2013-2014 University of Central Florida Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So how did you like it down here in Lake Nona? 🙂

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!! The vision of this school is so motivating and I would love to be a part of it!

Such an amazing interview day. Very well organized and REL was very transparent with the admissions process. We even got to see part of a surgery and practice on the Da Vinci simulators! Great food too 🙂

So excited for UCF! Anyone else interviewing this Friday? 🙂

Anyone know how strict UCF is about their LOR requirements?

Looks like a rather action packed interview day. 8-4 is pretty long compared to other places I've been. Good thing interviews are in the morning.

Edit. Looks like the hospital is right by mco approach. Good planespotting?

Also. Rel since you seem pretty active on here, have you identified who we are in person?

I have been lurking on SDN for over a year now without having joined but it has been an invaluable source of information for me in this journey.

I thought I'd post here as a little bit of a success story and to demonstrate how I feel about UCF College of Medicine both in general and with respect to their admissions department.

3.5 years ago I was working as a commercial jet pilot, flying small corporate jets. I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in medicine (a career that had always fascinated me) and returned to school in the fall of 2010. Living in Orlando, I watched UCF COM being built and immediately set out to attend this school. Mr Larkin (REL) was my first point of contact at UCF COM and he spent many hours with me discussing what I'd need to do and how best to go about it all; something that to this day, I'm immensely grateful for.

Over the years, I remained in contact with Mr Larkin and sought his guidance and advice on remaining competitive. I toured the school with Mr Larkin earlier this year and I was absolutely blown away by the organization, technology, staff and atmosphere. I had always planned on attending UCF COM and this left no doubt in my mind that no other school would do. With this in mind, I decided that EDP was the way forward for me. I was well aware of the risks and believe me, it definitely made me nervous, but I was 100% sure that there was nowhere else in the country I'd rather attend.

My 30th birthday rolled around on August 14th 2013 which was made all the more sweet by an interview invite from Mr Larkin to the school. That definitely made it one of the best days of my life and without a doubt, the best 30th birthday present I could have wished for!

I interviewed on the 6th of September and I'm elated to report that I got an acceptance call on the 25th!! (Early Decision)

For those of you who are also applying here, I can tell you that you won't find a better admissions staff anywhere and the vision and environment is in a class of its own.

I apologize for the somewhat long post but I wanted to both express my gratitude to UCF COM and at the same time share a success story that I'm sure many of you (hopefully all) will be a part of as well.

No need to apologize, that was simply an incredible story! Definitely a testament to how the legendary REL got his status and really is the best admissions director I've ever met. It's also a testament to how great our school will really be in the future. 😍

losing hope with this school... 🙁

Why?! I feel like they have not sent out the bulk of their interviews yet. Its just the tip of the ice burg!

At least that is what I keep telling my self!! 😀

It's a loooonnnggg season for all of us. We interview from Sep - early March. The early flood of applications hit the admissions offices but we can only review/interview so many each week. If your are EFI, you are EFI until you are either notified for an interview or the last interviews are offered (probably mid-Feb). So batten down the hatches, put a log on the fire, maybe send a significant file addition email, get a warm beverage, and cozy up to a good book....or whatever else may be cozy nearby... and enjoy.

Just checked today and I am EFI. I hope I get the phone call, UCF is one of my tops! 😀

File complete for a month..... has that been the usual wait time before EFI??
Thanks!

II yesterday!!! 10/25 Interview date :luck:🙂👍😍

One week until my interview here! So pumped!!! 🙂🙂🙂

I've missed two phone calls from unknown numbers in Florida within the last 10 days. Both times my heart raced as I looked up the number to see if it was affiliated with UCF, and both times I found out that it wasn't.

I have never previously gotten any calls from Florida from unknown numbers. I'm not sure which of the following will happen first - an interview invite or my heart giving out due to all these calls from random people in Florida.

This has happened to me a few times as well ha ha. Oh application cycle neuroticism...

Not going to lie, that was the best interview day I've had to date. It was my sixth interview and i highly doubt any others will surpass it. Definitely in the top half of places I've been. I could go there and be happy.

Edit. They don't necessarily welcome thank you notes so I'll post it here: Thank you REL- you, your staff and the med students made the interview day amazing. I appreciate your candor, it's uniquely refreshing amongst the admissions officers I've encountered thus far.

Goood! I hope you are accepted!! I hope I get the chance to interview here!

Completed 7/3, I believe.... Sorry for the double response. My computer crashed.

Welp. Finally complete. We'll see how long this takes. Hmph.

Is there any cause for concern if you've been on "Hold for Information" status for over a week? The popup windows says 2-3 business days, but I assume they're elbow deep in applications and LORs at this point, so I can see it taking a bit longer.

Should I bother calling to see if everything is okay with my app, or just sit tight?

I would sit tight. It took me a while.

👍 Awesome. Thanks for info. You're the best!

Hey all,

Sorry, really late to the UCF sdn party (btw I love all your enthusiasm and informative posts).

So after not checking my status for quite some time I see that it is: AORTA - ELIGIBLE FOR INTERVIEW SELECTION...is this what everyone is calling "EFI"? So there is some chance I could receive a call extending an interview invite?

I don't mean to bother anyone with the question, just a bit confused because I thought AORTA was a status you get prior to EFI 😕

Thanks in advance!

Did you get the long email from REL? It is very clear with the details, so it might help you to read it thoroughly....anyways AORTA is the committee that reviews your application and decides whether you are EFI (eligible for interview selection). Your status means they have finished their review and made their decision. This means you are ELIGIBLE - Your application will be reviewed in the upcoming interview selection meetings, you may receive an interview invite sometime between now and march, you may not. You passed the first hurdle - Congrats 🙂

Interview invite this morning as well! 3.4 UG/3.8 SMP/35 MCAT OOS

So happy!! Mr. Larkin sounded amused at my barely concealed excitement haha

Congrats! I hope I hear something soon, fingers crossed!

We must live on the same street then 😉......you think ucf is receptive to, "I'm in the area...every day. If someone bails on an interview, I can be in a suit in the lobby in 30minutes" emails? 😉

OOS complete 9/27 and EFI this week! Love this school, hoping for a call!

OOS completed 9/23, got EFI today! Hoping for a call as well! GL!
