2013-2014 University of Chicago (Pritzker) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Are we separately notified once we're complete? Or are we just "considered" complete once all of our app materials are in?
You don't get an email notification, but your status on the secondary application site changes.

Thanks! I wasn't sure because I had all my materials marked as received but it only said Secondary Complete instead of App Complete.

I just checked and I was moved to complete this afternoon. Aaaand the nerves have begun to set in 😱

Yes, for me it took about 1 days for the payment information to be updated and the secondary to be declared complete. I did worry about that, too 🙂

hey guys,
I received a secondary (since they send it out to everyone). But my stats aren't that impressive 31 on the mcat (12/8/11) and a 4.0 GPA. That 8 on VR is mainly is because English isn;t my first language. Ive been exposed to English for a little over 5 years. But that said I have great LOR, PS, and ECs. Do I have a chance here looking at my stats? Should I even fill out the secondary?

If you have the money it never hurts to apply.

I get my secondary fee waived since I received FAP from AMCAS so Ill definitely be applying but not getting my hopes up. This is a HUGEE reach for me.

Just as Dirty630 said, apply away if you have money. But, from what I've observed, it takes really extraordinary ECs and/or life story to "offset" lower GPA or MCAT. And, this may not apply to you, so no offense to you personally, but I've also observed that many premeds are not nearly as unique and their achievement are not as extraordinary as they think. I don't know what your ECs and personal story are, I'm just saying it's worth taking an honest look at yourself and your achievements.

If you want to go to a top school and you think there may be room for improvement, I suggest retaking MCAT (and by "retaking MCAT" I mean preparing like crazy for your retake). Verbal can also be improved through good practice, I'm telling you this as someone who's not a native English speaker and who got a verbal score of 12 on her MCAT retake (13/12/13).
And if you don't think you can improve on MCAT of 31 and apply to many top schools... well, it's your money.

Yeah I'm just going to apply this cycle, and if I don't get into a good enough school I will retake the exam. I'm not running out of time (I'm 19, senior standing at UIC). Thanks for your comments, Ive been thinking about all that myself.

and great numbers by the way, something I would aim for if i retake the MCAT.

At 19, you have all the time in the world 🙂
If I were you, I would apply after getting a better MCAT score. Seriously, what's the rush? This process is so time and money consuming, it's better to go into it when you know you have the best stats etc. you can have.
It's your decision of course. Good luck in any case :luck:

II for the regular MD program today; my very first reply of any kind! Awesome pre-dinner surprise email. I thought everyone was closed for the day already!

Congrats! Obligatory question, when was your app complete?

I couldn't find an email from Pritzker saying when they considered me complete, but I submitted the secondary before I was verified and was verified on the 23rd.
They don't actually send you an email when you're complete, only your status changes on the secondary application site.
U Chicago seems to be very quick at processing applications - something like they mark your application complete within a day of receiving all of the required materials (secondary, fee, MCAT, letters, verified AMCAS). They - and U Pittsburgh - are so well organized, I wonder why all the other schools can't learn from them 😛

Rejected today. Complete 7/11.

3.89/36

This is my first rejection for the cycle so it kind of stings. I guess I need to get use to it. 15/16 applications to go. GL all.

Ouch. And with a profile like yours 🙁
Good luck with your other applications, you should be able to get in somewhere nice!

Sorry to hear that, man. I find your app really intriguing. Best of luck this cycle!

Rejected. Complete about 2-3 weeks ago. 3.87/35 MCAT. I guess they don't want double alumni 🙁

Aw man, really sorry to hear that. Best of luck to you I am sure there is success in your future!

Quick question: My secondary is complete but they haven't marked my LORs as received. My AMCAS application hasn't been verified yet, but I sent in my LORs to UChicago a long time ago. Will they only mark everything after my application has been verified?

Here is their tweet "we'll send letters we've already received to med schools once your app is verified. The rest will be sent as they arrive." So yes the letters will be sent once your primary is verified.

My first rejection of the cycle... Its okay though; I got an interview at U Rochester today, so thats helps with the sting!

Good luck to everyone, I wish you all the best! Pritzker seems like a great school!

Best,
C

Awh I'm sorry to hear that. But congrats on the interview at U Rochester!
What are your numbers? If you don't mind

Nope, I don't mind. 33 MCAT/3.65 GPA, (I am non-trad, been working in oncology research for the past 4 years).

I think Pritzker would have been an awesome fit for me due to their research opportunities, but my stats are clearly lower than their average, so I understand. I'll keep my fingers crossed for all of you out there still hoping for a good word from U Chicago! 🙂

Best,
C

Bummer, put on hold. >3.9, 36 MCAT

There's still a chance! NN said that 15-20% of the interviewed people come from the "on hold" pile.

Just curious when were you complete? I just got marked complete in the last day or two and was wondering if they still have the ultrafast turnaround time.

Interview Invite this morning!
Complete 7/23 - 3.9/38
I took about 3 weeks to submit the secondary, so don't stress too much about the 2 week rule.

Just got an interview!!! So excited 😍

Regular MD invite!
Secondary received 7/1, complete 7/24 (yeah, I sat on it for more than 3 weeks...)

Oh awesome, thanks for that! I was complete on the 19th.

My first rejection as well... Not particularly surprised considering what kind of people were rejected before me, but it still hurts. Oh well.

Congrats to people who got IIs - you must be totally awesome 🙂 - and good luck to all of you!

Are you all getting emails that tell you you have a status update, or are you just checking your app status?

Put on hold today :/

But keeping positive, at least I wasn't rejected outright I guess. Really hoping for an II eventually since Pritzker is my top choice!!!

For the II, they sent me an email inviting me and telling me to schedule it.

What are people doing to prepare for interviews???? This is going to be my first one and, with it being my top school, I would really like to avoid my first one being a learning experience

Weird, I didn't get an email about my status changing to complete or even to hold. Maybe they just email for II's?

Hmm. Must be. IIRC I didn't get a complete email either, so it must be just for IIs.

IIs and rejections are by email, and they tell what kind of decision they made in the email. Other status changes, like complete etc., are on the application site, no email.
Basically, if they have any substantial piece of information for you, they will email. Otherwise, just relax 🙂

Complete: 7/20/2013
Interview Invite: 8/2/2013

Question: do you know if Pritzker will allow you to wait until new interview dates are available to schedule if you already have an invite? None of the current dates work terribly well with my schedule, but it appears that future ones may.

Yes, there will be more dates released as closer ones fill. That said, I would recommend getting in contact with the admissions office and letting them know that's what you're going to do.
