I'm interviewing 1/23/13 (which seemed REALLY far off for something offered two weeks ago). Is anyone else interviewing in January? For those who have interviewed, I know you've answered this already but how do the students handle the financial situation?

A current student would be able to address this question more comprehensively, but from my limited observations they pretty much ignored it. I honestly was unable to get any candid input from any of the current students I met at the interview day, and since that was one of my main concerns I tried pretty hard. Mrs. Sullivan addressed some of the concerns I had with the high COA really well in the presentation she gave during the interview day.

The financial situation is not pretty. Most of the students I talked to were more or less resigned to having $300,000+ debt upon graduation. While that is indeed a daunting figure, it is manageable, particularly if you specialize. For example, you could do income-based repayment during residency, then, if public service loan forgiveness is still around, your remaining debt could be forgiven after 10 years (including time in residency and fellowship, during which time your payments would be minimal). This would mean only a few years making the ~$4500/month payments. Of course, the Public Health Service, and military are a couple other options.

All that said, Ms. Sullivan told us in plain language that for financial reasons, we should choose our state schools over Georgetown unless we are really passionate about cura personalis.

Barcu, it may have been stated earlier in the thread, but how much of your class would you say came off the waitlist?

Not sure. Listening to Sullivan's talk would probably give you a better idea (that was a while ago for me).

It doesn't come up much in conversation, but when it has come up (usually when we are giving tours or at the interview breakfast), it seems fairly common.

I've been complete 8 weeks with no response. Anyone else in the same boat? Or did anyone else wait this long for an update? I'm grateful to have survived the wave of rejections that recently went out, but it feels like why spare me if you're not going to hand out an II? I'm wondering how long to wait before contacting the admissions office about my application status. I thought Georgetown did faster reviews, but I don't want to seem impatient...

Did anyone who interviewed after 9/18 hear back at all, or know when we're supposed to hear back?

From what I read here, the adcoms meet today? IA: Sept 25. Good luck to all of us waiting...

I believe you will here back in two weeks from when today's batch starts hearing back. Unless it was the 2nd and last Thursday? 5 Thursdays in a month makes me a little unsure, but today they should be deciding on the last two weeks of September and next admissions committee meeting the first two weeks of October.
Of course I could be wrong, but that's how I understand it.

Just FYI, I was complete 9/6 and someone from admissions told me today that I should hear back in 2-3 weeks...ugh!

I was talking about interview dates, not complete dates... I read the previous post wrong...had accept/reject on the brain.

good luck everyone, hopefully we get those invites :luck:

They talk about it at the interview, but they thoroughly explain how it will not effect anyone of any non religious or other religious viewpoint. The impact is the Jesuit belief of gaining knowledge to help other, and they will not impose any "religion" on you

Does the religion aspect ever come up?

It will not affect your education at all, Jesuits are all about educating the person regardless of their beliefs.

Any news yet , for the last 2 week of September interviewees ?

My secondary was submitted on 09/26 and I'm still not complete.
I've called twice and sent an email after the second one (as told by the admissions person). It's been a week since the email, is there anything else I can do except sit tight?

This is really frustrating and turning out to be a waste of secondary fees! 😡

If the decisions were to be released tomorrow, would they be posted at midnight tonight?

Already midnight in DC, I was thinking the same and checked the site for a status change - no dice

3rd phone call this morning, just got the complete email (secondary submitted on 09/26).
Finally! :smack:
Now for another 10 weeks of waiting for them to review me.

Anyone hear back yet on decisions?

I have the feeling that the adcoms did not meet last week to decide on the interviews for the last two weeks of September....maybe this Thursday?. We are almost there:xf:🙂

Thats sure what it feels like to me

My idea is that they actually meet the second and fourth Wednesdays instead of Thursdays and announce decisions on Thursdays. So I'm thinking we'll hear back this Thursdays also.

I got my decision on a Wednesday so I don't know how true that is

Hey man, I was in the same boat. I sent mine in in early Oct and got the application submitted notification. Then I checked back two weeks later and my application was incomplete and I had to submit again. Ten days later, it said it was complete

I don't know why they'd tell us they meet on Thursdays then... I think more than anything it's probably just a delay from them making the decisions to posting them.

Maybe due to Sandy there were less interviews, and extra time available to evaluate previous interviewes and they met 2 consecutive weeks, and skiped last week to compensate? in which case they would meet this Thursday?. I think we are geting over-anxious, it's time to take a break from SDN...

does anybody know when they will reconsider waitlisted people post-interview again?!

9/5 Interview. Silence. Who knows what's going on haha

I know Mrs. Sullivan said we can submit an LOI if we are waitlisted. I have interviewed but no decision has been made...can I submit an LOI now since I really like Georgetown (prolly top choice)

Given that Mrs. Sullivan wanted full transparency for their admission process, and she never mentioned submitting a LOI before a decision, it doesn't look like your letter would be taken into consideration at this point in the game. I would wait until after you receive a decision.

I asked Mrs. Sullivan this and she said that what I could do is indicate my interest in the thank you note post interview and a proper LOI should be reserved if you are waitlisted. good luck!!

Yeah, I would wait. I don't think they accept many people early in the cycle (most of us get waitlisted). So if you write a LOI now, you'll have to come up with a whole new list of things to write about, possibly in just a few weeks depending on when you interviewed. I'd wait til you get a decision, then write and LOI to get off the waitlist. (And remember, there is a chance you will get accepted immediately)!

I just withdrew from GU and cancelled my interview for December 3rd. Hopefully one of you can schedule for that date! Good luck, all!

Since tomorrow is thanksgiving and the 4th Thursday, when does the Admissions Committee meet? Today? Next Thursday?

For all of you that have been waitlisted and are planning on writing LOI. You won't hear about being taking off the waitlist until late Feb, early March. Really what it comes down to is how many people decline their acceptances but it normally is around Feb/March. Just have to wait.

Hope that helps.

It does help, thanks! Simply knowing not to expect a decision until then is nice to know, for the sake of paranoia. 🙂

Does Georgetown inform their applicants regarding accpetances via email or mail? Thanks!

Anybody else interviewing on Friday? SO excited for this!! 🙂

This might not answer your question, but I was waitlisted via email. In fact, every correspondence I've had with Georgetown has been via email.

"You will be notified in writing if you are granted an acceptance. "
this is in the waitlist notice I got on the website

Are new decisions coming out this week? I interviewed on October 15th so I'm not expecting any news until december.

Yeah not really sure how things will pan out. I interviewed 11/1 and Ms. Sullivan told us we'd hear back in mid-December, but I'm thinking more like January unless they have some tricks up their sleeves...

I interviewed 10/5 and they told us we would hear before Thanksgiving.... so hoping for something this week possibly.

Has anyone heard about acceptance/rejection/waitlist from Georgetown that interviewed around Sept 20th? (It's the 10th week! And I'm DYING to hear something...!)

I can't imagine they would take more than the 10 weeks if they said "8-10" ???
