

I think you're fine simply having sent a thank you email to your interviewer.

soooo it's been 8 weeks since my interview... hopefully they'll put me out of my misery SOON!

I submitted my secondary on 09/26, and in the email they said "When all of your application materials are assembled, you will be notified by e-mail that your application is complete and has been forwarded to the Committee on Admissions for review. Please allow up to 10 business days for us to process your materials."

Still no complete email, and it's been a month 😕😕

Should I call?

I would--I submitted 9/28 and was complete 10/02.

k thanks, mine still says only complete and the date

Me too, though I will now be checking it constantly haha

So my constant checking hasn't helped.

I received an email from admissions saying my status on the website had changed. I am now refreshing my status page for the 10th time, and still no word is posted. Currently at work in the ER. Pulse rate just shot up like a critical ambulance showed up. Definitely not sleepy anymore!

I wonder if it will actually post the status in the next few minutes.....or hours....
