It's a sideways for the school to earn out-of-state tuition money (twice as much the normal tuition, I donna) from some SELECT applicants (60), while still getting its share of in-state applicants (120) and thus Florida state tax money.. Man, aren't they smart 😀.. I think I started loving this school which is located in my alma mater's campus.

It'd have been a great help to all applicants and a sweet service to Florida if Morsani family had just opened a brand new yet private medical school in/around Tampa or St.Petersburg instead of helping USF medical school to go sideways. There's potential amount of pre-meds in this region, and I doubt it'd have been a less preferred option over USF medical school being located in the same region. Only MHO..

Looks like it

Is it true that this school will not accept NY or CA resident applicants? What if they are willing to pay you the OOS tuition$$$?

Did you hear they are tougher on NY and CA residents? Or that it's just hard in general to get in as an OOS applicant?

Thanks but just one more question... So if a person were to apply to this program and get rejected would they still be in the running for USF or is it a pick one and you get what you get kind of deal?

I believe you can apply to be considered for both SELECT and Core programs.

SELECT is actually a very interesting program. The students receive extra leadership training and get specialized mentoring. Also, they've had the opportunity to meet with some very influential people. Lehigh Valley is supposed to be one of the better hospitals in the country, so it's probably also a positive to be able to train there.

I know several students from CA, so I don't think there's any truth to the NY/CA rumor.

Awesome thanks for the info...

Awesome thanks for the info...

The admissions director is actually from Cali... He served as an admissions coordinator at Stanford. The tuition for out-of-state is certainly higher, but I would agree. Don't believe the rumors!

does anyone know yet what the secondary is for this year?
I heard they wont start sending it out until end of july/early august. I also heard that they made some changes from last years secondary

Just got the following email:

Dear Applicant:

In the mean time, please review the following link to our Morsani College of Medicine Admissions page for valuable information. Please be sure to review the Application Information tab for FAQs as well as other pertinent application information.

Mr. Crunk Norris,

Look forward to possibly interviewing together!!!

Pretty sure that will do wonders...

Usf medical guy. U know where they are going to build the new medical school at? There is like no room on campus

And yea I heard the inside is super nice.

Recent usf grad,

they are building it at the site of the old usf clinic's which all moved to the new morsani center. The old clinis were located at the corner of BB downs and fletcher and are now deserted --

FYI, US news and world report ranked TGH as the best hospital in florida (higher than UM Jackson, UF Shands, and Florida Hospital orlando) ..

Here is a list of prompts:
1. What do you see as the most likely practice scenario for your future medical career? Private Practice. Health Policy. Academic Medicine. Public Health. Health Care Administration. Why do you feel you are particularly suited for this practice scenario? What knowledge, skills and attitudes have you developed that have prepared you for this career path?

2.The USF College of Medicine's Scholarly Concentrations program aims to support the educational development of medical students by providing opportunities for academic endeavors in areas of special interest. This program facilitates self-directed learning, enhances interactions between students and fosters relationships between students and faculty. Scholarly concentrations provide a forum where diversity of ideas and perspectives are valued. Each concentration includes elements of course work, practical application and scholarly presentation. How would the USF Morsani College of Medicine's Scholarly Concentrations Program help your personal career goals?

3.Describe a time in your life when you felt you were "at your best." Why did you choose this event, and how does it reflect your potential as a physician?

4.The University of South Florida, College of Medicine strives to educate a very diverse set of students who bring a variety of strengths and interests to the field of medicine. The definition of diversity is broad and includes (but is not limited to) lifestyle, race/ethnicity, geography, socioeconomic status and distance traveled through life. The definition of strength is also broad and includes (but not limited to) humanism, scholarship, intellectual curiosity, research and leadership. How do you feel your particular experiences, interests, and passions will add to the strength and diversity of the USF class and ultimately to the field of medicine?

5.Describe your ideas about how the medical profession can best respond to disparities in healthcare.

6. Who is the best leader you have known in your life? Describe what made her or him so effective and how they made you feel when you were around them.

7.Think about a person who has helped you the most in your life. Describe what they did and said, and the lasting impact they have had on you.

All have a 2000 character limit.

Secondary seems like quite a beast to me. Good luck to everyone!

There is an additional prompt if you are interested in the SELECT program.

You have chosen the program SELECT or BOTH at the onset of this application. Please tell us your decision for wanting to be considered for the SELECT program. 2000 character limit.

This is gonna be a long one

Damn that sounds long. Haven't got a secondary yet, do they screen applicants?

They do not screen. I think I was just in an early batch of people.

Missed another question.

If you have experienced academic difficulties, please explain the situation and how it was resolved. (Please explain all grades less than a "B" (including B-) or any "withdrawal" on your transcripts).

I wouldn't have that a B- to be that big of a deal.

Yeah I wouldn't think a B- would be a big deal either. Anything lower than that I could, but not a B-.

This secondary looks like a beast, almost or just as crazy as UMiami.

Still waiting to get a secondary though, gonna work on the questions now. Thanks Coolster for posting!

I'd say this one is even crazier than Miami since most of those are just "tell us about your hobbies" or whatever whereas these are actual essays. There goes my weekend...

You're right. Now I'm seeing this will be longer than UMiami. Still waiting on secondary...hopefully Monday

after receiving and submitting NYMC within 10 minutes, I would say that i am really not looking forward to this one. just the easy application would make me rather go there than here lol

Idk if my week long secondary hiatus provided a well-needed break, or just threw me off my power-through train. I definitely think USF's is one of the more difficult ones.

just submitted 😉 feels good man.

I bet. The beast being finished will be a good feeling. Waiting on mine still. Admissions lady said that they would all be sent out this week for sure. They were sending them out in bunches to avoid system overload.

Any current USF SELECT students that can weigh in as to the value of the program? As a Florida resident, the information seems appealing but I am having a hard time rationalizing paying OOS tuition if I were to be accepted to both.

Do they definitely not screen for secondaries? I submitted mine in June and received the email about getting back to me at the end of the month. But my friend who was just verified a few days ago received a secondary and I still have not. I'm wondering if it's worth inquiring with the school or if they do actually screen? Thoughts?

Hey I talked to them a few days ago. They do not screen everyone gets a secondary. They are sending them out in groups so the system doesn't overload or whatever. They said that everyone would get a secondary by the end of this week. I was verified like the first day and finally got mine today

Did anyone submit their state residency documentation through email instead of the application? I couldn't merge my files into one PDF so I had to e-mail, but they haven't yet updated my app status on whether or not they received it.

I guess I'll call next week.

Taken care of this morning!

I have not received a secondary and I want to get a head start on this one. I would appreciate if someone would kindly share their prompt 🙂

Quick question, for the residency classification, if im person claiming florida residency, then what do I put as my "relationship to the student". Self I guess? Just a little weird I guess.

Also whats some good reasons for getting a B-? I guess I could say writing wasent my strongest subject and was my first semester of college and how I learned to study better?

How long after you submit your secondary does it take for them to mark the residency form as recieved? I uploaded it with my secondary but it said it was not recieved after I submitted my application.

They're working on it. I had to e-mail mine separately and it took them about 5 days to say they received it. I was told they will be updating the secondary apps soon.

Does that mean you are checking off that you are independent? If so, I assume self should suffice. However, if you are under 24 and your parents/guardian live in the state, they should be filling out the residency form.

Wait, what? I'm a Florida resident; would I have to pay OOS tuition for the SELECT program? Cause yeah, that's not happening.
