2013-2014 University of Central Florida Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My status is no longer displayed on my dashboard... Is this the case for anyone else??

Nvm, it's back.

If we were EFI like a long time ago and haven't received an interview invite yet should we assume the worst?

Mine disappeared and came back too. What does it mean?!

(I think it might mean I should stop checking my status so much)

Two things:

Once you reach EFI, your status will not change until 1) you get a phone call for an interview, or 2) the season is over and we lose out on the chance to interview you.

Secondly, the dashboard re-sync's for about two minutes at the top of every even hour. Your status will disappear, and then return.

Hope that this helps...

+1

It definitely reduces needless anxiety.

For the rest of you all with this anxiety, there was at least one applicant (now an M1) who did not get an interview until February and was accepted off the top third of the waitlist 3 months later, so don't lose hope!

I can second IonClaws's comment.

I submitted my secondary late August, heard nothing until REL called me to invite me to interview in mid-February. Got placed in top third. Got accepted beginning of May.

And I love it here.

I was actually referring to another current M1, so that makes 2! Even better odds! Don't lose hope, everyone.👍

So what does this AORTA mean? Bad news? 🙁. It's ok, I do have other interview invites so it's not the end of the world. Disappointing though, have family down there and love Orlando.

EDIT: Oh, I'm being dumb. I went back and re-read "AORTA- Eligible for interview." So, is this the same status that you guys are getting (EFI)?

Yep! You're EFI; now comes the wait to see if you get an II!

MCAT retaker here. Just submitted my secondary. 3.82cGPA/3.92sGPA/30(9/12/9)MCAT. ECs include 7 years clinical experience as a volunteer firefighter-EMT and ED tech. 1.5 years of clinical reasearch at the hospital I work at, wife and two kids, FL resident for 22 years.

A little late on the scene but hoping for some love.

Just checked my status and I'm EFI! Fingers crossed for an II!! :luck:

Anybody know if UCF works with Arnold Palmer Hospital? it just popped up in my book i was reading and its probably the nicest looking hospital i have ever seen lol.

They probably already do as they are the only med school within 2 hours but for real, nemours children's hospital across the street from ucf makes arnold palmer look like a dump

Yes, this is a primary partner: Arnold Palmer Peds, Winnie Palmer Women & Babies, MD Anderson Cancer, and the two big Florida Hospital and Orlando Regional Hospitals all in the downtown Orlando "campus."

EFI. in state.. so excited! hoping for that phone call! 🙂

Any oos interviews so far? If so wanna share stats and EC?

Decided to add UCF since I'm IS. Guess we'll see how this goes!

If offered an interview invite, how long before receiving e-mail confirmation and a status change? I received a phone call several days ago but have not received an e-mail nor status change.

I would call, I had to call to get my confirmation email and status change.

I remember REL saying on the interview date that he would start making phone calls to those who are waitlisted starting late September. Anyone know what the exact date is?

Are you sure it was late September? No medical schools are allowed to release acceptances before October 15th per AAMC "traffic rules" so they probably wouldn't release waitlist notices until that date either, at least that's how it was last season.

I feel like I'm late to the party, but I have a question about the secondary. It was sort of addressed earlier in the thread, but I'd just like some clarification.

In the Background Information section, right below where it says "PLEASE DO NOT include information already addressed in your AMCAS application." a question asks if we've ever received an institutional action and to describe the outcome. I discussed this on my primary application, so should I:
(a) check "No",
(b) check "Yes" and refer to the primary application, or
(c) just copy/paste the explanation from the primary despite the instructions at the top of the page?

Option A seems like a bad idea since I did, in fact, receive an institutional action. Option B seems like it would be kind of annoying from the perspective of the Adcom to have to flip through the primary to find the explanation. Option C ignores the instructions at the top and just reiterates what was on the primary app.

We were told AFTER October 15th 🙂 but maybe schools are allowed to make waitlist calls just not acceptance calls prior to the 15th? Were you there during the first interview day because I know the ADCOM isn't even meeting until Oct 1st for the second interview day.

Per AAMC's Traffic Rules for Admissions Officers:
3. Each school notify all applicants - other than Combined College/M.D., Early Decision Program (EDP), and deferred matriculation applicants - of acceptance to medical school only after October 15 of each admission cycle. It may be appropriate to communicate notifications of decisions other than acceptance to medical school to applicants prior to October 15.

This is correct. I think I recall making the "September statement" during the first interview date. This was quickly challenged that AFTER October 15 is the acceptable timeframe --- they caught me at a time when my "rememberer" wasnt fully connected and I quickly recanted. Except for special programs admissions decisions MUST be communicated AFTER October 15.

Interview Invite!!!! First of the season! I honestly wasn't expecting any interviews and was thrilled to get the call yesterday. Scheduled for october 11th. UCF is my number 1 choice because it is where my sister goes as an M1 and I loved the school when I visited for her white coat ceremony.
