ahhhh, ok I just assumed they were at the same site. I really appreciate the help 🙂

No problem. I just don't want you to go to the wrong place. You don't need any more stress on interview days, though Temple's is very low-hey. 🙂

But yeah... the health science campus and the hospital are not in the same location as main campus. It would be awesome if they were, or if the regional line from the airport ran right past the HSC and the hospital. The same line that runs to the airport goes up very close to my house. As it is, it's too much of a PITA to take Septa to school so I drive.

For people getting interviews, when are you scheduled for? Does anyone know if Temple is receptive to in the area interviews? I have an interview at Jefferson 10/10 and am wondering if it's worth it to try and send an email to Temple and/or Drexel.

im on the the 18th. idk about the in the area interview, but they are only offering interview dates up to the end of september for now.

If I received my secondary a month and a half ago, but have not turned it in, is it too late to do that? Will the adcom look poorly on that?

I'm not sure that anyone can accurately answer that, but I know most like to see it in within 2 weeks of receipt. That being said, I took a month to turn mine in simply because I didn't have money after the secondaries before it. I think we will be fine because adcoms are not ignorant to the fact that many people do not have a lot of money yet still don't qualify for FAP.

I submitted my Georgetown secondary a month later and still received an II 7 days after submission. I believe schools that receive 10,000+ applications don't keep track of every little detail. Just my opinion.

Can someone please direct me to info on the community service opportunities at Temple? I have looked all over the school of medicine website and cannot find anything.

Interview invite today!! Very excited! Since Temple is only scheduling through end of Sept., it looks like 'in the area' emails would be pointless right now for Drexel and Jefferson.

complete date please?

In general, I think people should just post their complete date.

thanks!

Why do people want to know this? I don't get it.

Sent from my LT28at using SDN Mobile

The rationale is pretty straightforward: we want to know whether we should be madly checking our status pages, or if we should just expect to hear something by not doing anything, namely, by receiving an email.

I was checking my status page pretty obsessively, but still found out via email. I don't think there's much of a delay with them sending out the email, so just wait for it to come. Prior to that my status had said "Under Review" for a few weeks.

Good to know. I'll consider cutting my rabid status-checking down to once per day. (Currently have checked status 1-2x at all schools this morning.)

Wooooooo! Interview invite, yesterday! I didn't see the email until today because I don't check it every hour like everyone else on here! Do we have to schedule interviews for September, or can we wait until they open up more slots in October? It's a bit short notice for me, and it will be extremely difficult for me to schedule flights now for September. Any input would be much appreciated.

October is fine, but the earlier the better.

I actually called them yesterday with this same problem. They said the dates in September are the only ones available to us and that those invited need to schedule within two weeks of receiving the invitation or else they drop the invitation. I asked if there was any way I could wait until October, and was told no, and I needed to pick from the available dates.

Can any current students speak to housing/safety in the area? I've been living in Philly for the past three years for undergrad, and I know for a fact that Temple is a super shady area.

that's a major turn-off. is it kinda like GATech and Emory in GA?

I am not familiar with those schools, but I am from the area and can tell you that Temple is in the middle of one of the worst neighborhoods in the city. It's literally a medical school in the middle of the hood.

That being said I would still go there if I got in...

Same. I'm considering just keeping my place in South Philly and driving to school everyday if it comes down to it. Either that or find a closer place that isn't in that neighborhood. Temple is my top choice right now, but it's just that one aspect of it that scares me a little. :scared:

Yeah it is in a super shady area, but I've never felt unsafe (and I'm female). It is really much different from the undergrad campus in that way, as the campus is essentially only on Broad st and no students live around the campus, except for literally the street right behind the school.

With that said, the area that the hospital is in actually makes going to school there that much better. The cases you see at the hospital are very unique and often patients have advanced presentations of diseases that you will only find in an area like N. Philly. It makes for fantastic training when you see the worst of the worst of the worst every day.

thnx guys...well, that's unsettling...guess i won't be putting too many eggs in my temple basket, if you nomsayin.

Alright, thanks. I guess I have no choice. I got a very busy month ahead of me.

That's a good point. I spoke with several doctors who went to Temple, and they all made this argument in favor of me going there if accepted. Now how do I phrase this during an interview?

Ditto. I grew up in Philly and so I was probably more afraid of North Philly than a lot of the students from out of town or state. And like cer26 said, I've never felt unsafe.

Aiya, I wouldn't bother to move anyway. I live in Montco and drive in every day. If the Broad Street Line is close to you, that's also an option. It costs about $400 to park in the garage here for the semester.

Living in st. louis for the past 6 years kind of makes all these posts about schools being in the middle of the hood laughable to me. It's not scary at all living in the middle of a dangerous city. Just be smart about when and where you walk by yourself and you'll be fine.

Still hoping for an ii here.

+1 you can't beat the crazy things that happen in St. Louis

Got an II from Temple yesterday. Scheduled it for 9/11. Ominous, but it was the earliest date available. I'm planning to drive up there in the morning from Baltimore. Can anyone speak to the amount of traffic I may encounter or where I can park my car? (Don't want it to get stolen.)

What kind of car do you have?

1998 Black Honda Civic LX Sedan.

There is a parking garage directly across from MERB. Honda Civics are broken into, but the parking garage is relatively safe, don't have anything visible. Traffic isn't awful, except for 95, which can add 2-3 hours on a bad day.

I spent 2 years as a grad student at Temple Medicine, and it is in the worst part of the city. People will harass you, and I've been cursed at and spit at various times (I was just walking). Most of these people just want to remind you that you're in their woods, despite their woods being in the shadows of the medical school buildings.

All that being said, I only felt physically threatened a handful of times, and I was commuting at all hours of the night (3-4 AM was very common), so I was certainly taking some risks for the sake of my experiments. I'm also a sizable guy though, so I think that prevented some would-be harassers. I parked on the street, didn't keep anything valuable in my car, and never had a problem with break-ins, although a few of my friends did.

If you stand outside for any considerable amount of time, you'll likely see 1-2 uniformed officers within a few minutes, and there is normally 2 parked at the hospital practically 24/7. It is definitely not the safest, but Temple does a lot to keep it as safe as possible. Incidents do happen though, and I wouldn't feel comfortable travelling even a block off Broad Street at night.

submitted 7/10 and still have "under review" status...

Does anyone have a link to their student host list? I remember seeing it on my interview tab in Temple Med Online, but now that it's scheduled that tab is gone and I can't find it anywhere.

Just checked it out. For me it's in the home tab now, but they haven't posted the list yet.

still waiting on the student host list. hopefully it will be up soon! anyone else interviewing on 9/11?

Under review... do i stay in this status forever until the ii come? do they reject after that? how long does it typical take for the decision to be made?
