2013-2014 University of Chicago (Pritzker) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Application held for later review...was really hoping for Pritzker

Complete at the start of this week, GPA 3.95+, MCAT 40+

When's usually a good time to send an update? I'm on a gap year.

I would wait a month or so unless you have substantive updates to give now. That's not based on anything and is totally arbitrary, though, so you should do what seems best to you.

@NickNaylor

I have my interview with UChicago in a week. Can you give tips and tricks as to what to expect and how to best prepare?

Also has anyone heard back from student hosting?

Thanks!

II today! yay! Complete 8/12, 39, 3.9, from CA

II today, also from CA! Very excited! Secondary complete: 14 August 2013

Good luck!

II today! Completed 07/28. So excited!!!!!

How do you know the date you were complete on? Did you guys receive emails? I have complete status on the secondary website but didn't get an email.

I am making the assumption that the application is complete right when I submit it, since my secondary page told me I was complete, if I recall correctly.

I mentioned this earlier in the thread around when the first II went out. I'd link it for you but I'm on my phone, so try and find that. I'd be happy to answer any specific questions you might have though.

The first years got the email about hosting late last week so they are working on it. I know some people got assignments already but I think they are still working on finding hosts for a lot of people. I wouldn't worry unless you interview is next week or something.

For the question on diversity/pitzker mission....i dont quite understand if you should talk about your diversity in context of advancing the mission? like based on your interests in medicine ?

Yup, exactly. At least that's the approach that I would take, though there really isn't a "right" answer as long as your essay is on topic.

Would it be ok to take in the way of how your experiences have taught you about being a leader/ innovator and the perspectives youd bring on that? Not sure if that would be too generic but I felt that would be more applicable to addressing how you would impact classmates? Its a totally different interpretation to the question.

I'm struggling with the same thing! I interpreted it like you did but I'm worried I don't talk enough about my diversity I focus more on the mission statement

I've been complete for a while now (complete 7/26), with no change in status. Is anyone else in the same boat? It seems like most people have heard back already either with a hold/II/rejection... I guess no news is good news.

I'm in same boat. Completed 7/29 and no news yet. Anyone know to where I should send updates? Do they prefer updates via email or regular mail? I tried looking on the website but can't seem to find it. Thanks!!

Unless you have something huge to share I wouldn't send in any updates before getting a preliminary decision. You can just email the general admissions email address though.

My final letter just came into AMCAS last week. I've been marked complete at all my schools a few days ago, but not at Chicago. How long should I wait before I follow up with them?

I think someone mentioned earlier in this thread, that Chicago manually updates your status on their website. For me it, it took a little longer for Chicago to update my rec letters when compared to other schools.

+1 Chicago's taking extra long to mark me as complete. I'm complete at basically every other school by now.

I would suggest calling the office or emailing Dr. Charles Todd to check in on your status. It shouldn't take more than a week assuming everything else is in.

First rejection. Doesn't help that my grandpa died this week either 🙁

I'm so sorry for your loss, my thoughts are with you. I hope you get a chance to take a little time for yourself in the coming weeks 😳

II yesterday! Added them late after I got a few encouraging invites, but I'm in a bit of shock. Was complete 8/14

I'm really sorry to hear about that. My condolences. I'll say a prayer for you and your family.

Best of luck with the rest of your app cycle.

): Still, at this rate, I do think every top 10-20 school will have at least one of SDN's khaleesis (khaleesees? What's the plural of khaleesi??) at their interviews 😀

HAH maybe I should start a Khaleesi thread so we can track that data. Thanks for the kind words all. Ok now officially unsubscribing, see many of you elsewhere = )

Rejected today after submitting less than a week ago lol. ~73 LizzyM score, few years full-time research. That was ruthlessly efficient.

... I was complete around 7/24, and I still haven't heard anything from them...

II this morning!

My interview is this week! I have one question for current students -- I am driving down to UChicago that morning, where is the best place to park?

feel similarly-- they didn't even wait for my LORs to come in! 3.8/38 a little surprised.

They've rejected some people on this thread with LizzyM's of 80...UChicago could fill their entire class up with people over a 75 LizzyM...I think that they are looking more for pieces of a puzzle to fit a class of 88.

It seems that they want a little bit of everything in their classes and they are searching for those specific puzzle pieces. Supposedly the secondary essays are very important for getting IIs and proving your fit with the school.

Just my $0.02

Meh guys, no used reflecting on it once you're rejected. Who knows what they're looking for? My personal opinion based on looking through lots of mdapps while applying last year, I think the adcom here is a ***** for EC's more than most schools.
