When someone is accepted off the wait list will the school inform them of any financial aid at the same time? How long do they have to accept the offer?
This is tough, particularly because UF only hands outs merit based aid. At least that has been the going trend in past years. If you come off the wait list I don't think they inform you immediately of financial aid available, but this is my guess based on the trend seen on SDN in the past years. This is a good question and something that I have been pondering myself. Maybe the admissions office would be willing to share this information with you.

Correct me if I'm wrong; I believe it's 2 weeks, as rapid wait list activity seems to occur every two weeks starting on May 15th or May 16th.

Me either...Maybe they didn't send out acceptances today either? So strange

Maybe if we all hold our collective breath the waitlist will start moving?

"We have a full class at this time". Dislike.

That's insane. I thought there should be at least some wait list movement...

I'm sure there will be, it sounded like they issued the first round and that they're now "full" until people turn down offers within the two week grace period.

I second this. It's crazy to think that the class is completely full already.

Er so apparently no wait list offers have been made yet because nobody has withdrawn acceptances... This has never happened at UF med according to them

So did you talk to the admissions office directly or is this speculation because I personally know two people who have given up spots already this cycle. Maybe they're waiting to see if their waitlisted applicants got in somewhere else before they start pulling them off....Wishful thinking anyway

Hm strange, yes this is what the admissions office said directly. :\

maybe they overfill the class in anticipation of a certain number of people dropping?

I'm pretty sure that schools always over accept in anticipation of people withdrawing acceptances? I'm personally hoping that people just never withdrew all their acceptances by May 15th and AMCAS will sort them out within a week lol

oh man….. i hope to see at least some kind of movement. This is really strange even for a school that over accepts

Definitely strange.

I thought Dr. Lynch said that they weren't over accepting this year? If I remember correctly they were only accepting enough people per interview group to fill the class, and then pulling from the waitlist when people took other offers.

I've heard that they do not over accept but I'm not sure. I can tell you that I attended second look and every person I talked to said they were definitely attending UF; however, not everyone attends second look, and some people that said that could get off a wait list somewhere else and change their minds later. Based on talking to other people at another second look, it seems that this class is more firmly seated than some others, but still, there must eventually be SOME wait list movement. Again, this is all anecdotal.

They may not over accept, but they must also account for students that have to repeat, people who took a year off and people from their BS/MD program. I do remember hearing them say how some years they have very little wait list movement and others that they have a lot. This may be one of those "unlucky years" for us wait listers, but I hope there is significant amount of movement later on.

Hi Everyone,
This is Leila from UFCOM and my first time posting to the site so be nice!

I just wanted to clear up some of the confusion about our waitlist. This year is very different from years past in that I have not called anyone from the waitlist yet. As of today, our class is still full at 135 accepted students. I will begin calling students on the waitlist as soon as I have space in the class and that can happen any time from today until our class matriculates on July 30.

Financial aid offers are predominantly need based for UFCOM and have been that way until a few years ago when we were able to secure a limited amout of merit based scholarship support. If any aid is available at the time an offer is made, the student will be informed by our financial aid administrator, Ms. Eileen Parris and not over the phone by me.

Just so you are clear: we have already accounted for the JHMP program and any students who deferred from the previous year; any student(s) that may repeat do not count against the incoming class as they have already matriculated to the school the previous cycle.

Plesae do not hesitate to call us at the office of admissions with any questions you may have.

Hi Leila,

Thanks so much for posting this information for us!! Just wondering, are you at 135 current acceptances (that's the number of expected students for the class, correct?) or do you actually have more than 135 acceptances?

Hi,
It was my pleasure 🙂
We only have 135 students in the class at this time; this number includes all accepted students, JHMP, and deferred students.

Thank you for clearing that up Ms. Amiri

Thank you for sharing this information.

Just to clarify: of all the students initially accepted, none have turned down their offers?

Leila can give you a confirmed answer, but there are people who have turned down acceptances, there just wasn't enough that turned down UF for the wait list to start moving.

As one who would LOVE to get off the waitlist at UF, I just want to thank Mrs. Amiri for apprising us of the current situation. It was very kind of you to do so with your first post ever! I hope to hear from you soon, and if not goodluck to the class of 2018 it was pleasure to interview at UF!

Yes, definitely much thanks to Mrs. Amiri for clearing it all up! Best of luck to all of you waiting to get off the wait list, hope you get a call!

It's great to see Leila here! She'll really help dispel a lot of incorrect assumptions. Just some words of encouragement from a previous year waitlistee: just because seemingly no one jumped off the boat by the May 15th deadline doesn't mean it won't happen later. Perhaps someone that confirmed at UF by May 15 got accepted off a wait list at his or her dream school (which isn't UF) on May 16th. He or she may take two weeks to finally decide and give up his or her spot at UF. This begins wait list movement, and I can't imagine that this won't happen to anyone.

A lot of other schools have a bunch of wait list movement right after May 15 because some people have declined acceptances at those schools prior to May 15 and the schools have collected those open spots up until then. We didn't see this at UF this year, but remind yourself that May 15 is the deadline to hold ONE acceptance, not necessarily THE acceptance a student will ultimately take.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know when classes will begin? I know orientation is from July 30th to August 4th, but classes? Thanks in advance 🙂

I'm pretty sure they begin on Monday, the 4th.

Thanks tygerguy. That's what I originally thought, until I noticed that orientation ends on Tuesday August 5, 2014. I guess orientation and the first day of classes overlap.

Well, the August 5th event is in the evening, so it seems likely that it would be combined with classes. On that note, it is very interesting to see what our actual class schedule will look like 🙂

Has anyone heard anything from Leila or any updates? It's hard to believe that there hasn't been any WL movement

I think that most people have given up at this point.. Haven't heard of a single acceptance off the waitlist.

I am hoping that movement will happen but if there hasn't been any and school starts in a few weeks (beginning of July) then I highly doubt there will be significant enough movement in the wait list to be meaningful enough for most of us. I mean, even if 3 give up their seats last minute, I doubt they'll have to go far enough in the wait list to replace them 🙁

School doesn't start until July 30. There's a little more time.

I think school starts early August and they accept off WL until July 30th. Thought I read that somewhere but maybe I'm just crazy.

Has there been any wait list movement to anyone's knowledge? I haven't seen any posts, and I find it hard to believe that no one has come off the wait list, though I guess that's possible.

Withdrew from the wait list today. Signed a lease for an apartment at another school so I've officially given up.
