Waitlisted. Sucks, sucks, sucks.... I've grown extremely frustrated with this process. I can just imagine there being one doc who just wants to hold out on my app because of a silly score. lol, Don't know if I can continue to make the sacrifices in order to pursue this career, nor how much more I need to do in order to convince all members that I'm worthy of obtaining a higher education. 😕

Well waitlisted is better than a rejection at least you still have a chance. Did they say anything specific about you being waitlisted? Is this your first year applying? Your MCAT must not have been too low otherwise you would not be considered at all.

Hi guys, I am going to try to apply this coming cycle and one of the things that is scaring me right now is the interview. Can someone PM me what the interview was like? This is my first time applying to med school and I have never had any interview experiences. Thanks.

it is pretty laid back. I personally think if you can easily carry on a normal conversation and answer questions honestly that it is nothing to get stressed out about.

Our school has students that interview write down how the interview went and what questions are asked. I went through all of these and collected the questions from the last three years for UNMC:

Most common gestion was tells us about yourself. (I did not get this question directly but he did ask ALOT about where I grew up and what I have done in my life)

What will you have trouble adjusting to in medical school?

Why Medicine? (I only had a few minutes for this one)

What did you do in college?

Describe your clinical experience?

What did you do this summer?

What are some challenges you've overcome?

How have you exposed yourself to Medicine?

What will be the hardest thing about the transition from UNK to UNMC?

Why UNMC?

What do you want written on you tombstone?

Was asked if would like to stay in Nebraska and what specialties interest me.

What is &biggest pet peeve?

Is there anything we need to know about your application?

If we would ask someone from your campus to describe you, what would they say?

What makes you stick out among the other applicants?

Most memorable patient while shadowing?

Volunteer activities?

Most negative experience (shadowing or otherwise)?

Any problems with grades or MCAT?

I don't think it's your scores. I had very similar scores as you, but maybe you could speak with Gigi to see what you could have done differently? I hope you make it in!! Good luck!

Hey MDclassof2017, I was scanning through this thread and I saw your posts. Can you tell me your stats for when you applied? I have a lackluster GPA and I am hoping to make it up in the MCAT. Thanks. Also, congrats on getting in.

Thank you so much for the reply, really helps.

I got the acceptance letter today. I'm IS, 30 MCAT, and 3.85 GPA. Feel free to PM me with any other questions.

...wanted to check in to see how people were doing with their UNMC apps...

What happened to MelissaThompson?

Still haven't heard back.

I have no idea what happened to MelissaThompson. All I know is that her account was on hold and then she was banned.

I haven't heard back yet either. I interviewed early October and from the conversations I've had with the Admissions Office, they review applications randomly. I also had to apply for IS status which was approved.

Does anyone know how many committee meetings they have left and if you are rejected do they inform you at that time or do they wait until after all reviews have been made?

Also, I have no clue what happened to MelissaThompson.

I'm in the same boat. I interviewed Oct. 5th and still have not heard anything. Gigi told me the same thing about it being randomly decided. I was told that the last of the decisions should be sent out by the first week if March.

I also interviewed October 5th, but was accepted in January so it truly is a random process by all accounts

Hey guys, quick question here about the interview. What did you guys wear to the interview? Did you guys go with a suit or just dress shirt and tie? Thanks.

You will stand out like a sore thumb if you don't where a suit.

I usually lurk this thread on Mondays to find good news of people getting accepted. Any good news this Monday?

Rejected. Good luck to everyone still in the run. I'll be back next cycle.

Has anyone heard anything this week. I thinks this is the last week they are meeting, has anyone heard anything else?

For the people that didn't hear anything back, does that mean its an rejection or will they actually be notified in the near future of the school's action (wait listed or rejection).

Put on alternate
MCAT 30
GPA 3.64

Not sure what the alternate is but i am still not rejected. I guess more waiting and hoping for some good news in the future. Good luck everyone else and hopefully some people got/get accepted this week.

Did you just get the letter today? Still waiting for something here ha

Does anybody know if there is a difference between wait listed and alternate?

Put on alternate list today via mail. Has anyone scheduled an appointment with Gigi to go over their application? I will make the appointment regardless, as UNMC is probably my top choice, but I am curious what the meeting consists of and what to expect. If anyone has any input, I would appreciate it. Thanks, and good luck to everyone that is still waiting!

theyre the same thing. the "exit interview" with gigi consists of her telling you what the committee noted on your file in regards to how to specifically improve your app to their liking

Hey guys, I wanted to register for the May 30th test but there are no more spots for that test date. I am now considering taking the May 18th one and maybe even the June 20th one. My question is that will the June 20th test date be too late for this cycle? Also, I haven't started on my personal statement yet so is there a way to minimize the delay to get my app in if I take the June 20th date? Thanks in advance.

You can submit your app, you just have to list that you're taking the MCAT

Hey kstate thanks for your help. I'm a first time applicant so there is a lot of stuff that I am not sure of about the verification process. AMCAS verifies your app after you submit it right? Can I have my personal statement in after I submit the app or does it have to be sent it with the app? I think my main concern now is that if I take the May 18th date, I will not be as prepared but if I take the June 20th date I will be late and be at an disadvantage. Did anyone who got in submit their app kinda late? Thanks again.

Hey - I would recommend that you read about the application process on the AAMC website. There is too much information that can't be clarified via SDN. It really helped me to know the background stuff. There are only one part of your application that you can change once you submit - your letter of recs. The rest - you have to submit them all at once. I recommend getting your app, transcripts in on the first day possible and not have to worry about them during the process.

In terms of the MCAT- June 20th is completely fine. But anything past July, you are pushing it.

Advice: start taking practice tests starting today. Not even kidding.

Hey MDclassof2017, thanks for giving me advice again. My problem with getting the apps in the first day is that I don't have a personal statement yet. My original plan was to take the May 30th test, spend a month writing the personal statement and by the time I'm done, the scores will be back too and I can submit my app altogether. After doing some searching it seems like June 20th date is ok because if I submit the app on June 30th (after getting my scores), it won't even get verified until late July. That's almost the same as taking the test in June and getting the scores back in July, but I have more time to study and I can work on the personal statement during that time and try to get it verified before all that. I think that's what you were trying to say too. Thanks.

Sweetie, no.

From what I understand, you are assuming you will get your score by June 30th if you take the June 20th test date? You won't get your score until July 23rd. And it also takes 6 weeks to verify.

So--

if you submit on
June 1st - you will prob get it verified the next day because there won't be that many apps.
The later you go, the longer it takes.
Submit it on June 30th - prob won't hear back until middle of August.

Did I mention you can add schools after you get your MCAT score?

So, I would submit it early and add only one school so you don't lose too much money (~100). Now if you found out that you bombed the MCAT, then you can withdraw your app. If you didn't, then you can add more schools. Does that make sense?

Personal statement - spend some time thinking about it while you take a shower each day. Write a couple sentences while you eat lunch/have breakfast/dinner. Whatever you do, start working on it now. Stay-up late if you need to. Whatever you do, just get the darn statement done by June 1st or close to early June

This is what I would recommend-
Take MCAT on June 20th
Submit app during the first week of June with just one school (prob UNMC)
Your app will be verified in early June and you will be "complete" on July 23rd when you get your score if u take the June 20th MCAT.
Secondaries will start to roll-in and you will finish them as soon as possible. If you "flunk" the MCAT, then take a year off or restudy for a later test date.

Now if you did what you were thinking -
Take MCAT on June 20th
Submit app on June 30th or whenever you got your score, then you won't be verified until mid August or maybe late August
Then, you won't finish your secondaries till September, which is kind of late...

I know it seems like a lot. I was in your shoes like two months ago. Haha. So, just take it one step at a time.

Hi all, sorry to jump in here, but I am currently a student at UNMC looking for a roommate for next year. Please email me at [email protected] if you are interested (and are female) or if you have any other general questions.

Best of luck to all!

Nope. but some of my friends got the regents here.

Got acceptance yesterday look forward to seeing some of you soon.

A little late to the party...but accepted MD/PhD and will be attending! I'll be moving up next weekend (from North Carolina), so I guess I'll see those of you doing summer research around!
