Current MS1 here, post or pm if you have any questions. I'll answer to the best of my ability or direct you towards a better source.

I've got a couple of questions:
1. How cohesive is the student body--would you say people tend to be competitive, or is more collaborative and laidback?
2. What's the party culture, if there is one?

That'll largely depend on your class.

For my class:

1.) It's kinda hard to be competitive when you're P/F, so I don't think this would come to light until 3rd year. But, based on first year thus far, we're pretty collaborative and helpful to each other so I can't foresee a sudden change happening in 3rd year. We all have our closer friends (cliques), but I'd feel comfortable hanging out with any randomly selected group of my classmates.

2.) If this is your thing, you'll have no trouble finding a group of willing classmates and a venue to unwind. Post-exam parties are fairly consistent, but there are also events and groups that go out between exams, depending on the schedule.

The other classes seem to be pretty cohesive as well so it might be something they select for in admissions, but I can't say that with any confidence.

does anyone know if they allow you to defer for a year?

Sounds like a good group. Are you aware of any stealth ranking for the P/F done by the school or is it truly P/F for the first two years?

What's the general makeup of the class for CORE and SELECT in regads to trad/non-trad? Is the school accomodating towards non-trads for family issues, pregnancies, etc that you are aware of?

True P/F for years 1/2

H/HPish/P/F and ranked for years 3/4

I can't give a very reliable breakdown of trad/non-trad, from my perspective (trad) they fit in to the point where it's hard to tell the difference in most cases unless I hear their life story. Based on a crude calculation I'd say ~15-20% for the entire class?
There have been a few new parents over the course of the year. From what I saw, the moms got back into the swing of things very soon after the birth (missing a few "mandatory" things here and there). I'm not sure if this was due to an understanding administration or just their admirable work ethic. So, I can't really comment on how accommodating the school is with respect to pregnancy. Time off for family events, conferences, etc. is typically granted, within reason. Also, we get at least a week off after each block.

Where is it most common to live? Is Temple Terrace common or can it be more spread out with people nearer Tampa/Channelside?

Most of my class is concentrated in the New Tampa/Temple Terrace area but there are some of us that live in South Tampa and areas in between. It depends on personal preference (budget, traffic tolerance, atmosphere, etc.).

Care to comment on the SELECT/core beef that happened earlier in the school year?

I and the overwhelming majority of my classmates (core/select) thought it was much ado about nothing. It was largely the result of a misunderstanding, among a vocal minority, regarding the goals and methods of the two programs. Luckily...we had a mandatory meeting to iron these issues out. I haven't heard anything about it since that meeting so that seemed to satisfy those with concerns.

Would you mind going a bit into detail about this "beef" that occurred between SELECT and Core? I wasn't aware of this until reading this thread...

Thanks.

It was basically an argument between a couple classmates that got overblown (IMO).

Well, I got that from your previous post... and it was obviously a bigger deal than that considering the mandatory meeting, which is why I was asking for details if you have the time to provide them. If you don't or are reluctant to go into details, I completely understand.

So to be more specific, what I am asking is as follows:

1) What was the debate?
2) What was the cause of it?
3) What were the arguments of both sides?
4) Finally, what was the resolution?

I am sure I can't be the only one on here wondering this.

It's essentially as I described it, I wouldn't read into the mandatory nature of the meeting too much.

Here's a more detailed version of events:

SELECT is having one of their professional development lectures/discussions --> group of core students nearby are talking and one jokes about the discussion ---> SELECT student overhears this and takes issue with what was said ---> SELECT student confronts core student --> Dean hears about this and gets worried ---> Mandatory meeting to discuss

Summary: Just a run of the mill argument that got more attention because of the participants and the timing (earlier on, where a rift would be more likely to form, if ever)

All right, I understand. Thanks for taking the time to address this.

Has anyone who interviewed on/after 02/19 heard back from USF on a decision?

I interviewed on 2/26 for CORE and I haven't heard back yet.. So I hope that's good news since I haven't received a waitlist letter yet

Guess that gives me a gauge.. Interviewed 2/19 and still no waitlist/rejection letter or phone call...when will they release the news??

Just one other question if you don't mind. Was the letter sent to your "Permanent" or "Preferred" AMCAS address?

I ask, because some schools use the permanent address regardless...

Thanks friend.

my two addresses are the same so i don't know which one they send to.

Hey guys, I just got an interview invite for SELECT on 04/22 in Allentown, PA.
Do any accepted applicants, interviewees or current students know if the class is full yet or the post-interview acceptance rate? Also, any comments on the actual interview day would be appreciated. Im stoked to check out this program. 😀

As far as I know USF is not one of the institutions that simply interviews for wait-list spots. I would assume there are still acceptances to be given out. As far the interview day goes, I interviewed for the Core program so cannot really comment on the SELECT interview day. Congratulations!

Post-interview acceptance rate is relatively high because they don't exactly interview too many people for SELECT and they screen the interviewees with a lot of scrutiny. Congratulations on that interview! You are going to do great!

That is great news, thanks for the input guys! It's a shame I don't get to enjoy the sunny weather for a bit in FL, as the interview is in Allentown, but hey Im not complaining about the interview. 😀 Does anybody know if there is any sort of student-hosting program for the interviewees in Allentown, Pennsylvania (I'd imagine not, but its worth asking) or how the actual interview day is?

Hey! I interviewed for the SELECT program in Allentown a few weeks ago. Currently there are no third-year students in Allentown, since the program is so new (their inaugural SELECT class just completed their 2nd/ final year at Tampa, so I'd be surprised if they have any students to host you in Allentown.

I actually am so glad I got to tour the Lehigh Valley Hospitals for my tour: they're doing a lot to improve the quality of care and it's great to see. They had us sign a non-disclosure act for the interview, but they will tell you more about the interview the day of.

They really do pack a lot into the day: they provide a nice breakfast with fruit, you are in a teleconference room so you get to "meet" the fellow interview candidates in Tampa, as well as the staff in Tampa. You then get two presentations about the curriculum and about Lehigh Valley. You then go on a tour of the hospital, get lunch, do your interview, and go for another tour of the hospital. It's really a jam-packed day but I enjoyed it. Good luck!!

I only interviewed for CORE.. but I would recommend a coffee for brunch or midday.. It really was a packed day with a lot of information and I could have used some caffeine to stay more highly alert.

Thanks for the detailed description, that does sound jam packed, but a great day nevertheless. Have you heard back yet? I'm excited to check out the hospital system as well, thanks again for the info!

My app status changed to interview - interview not yet scheduled.
I did not receive an email telling me my status has changed and it doesn't say under the communication tab anything was sent. Do I need to call to set the interview up?

How do you check the status? Is it online?

Have you gotten an e-mail for an interview invite? Usually they will e-mail you to schedule an interview. I don't think the system is used much after the application is complete and submitted.

You can check your status where you submitted your secondary.

Yea no email just a change on in app status. Even the communication status doesn't she anything since I received confirmation of a completed secondary.

when do most people start looking for roommates and a place to live? and how

I interviewed March 5th, A few weeks before I had the same thing happen, my status changed to Interview- Interview not yet scheduled. I sent an email the next day asking what that meant and if I had to do anything, and the next morning I had the interview invite email in my inbox. I think the review committee just updates the file in their system and whoever is in charge of sending out the emails to coordinate it all may just take a couple of days to get around to the people who were approved for an interview. Just my guess.
You here anything yet?

for anybody that has interviewed in Allentown, Pa.
Logistics wise, what would be the best airport to fly into, and hotel to stay close to the location of the interview? I'm coming from Chicago
Thanks guys!

Has anyone else heard back that interviewed on Feb. 19 or afterwards? I feel like there are about a dozen of us waiting to hear back. Mainly curious because I know their second look is coming up soon!

Still no news... I feel several groups who interviewed should be hearing back soon/together?
