Is time moving extra slow for anyone else??

Well we are down to four more days, so I am just lookig forward to getting an answer either way. If it is a rejection, then I will at least know to invest the additional money in further applications and interviews.

I am so nervous. I can't believe we only have 4 more days. Really trying to stay positive but not build up too much expectation. I would LOVE to see an acceptance in my e-mail Friday! It's so incredible that it's this close.

All of you have me on the edge of my seat. In the future, I'll be applying EDP to KU as well. I'm rooting for each of you this cycle. I'm looking forward to reading of all the acceptances awarded to those of you on here.

I think we all hope to see it, but only 60% will...Not sure what will happen, but for now, I am just going to relax, focus on work, and keep checking to see who else is joining in on the fun.

for the secondary, what did you guys pick for the interview campus and 1st,2nd, 3rd choice to attend?

I guess it is 3 for 3! Congrats to the both of you! I got mine too. I had a lot of people to call before I posted here. Looking forward to the official letter!

Congrats! I applied regular decision and got an interview invite today! I'm very excited. 🙂

Congratulations to all of you! I can only imagine how you all must be feeling! I have an interview coming up in a few days here and I was wondering if you would be willing to give me some tips. I have no idea what to expect and would be greatly thankful if you were to share with me your experience and any/all advice, tips and so on.

Hey guys, I am debating whether to apply to the University of Kansas or not... I'm OOS but was born in Kansas city, my dad also did his Ophthalmology residency at UKMC - will this have any bearing on getting an interview or are they strictly looking for medical school ties?

I'm doing an SMP at Georgetown which has 6 med school classes, so if i presumably end up with stellar grades will I have a shot? 29P / 3.35ug

THanks in advance! good luck to everyone else.

Given your stats, you'd probably have an easier time applying elsewhere. The secondary application for KU is LONG. Also, I went to a meeting where the dean of admissions was talking about how hard it is for OOS applicants to be accepted - she literally said something along the lines of: "people we accept usually have good stats AND have had some sort of major, life changing experience".

That said, if you have Kansas ties and good ECs, I think it'd be worth a shot! Hope that helps 🙂

ahh ouch... Will having a relative (father) who is a physician that went to KU for his residency count as a "good kansas tie?" Thanks for the responses

Possibly. I would call admissions and ask!

Sent from my phone.

Didn't you say you were born in KS too? How long did you live here? You can talk about how much you want to come back to this area...i mean you can try. KU took about 8% out of state this year i believe

Did your dad do his residency at KUMC (Kansas university) or at UMKC (university of missouri) because those are two very different things. Couldn't tell from the original post as the letters could be either of the two.

Also, I am currently a second year here at KU so if you guys have any questions about anything feel free to send them my way. I am a student ambassador and help out with lunch and tours for the interviews so I may have met some of you EDP applicants and will probably see a few of you for your upcoming interviews so I am more than happy to answer just about anything. Good luck to everyone and I will try to check back every week or two.

I suppose this is a question I could ask during the interview, but I was wondering if you could tell us a little about the new Cancer Center. Has it impacted your education as a medical student? Has it provided students with more exposure to things like research or clinical experience? If so, how?

If not, what other programs/facilities contribute to the education and medical experience of the medical students here?

Sorry if that was a loaded question 😛

I don't think the cancer center is new... I think it's just a new national cancer institute designation. Just an FYI 🙂

KUMC --rock chalk, Jayhawk!

Any regular decision folks or re-applicants (or both) happen to know how often invitations for interviews are sent out?

How long, typically, once a secondary application has been received and completed does KUMC notify about interviews?

Can someone describe what "conservative' rolling admissions means.. I've heard that a percentage are accepted in each wave of interviews, then the majority are in March? But does anyone know what that percentage is?

Ha, no problem. Obviously we were learning about cancer before the NCI designation so I would say it doesn't impact the first 2 years of school and maybe us less as students but is a huge boost for the medical center. This designation will give KU the tools to bring in high quality, big name cancer researchers which helps bring in money and raise KU's rank as far as medical schools because a large part of those rankings is research money. Secondly, and more importantly, it really opens the door for cancer clinical trials which is great for patients in the area that have run out of treatment options and can now be involved in new trials. As a 3rd and 4th year on rotations or if you are someone interested in clinical research this is a huge advantage and opportunity. If I remember right, only about 66 places across the country have NCI designation so its not as if every university or hosptial can say that. Hope that helps?

As far as sort of the culture and uniqueness of KU is that it is an extremely cooperative student body. There is no curve so theoretically the whole class can get a superior (our version of an A). Competition is very minimal if it all and we have a student share drive where people can post helpful study guides, powerpoints, websites etc. It is a great dynamic that you don't necessarily see a lot of places. We are also exposed very early to hospital/clinical experience (the first month of school) and are in the hospital following a preceptor and practicing skills in the hospital at least once a month seeing actual patients. Let me know if you have anything else and of course ask tons of questions to the students during your interview!

n12- typically interviews are sent out about once a month if I had to guess. It really isn't dependent, as far as I know, as to when your application is complete but rather how competitive your application is assuming you got it in fairly early. If you turned it in closer to the deadline (like I did) your interview invite is likely to be sent out a little bit later. Side note: if you are out of state they usually do most/all OOS interviews in February.

womp- "conservative rolling admissions" basically means that you have to be near the top of the list to get an outright acceptance (as opposed to a hold). They will explain at the interviews but basically each interviewee gets a score and is ranked on a cummulative list. Each set of interviews they take about the top 5-10% (I believe, I could be wrong) and also send rejection letters to about the bottom 10% after each interview group. Everyone else gets a letter saying they are placed on hold and will get a final answer in March. That way if you get a late interview they still have plenty of available spots and you aren't interviewing for a waitlist spot, you actually have a legit chance to get an automatic acceptance. Let me know if thats not clear.

Accepted! :soexcited:

I just got the letter in Lawrence today. It was postmarked on November 6th and I interviewed on October 17th.

I'm so happy and I still can't believe it.

Good luck to everyone still waiting to find out! :luck:

I don't know if I'm posting this right but I got an ACCEPTANCE today! I am totally shocked and overjoyed. I was really discouraged after interview day because everyone I talked to had already applied and been rejected, but I got a lovely surprise in the mailbox this evening! The envelope was slightly thick but I told my husband it was probably just long instructions for what to do when on the waiting list. LOL

Interviewed Oct 17th

Mleefuturemd and nightowl09, congratulations to you both. Do you mind sharing your stats? Are you both IS?

Thanks!

I've been complete for about 6 weeks now. How long does it usually take for interview invites?
