2024-2025 Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those in the waitlist, I spoke to a previous Dean of Admissions and these are his words:
"You are in a very good position! They take anywhere from 80-100 people from the waitlist each year. The committee only fills half of the class at this point in the year and uses a robust waitlist to create the class"
Waitlist at USUHS is still a great outcome, so remain positive. I hope I see you all in the Fall. Will make sure to shave both my beard and my head haha.
was it captain liotta by chance?

Has anyone else not had their DODMERB update with the exam results? I completed mine back in early November

i would maybe reach out to DODMERBs and possibly the place you went to see if they turned in the paperwork. but i’m not sure. definitely ask your case manager

Placed on hold a while ago, sent an update letter about a month ago. Is there anything I can do? I have a couple of A’s but I’ve always wanted to pursue military medicine. I don’t plan on doing HPSP.

Hey everyone! I don't know if someone has been in a similar boat with needing to change exam dates, but I just had to push back my physical exam to deal with a family emergency in another state, and now the date is past the 30 day window they wanted from the time of my interviews. Has anyone had any problems with being outside the timeframe, or recommend that I contact an advisor to explain? I am worried it will reflect poorly.

Email your advisor and cc Joan Stearman notifying them of your circumstances. Better to provide an update than not.

I hope all is well with you and your family. Sending prayers your way.

Are the interviews open or closed file? Any advice? Thank you!

Do we think any decisions will come out next week? I can’t take the waiting 😭
I’m sure. We are actually approaching the last few weeks of interviews so the pool might close for this year soon.

Sorry I'm late to responding, but I had a similar situation. I potentially would have been unable to finish my physical exam and unable to accept an acceptance within the requested time frame (Army stuff). I just contacted them, and they said they would make an exception. They stuck true to their word and didn't rescind my acceptance fortunately haha

Have my interviews next week, does anyone have general advice or things I should be ready to speak about? MY II email also mentioned that next week is the last week they are doing interviews.

Make sure you have a solid answer for why military medicine > civilian medicine. Might not hurt to express something like “yeah there are going to be some difficult challenges like being away from family and I understand that but it’s worth it for me.” I was asked if I was also applying for HPSP and when I said yes, the MS4 interviewer said “ok great, that’s a good thing.” Both interviews were fairly casual, esp the student one. Make sure you have some good questions prepared to ask them!

That's what I exactly did to prepare. Make sure you have solid reason for pursuing military medicine and show how you demonstrated leadership.

Interviewed 10/28 and still have not heard anything… should I reach out? Medically cleared
If I were you I would refer to the guidelines they give. i don’t know them by heart but they have a timespan for you to hear back based on interview date. for october first week it was like 8-10weeks. If it’s outside that range then I would probably email. But i think there may be a statement saying somewhere that they take questions about your progress in February… I would just look for those guidelines

Has anyone receive post-ii decision this week? Still waiting from early November.

I just interviewed and this is what they shared in the email:

  • If you interview in September/October, you MAY hear a response in eight to ten weeks.
  • If you interview in November/December, you MAY hear a response ten to twelve weeks.
  • If you interview in January/February, you MAY hear a response in twelve to fourteen weeks.
