For those who have already been accepted, did any of you receive a scholarship offer with your admission letter? It seems that some students from past years received these offers with their acceptance letter, but I was under the impression that we would be considered for scholarships only after completing an additional scholarship application.

35 MCAT? You are guaranteed an acceptance - even if you have no ECs - UNMC will want you to boost their stats and raise their rankings.

I mean not necessarily, Melissa. There was a 36 that got waitlisted last year or the year before. A couple more 35s that got rejected as well.

Thank you! This has been a dream come true!! I am praying for the rest of you guys. Crossing my fingers for all of you!!

CONGRADULATIONS 1000X!!!!

I knew it all along!!!

Please now pray for me!!!

I am praying to god right now that we can be classmates - it would be such a blast to share all 4 years of med school together with an amazing person like you!!!

I have been communicating with God for the past three weeks! I have got your back, Melissa.

Bandit - check your inbox.

Not true, at least for OOS. I just got the small envelope this past Monday. My exit interview with Gigi is scheduled for next week.

Real bummer, since my wife and I were hoping to move back to Nebraska after a few years in Colorado.

Anyone know the link to the accepted class group on SDN? I heard there was one but I couldn't find it.

Sorry to hear that. Did they not have a piano in your interview room? A little Rach can go a long way. 😉

Sorry again. I am sure that if you are not successful this cycle and fix what Gigi tells you, you will for sure get in next year. Something that I think helped me out a lot was how passionate I was about a career in medicine and I think that shined through on my interviews and my personal statement. Good luck again!

Rachmaninoff? I love his works!!

You can probably tell by my avatar that I am a classical musician as well..haha. I play the violin..

Jeez, all of us? I trained as a classical pianist, took my master's degree in piano performance from CU, sang in the graduate choir.

Holy! I did my minor in music performance at U of C - Boulder. We must have crossed path!!!

No, but he did start seeing show tunes. I busted out a harmonica and played Blues Traveler hits for 20 min, and I haven't heard anything yet. So hard to woo these interviewers these days...

Are you serious? You played the harmonica during your interview??

I had an interviewer that asked me to speak Russian when I told her that I am trilingual....

Rarely. Especially here.

...and actually I think it was a jaw harp...

Hehehe. I didn't get this on my med school interview but when I told I was pentalingual, I had to speak in 5 languages for my truman interview. Lol

Gosh, I just can't believe how friendly folks are on this forum, both those already accepted and those still perched under the sword of Damocles.

When I spent last spring studying for and taking the MCAT, I viewed everyone as a competitor whom I would need to outperform. When I attended my interviews, it really seemed like I was surrounded by future classmates and colleagues. I hope it eventually turns out that way, since I didn't meet anyone that I didn't find intelligent and engaging.

Anyway, new avatar to brighten everyone's day - my daughter last Fourth of July. And yes, that's a piano in the background...

She is cute!!! You must be a proud dad! I never saw the point in competing with each other to the point where you are unhappy. It's a long road ahead...lets stick together to get through it. It's the only way to do it! Lol.

Did anyone else receive an envelope with information about their summer research program? It sounds cool but I don't know how they expect us to find a faculty member and write a proposal in a month.

Have you been accepted to CoM yet???

Hey folks -

So I spoke with Sue and they said we will receive the financial aid scholarship stuff in late April or May...so sit tight. Hopefully they will pay for my tuition ...which is prob not likely. 😛

The thing she did say was that they award scholarships to top half of the class...which is awesome!

Wow - for sure you will get a full ride - 😉 😉 A true husker doc!

I got that. I looked online for professors and made a list of about 8 that I would be interested in working with. I sent an email to my "top choice", basically saying that I'm interested and that I'd like more information if they'd want to be a faculty sponsor. I think the board wants incoming 1st years to get experience with this, so I doubt they'd make it too difficult to obtain. We'll see, and I'll keep y'all posted if I hear anything!

On an unrelated note, shouldn't we make a Facebook page/group soon? I want to start meeting my future classmates 🙂

How exactly are they going to determine the "top half"? MCAT? GPA? Combine those two? Rank each acceptance and weigh in activities? 😕

How do you know they want incoming first years to do this research stuff?

And I'm also on board for a Facebook group! Who should create it?

In the letter, and online, it said "first year students, in particular, are encouraged to engage in research during the summer and seek scholarship support" I'm assuming that means "incoming first years", but I guess it could also mean "current first years". Worth a try at least!

I got a reply from a professor, who said she hadn't updated her online profile in a long time, because she is no longer doing active research. She said she'd forward my name to her partners though, so crossing my fingers!

Lol. I wish. But I am not sure it will be that late. Some have gotten full tuition right after their acceptance letters. I think one of my friends got one in late January/early February.

Who in here has yet to hear back??

Adcom tonight is gonna review 70 apps from what I was told...

I just got a small letter from UNCM. Figured as much. They don't care much for OOS applicants. Out of 2,500 they select 10-15 OOS.

GL everyone!

UNMC actually has like a 50% acceptance rate for OOS interviewees...

Should call Gigi and ask for an exit interview - I think they have a secretary present at all the committee meetings to type up everyone's discussion of you.

+1.

It's good to have a rough idea how many spots are left...etc etc.

Edit: A friend just told me how DESPERATE we sound.... like we have fallen to the bottom of a well and asking for help... LOL!

I am an OOS who got accepted this last week! Really excited about this school and will most likely matriculate here. I am definitely interested in getting the Facebook group going. I am also currently trying to find a mentor for research this summer.

Gigi emailed me. I asked her to previously bc I have issues with my PO box in hawaii
