2013-2014 University of Central Florida Application Thread

Hey everyone,

Congrats to all of those who have interviewed/been accepted! That is exciting. Anyways, I was just wondering what the lowest acceptable MCAT is for an interview/acceptance here. I have a pretty low MCAT score, but the rest of my app is very solid (lots of EC'S, good GPA, etc.). My status says EFI, but I don't know if that means I have a chance or just means I met the cutoff. Thanks everyone! And good luck to all!

I got the call last week from Mr.Larkin for a II and then an email confirming the date---but my status online still appears as EFI and has not changed to interview status, does anyone who had an interview know if this is normal? thank you! 🙂

You're fine. Takes a while. Enjoy your interview!

What are the two interviews like? Blind? Open file?

Iirc they're stats blind open. I could be misremembering though. I think they were highly regulated too, with several standardized questions and only a few that the interviewers could choose from on their own. But they're really low stress so just be yourself and honest.

EFI means you've hit the cut off (3.0 GPA/ 24 MCAT). Applicants who get an II are all selected from the EFI pool; so you're not guaranteed an interview, but there's hope! You're in the right place 🙂. Good luck!

I think 3.0/24 MCAT gets you a secondary. EFI is the same as a "small pool" at other schools. So it means you have a chance!! Only about ~1200 applicants get EFI. Tons more meet the cutoff.

Got the call from REL last Wednesday! First II of the season and so excited to visit UCF!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 (OOS)

Hey rel, can you tell me if they're going to put on another collaborative session between the colleges of engineering and medicine next year? I saw the news release from a couple weeks ago and thought it might be fertile ground for my fire project. Did any current students take advantage?

Ooooo that sounds interesting!! I would
like to know as well 🙂

EFI today. Now the real waiting game begins.

Wait-listed... Surprised and pretty upset, meh. Moving forward...

What was your place on the w/l? If its in the top 1/2 you have a good chance to get in
Not only that, but your position on the waitlist has a good chance of going up as later interviewees tend to go to the bottom and people from the top will tend to withdraw.

(Not to say that having a late interview dooms you to the bottom, it's just that statistically, later interviewees are on average rated lower by the adcom.)

I was placed on the top half of the top one third of the waitlist and am head over heels ecstatic! Although I haven't formally received an acceptance, I know there are very good odds I will end up at my number one choice school 🙂

UCF is truly a dream.

I was re-reading the UCF COM website yesterday, and I got so excited that I decided to swing by Lake Nona today... just because. It's just as beautiful as I remembered it from before, and I'm very eager to (hopefully) get an II from here. Definitely my top choice school.

A bit of both ! It means you hit the cut off in terms of grades , MCAT and qualities and skills they believe you would add to their class- which means you have a chance. I remember thinking the exact same thing when I got the EFI status ( as I was in a similar situation) . From what I can remember from the interview the range of accepted applicants is 27-37 or so but don't quote me on that , it should be online on their view book - which is a great resource ! Good luck - hoping you get the call !

Edit : sorry, to clarify the skills and qualities and "perceived fit" is what I believe is looked Into once in the EFI status

Sorry this might be a dumb question but what does iirc mean?? I have my interview in a few weeks (my first interview) and am really excited/nervous! Wondering if anyone has some advice for me for preparation? Thanks so much :happy:
If I recall correctly

Anyone else on SDN interviewing on Friday (11/8)? I'm beyond excited! I am a Florida (Orlando) resident but went North for my undergraduate education. Can't wait to fly to MCO tomorrow and get this adventure started. I'm reading so many great things about interview day.

I'm in the same boat!
Interviewing 11/8.

Awesome. Looking forward to meeting the other applicants (potential classmates!). Best of luck to you.

Question for everyone: what do you think about bringing along some materials (e.g., copy of AMCAS, a CV, publications, paper for taking notes, etc.) to the interview? Did anyone bring materials? Would it become annoying to carry around all day?

I bring a copy of my AMCAS and CV to all my interviews in a leather folio. It's useful insofar as you can review your application before going into the interview, but I wouldn't really start handing out copies to your interviewer. As for notes, I write all over the itinerary that the school provides at the start of the day, but I've seen many people bring paper to write on. Up to you really.

Agreed. Those items are only useful for your own good to look over. Handing out copies of CV and publications just seems a lil tacky IMO. Use your words to explain what you've done. I doubt interviewers want to read things during the interview.

Agree - med schools already have them so we dont want them again, good for your review if needed.

ALSO: NEVER give your complete copy of AMCAS to a school!!! If you do, DO NOT give them them final pages that list where you applied. Med programs do not NEED this info and may use them to make bad choices later. Never tell med schools where you have applied.

So excited about UCF!! I'm thinking about touring Lake Nona this weekend after the football game 🙂

Lol my interviewer at ucf asked me where I applied but said you might be mad 🙂

During my interview at another FL school, the interviewer asked me what my first choice was, and I said the name of another school. I still got in so I guess it's no biggie in some cases

Anyone know if they're receptive to updates and if so where to direct them to?

Yes, both pre and post interview. The general admissions email listed on the website should be fine. Mr. Larkin can correct me if I'm wrong.
