I found out today that, if you are waitlisted they don't call you. They mail you a letter.
Which... has made me more anxious that I have not received a call haha. But then again maybe they haven't reviewed all the 9/20 applicants yet.

The Lt Colonel called me... I believe he is the equiv of the dean. I put Navy on my preference but talked to the Colonel about switching to Army. The pref you put down probably won't be a factor.

I got the call late this afternoon when I was in a staff meeting - had to call him back afterwards. Whoops. Hahaha.

Emailed today for an interview invite next month! I submitted 9/18. Any pointers from those who just recieved acceptances (congratz by the way!)

Congrats to the other accepted peeps!! I got accepted Army too. After I get the official paperwork in the mail, I'm going to go ahead and withdraw the other apps!

Can't wait to have the tangible proof of acceptance haha. I got called by a Colonel as well, great guy!

Congratulations Guys! Looks like it was a great day here. 😀

joshb, congratulations, but just a word of caution. remember that the acceptance from USUHS is just a CONDITIONAL acceptance right now. meaning, we still have to pass both the federal background check and the physical exam review. of course, if you know nothings going to come up on either then you're probably solid, but if you have any suspicions that something might not work out be very careful about withdrawing apps or declining other acceptances.

I appreciate the advice! I know that my physical was good, and the check will be as well 🙂. When does that process get completed?

Does anyone know how the rest of the process goes, will there be any other hoops we need to jump through? If we are already physically qualified through DODMETS, we are good correct?

Withdrew from my interview invite today. I talked to some current students and have been thinking a lot about the long commitment and just don't think I can do it. I still would like to practice as a military physician someday and think the FAP route may be a better option for me personally. I hope my interview goes to someone here still waiting! And congrats on the acceptances!

accepted! USAF interviewed 9/13! congrats to all! will be revisiting soon!

Congrats! Revisiting? How does that work?

apparently you can revisit the school. they are planning dates called, "second look dates" where you can retour everything, get your questions in, see some of the facilities that were closed earlier. sounds exciting, i'll be doing that for sure.

Oh that sounds really cool! I'll have to consider that... maybe we can plan it so that the revisit can be a time to check out some places to live too haha.

Hey, for those accepted, did you get an email yet to accompany a phone call? I got the call but no email.

Hey Willy,

No, no email. That worried me at first too haha, so I called. We will be getting a packet in the mail shortly, but no one ever said anything to me about an email. I guess what happens is we get packet, fill out packet, send back. Then they send us an unconditional acceptance, and then we are good.

Thanks Joshy-poo, must have misheard over the phone. Guess, I just want to see something in writting! haha

Not gonna lie, I'm a little creeped out by the "joshy-poo" lol. But NP

And I agree, I want to see something in writing as well. IDK why they wouldn't send out immediate emails.. let me know when you get your packet, and I'll let you know when I get mine.

Haha, yeah no problem, I'll let u know when I get the packet.

I was accepted Navy but considering switching to AF. Any opinions?

AF and Navy offer different lifestyles depending on what type of doctor you become. Either one can be good an bad depending on what you are looking for. Why are you leaning towards AF?

Navy has a lot of cool stations like San Diego and Hawaii. AF is much less likely of getting stuck on a boat for 9+ months.

Yeah, better station locations for Navy but 60% GMO in USN compared to 22% with AF

Was about to ask a question concerning AP calc and USUHS. Found the answer... AP credit for calc DOES count for the requirement.

"Applicants must take all prerequisites under a letter grade system. Grades of D or D+ are unacceptable and do not satisfy the minimum requirements. College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and Advanced Placement (AP) credits cannot be used to fulfill the prerequisites; however, AP Calculus will be accepted as long as it is listed on your AMCAS application. Also, all prerequisites must be taken in a traditional classroom setting with a letter grade. Online or Internet courses will not be accepted for the prerequisites."

Anyone else who interviewed (I did 9/20) jumping every time their phone rings?

Just booked my flight for my interview! Anyone have recommendations for hotels? I would totally do the student host but I will be getting in semi late

Got in!!!!! 😀 Interview 9/20 non prior 11/10/11 3.4 cGPA and 3.5 sGPA

So nervous, interview tomorrow morning! >.>

But went by and poked around campus this afternoon. Nice looking place. Security staff was pretty relaxed (helps to have a military ID). Got a couple laughs at my shirt (Obey Gravity, It's the Law!). Traffic looked like it sucked coming out of the gate closest to building B, so woo walking!

Now back to finishing my security clearance paperwork...

Has anyone had trouble getting their secondary receipt confirmed? I mailed mine several weeks ago and haven't heard anything. Then I contacted the woman in charge of my application to ask her to confirm that she had it and she didn't email me back. I'm wondering if I should re-send certified mail or something?

That security paperwork was a B....! See you there in a couple hours. I'm so excited for this interview!

That paperwork was looong. But Pete was real quick about checking everything out and moving everyone through the security check.

Interviews seemed really nice. Real conversational. Sat chatting with one of them for an hour, didn't even realize it. Was a great opportunity and I think they sold me more on USUHS than anything else.

Now we wait to see if I get in. :xf:

It can take them a week or two to respond to any emails, if you're worried about it, give the admin office a call and see if they have it (they won't give you updates on progress, but they can confirm receipt if nothing else).

Not to be a debbie downer or anything, but don't hold your breath on having a second look. It would be awesome if there was. They did the first second look when I was interviewing (I'm an MS4 now), and it was a really great thing. However, since then they have tried to set one up and every year they cancel due to low funds. I really hope they have one for you all, just don't bank on it.

You can, however, still visit. Just email/call the office of administration and tell them you want to revisit - they'll ask for names of anyone wanting to come on base and will (theoretically) put your name on the list the front gate guards get. When I did that I called several times to confirm my mother and I were on the list, and while they said it would get done, it was not. Luckily when I got to the gate we explained the situation and they let us on. Since that was a few years ago and before the NNMC-WRAMC merger, I don't know how security would be with that today. But, it doesn't hurt to try, and you can at least start looking at the area even if they don't let you back on base.

Good luck to all, and congrats on everyone having received good news so far. 🙂

For those accepted, how long after the call did you receive the packet they send?

I'm having paranoid thoughts that I had a mental break and just imagined getting in  hahaha :scared:

Thanks!

Just out of curiosity, was anyone scheduled to interview this week, but had it cancelled because of the hurricane??
(I'm kind of trying to guess if the admissions committee meeting, for acceptances, etc, will be cancelled....) Thanks!

Call the admin office and see if they're still planning on conducting interviews.
The admin committee... idk; you can call and ask, but they generally don't answer those questions anyway, lol.

If you go to www.usuhs.mil and look in the lower left corner you'll see the operating status of the school. I wouldn't call today - we're closed. But I would imagine usuhs will be open tomorrow.

Current students... What are your experiences doing research in Med school? Is it hard to get your name on some published papers?
