2013-2014 University of Central Florida Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I interviewed on Friday and it was an amazing experience.

The interviewers were friendly and really tried to get to know me as a person. Mr. Larkin led the interview session and was very frank and told us all the details about the school including Step averages. He was a very nice guy and I felt like I could ask anything.

We were give an update about the school. Then we interviewed. Then We were shuttled to a hospital and got to play with state of the art surgical machines called Da Vinci machines and then had lunch and toured the gorgeous campus. The anatomy labs are super nice and up to date. At the end we heard Dean German talk which was super inspirational.

I loved the experience and the transparency of the school. Mr. Larkin is THE man.

I love UCF and it would be a honor to attend.

For those of you who have interviewed and have been reviewed by the Admissions Committee, I just wanted to reinforce that we will be complying with the AAMC Traffic Rules. As such we will be contacting you AFTER October 15 per the rules. So calls will be made on October 16. Good Luck!!.

Still patiently waiting to be asked to an interview! 😀

Just got EFI!

So stoked. Hopefully I have a quick turnaround.

Today marks a great day! it has been a long one! I had to take mcat a couple times to finally get my score! Received by secondary today! I am so excited and hope to one day be a UCF knight with an MD after my name! Good luck on getting those phone calls tomorrow! will be up all night writing these essays!

Hey Rel,

I'm a UCF undergrad and did Dr. Lopez packet to you guys look at our Autobiography he has on file?

Hey I forgot the turnaround time for ucf...was it 3 weeks? I want to say so. Someone confirm this for me?

I spoke with Mr. Larkin earlier today! ACCEPTED! And trust me, my whole class knew about it. I may or may not have made a public announcement hahahah. So excited!

M1 checking in here to say congrats to those accepted today! :highfive:

For those still waiting, just be patient. I was one of the very last to be invited for an interview at UCF and interviewed on the last day and was ultimately accepted. And there were two other kids from the last interview day that are now M1's with me.

If anyone has any question, send me a PM so I get an email notifying me cause I haven't been checking the boards lately.

+1 😍

I've kinda given up on any enthusiasm after about little over a month after becoming EFI 🙁

+1. Rapidly losing hope, been EFI for what feels like forever. Still really hoping for a chance to visit/interview here as I love everything I've read and heard about the school.

Yea I have had EFI for two months now! :/

EFI gave me hope. It's dwindling in my second month of waiting. It's been a roller coaster.
EFI for a little less than 2 months. It's only October, though. There's still plenty of time, and plenty of hope! Keep ya chin up 🙂

I mean, I was EFI for at least a month and a half before getting the call. I wouldn't freak out about it, guys.

How long did the Hold For Information status stay up for you guys? I'm getting worried. I'm on day 4. I realize Monday was a holiday, and Tuesday was a busy day. It makes me worry I didn't even make the first cut.

Anybody go back to the supplemental application page and see that their submission date/ complete package date has changed? I submitted everything on 8/10, marked as complete on 8/13, and EFI 8/27; however, I just went back and my submission/complete date are now both 10/1. Is this normal, guys? Tell me I'm not the only one!

I've been EFI since 8/16 (OOS, <30, 3.6-3.7), trying to stay optimistic 😛 I would be so thrilled to get an II here, I have heard entirely positive things from everyone about this school and the program is just fantastic!

Guys, there are people in here who were on EFI for 6 months. Then they waited 2.5 months on the waitlist before getting accepted in May. I didn't even check EFI etc when I was applying (too busy with other apps lol). Others were interviewed sooner, but waitlisted for many months. Continue your community service, read good books and play an instrument at the nursing home. Eventually med schools will see your zeal.

This.

I was EFI for almost 6 months and on the wait list for 2 months and here I am at UCF. Applying to medical school is just a waiting game.

Does UCF only send invites 3 weeks in advance? I sent an in the area email about a month ago. Seeing that I had to fly to Florida I've held off buying a plane ticket to see if UCF will extend my trip for me 🙂. The three weeks-away mark is next Friday. I don't know if I should buy a ticket before It costs me double the normal price anyways or hold out.

Thoughts?

Can't hurt to call on Monday just to check in and see what your status is!

I finally got the EFI status.

I know a lot of people are also waiting for the call about an interview. But, this is a pretty big deal for me. I started out at UCF in 1998, was totally unprepared to be in college and it did not turn out well (<1.0 sGPA when I left if that tells you anything). When I left three years later, I was barely considered a sophomore. Changing that trajectory was difficult and took years of effort.

I feel privileged to even be considered eligible for an interview, especially after several other schools (in-state and out) wouldn't and some screened me pre-secondary. Even if I don't get the call for an interview, I'm happy to just make it this far, especially after seeing so many highly qualified applicants posting here.

I wish everyone waiting for an interview or a decision the best.

This is awesome. Good for you! Best of luck to ya 🙂

best of luck! I've been on the academic redemption journey as well! Hope I can get EFI as well, its been a long journey to get this far but I would not change it for anything. Makes me want it that much more!

Hey guys,

My current status has been "FILE COMPLETE - READY FOR REVIEW" since 9/24/2013. It says "This review may take up to 15 business days," but its almost been a month now. Is this normal or is happening to anyone else?

Thanks!

I talked to them last week when I was worried that I hadn't made the first cut. They said they've been pretty busy and are a bit behind schedule. I wouldn't worry TOO much. You can always call or email if you're dying to know.

Just got the call from Dr. Larkin! :biglove:
