2013-2014 University of Illinois Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So I checked my status webpage today and yesterday it said application in progress and today it said interview letter/date/confirmation and a big calendar grid of available dates up on the screen.

I still havent gotten an email inviting me to an interview, but can I assume that this means I am about to get an II?

Did it say "applicant in progress" or "application in progress"?

And I believe your assumption is correct. Congratulations sir!!!

It said "application in progress" or 'application being reviewed", I can't remember which one but it was something along those lines!

Hi - does anyone know if University of Illinois OOS sticker price is what students actually pay? Are they good at providing financial aid? Last year their OOS tuition was $74,000/year :0

Sure, they provide financial aid, in the form of government loans.

Yes, of course 🙂 But do they also provide need-based and merit aid (ie - not loans) and at what kind of frequency? $300K is well over the average med-student debt.

Any current U of Illinois students out there who can answer this one?

I want to apply, but it would be nice to know what to expect in the financial aid arena. Thanks!

did you guys get an email when you were given the interview invite?

I have not received an email, but when I logged on today, I saw that the portal is showing me to "schedule and interview" but I cannot select any of the dates

when were you guys who received II today completed?

Does UIC send out complete emails when you are done with the secondary or just check off all the boxes when you are completed?

I never got a complete email but all my letters were listed as received the day i submitted my secondary

I was complete 8/15 and I didn't get an email, I just checked my status and everything was marked as received. It says in the initial email to continue to check the status page so that is what I did.

Where did you see that it was marked as "In progress" or something? All mine says is "your application has been successfully submitted."

When you log onto the status site, there should be a big grid with all of your info and if you are complete there will be a 'Next' button on the bottom of the page. You click that and it should say "applicant in progress" or "application being processed" or whatever yours says.

Also, I called UIC this morning and having that invitation information on your status page DOES mean that you got an II!!

So are we supposed to call to pick a date or do we wait for an email?

I would really like to see a change in my application status. My application was complete 7/12, and I have been stuck with a perpetual "Applicant in Progress" ever since.

Is anyone else in a similar boat?

I think someone in last year's thread was either Applicant in Progress or Process for like 5 months before getting an interview.

Don't despair YB! Ive been complete since 7/9 and also still "applicant in process"... Last cycle, I applied late and waited 3 months without status change and was still granted an interview. It ain't over til it's over!

Yeah, but when did they apply? I feel like that's kind of expected if you apply in October, vs July, you know what I mean?

+1. Is "applicant in progress" better than "applicant in process"? I've always had the 'progress' status since I became complete.

Quick Question: I know this may sound dumb but is the status page the "Supplemental Application Status"? Just asking because I received a interview invite from here but can only see "your application has successfully been submitted" and a continue button at the bottom. Wondering if its a glitch or just something I'm missing. Thx

Congrats on the II? What were your stas? OOS?

In the first email they sent you there is a link that says "appstat" and the end of the URL. Sign into that login, and hit the "next" button.

Good luck

Yeah thanks for the info. I'm OOS, around a 3.3-3.5, <30, top 25 college, URM. Seeing as I have around 6 II I'm guessing my LORs and extracurriculars are above average.

They were complete really early. I think it was like July completion and their II was no earlier than October.

Really hoping for an II here and/or Rush. Can anyone that is more familiar with the schools than I am explain their locations relative to each other and how the facilities compare?

Rush is about a block north of UIC. You can stand in Rush, look out a window, and see the UIC med school across the street. I don't know about how the facilities compare though. Rush's hospital is nice and they just opened a new 14-story tower that is really nice. I imagine UIC's hospital is also nice, but I haven't been in it. I think Rush and UIC share Stroger (Rush is more closely affiliated), which is one of the biggest hospitals in Chicago.

Great. Thank you!

I can't believe this school's secondary asks you to list all of your activities, contact person, timeline w/o copying and pasting...like REALLY? That information is word for word on AMCAS! I can understand the prereqs because a lot of people have varying course names, numbers, etc, but activities?!?!

Ughh :barf:

To the person who asked about OOS cost.
Double the tuition for instate.
I believe it runs 68 for the first 2 years follwed by 100k for the last 2.
Yes, they charge you for the summer of your 3rd and 4th year.

They used to have it laid out in one easy to read object on their website, but then I bet they saw how insane the cost was (more expensive than harvard) and made it more challenging.

What does "applicant in progress" mean? I was under the impression I had submitted everything necessary. Did your app show this after you had submitted?

It means they probably haven't looked at your app yet, or it's a silent rejection - I've had that status since July 12th.

Oh I didn't submit til mid August- looks like it may be a while then!

Weird Question: I'm submitted my secondary a couple weeks ago. My mom is on faculty at UIC medical school.....should I let the admissions know?

Doesn't most every secondary ask this question up front? If so then yes you should let them know. If they didn't ask I don't know why you'd bring attention to it.

surprisingly the uic secondary app doesnt have a section for listing connections to the school....

i dont know how youd inform them, write them a letter saying "my mom is on your faculty"
i just dont know how youd make that sound professional and not....cheesy/corny/etc

I was going to update them on a couple new publications and maybe also put down UIC relations, but yea I'm thinking maybe not. I know some schools show preference if you have some family connection, but I guess if they did care about that, they would have put something on their secondary.

II today! Ecstatic, but the available options are... not in Chicago. Has anyone called and been able to snag an unlisted interview date/location?

I don't have a car and it'd take like 4-7 hours for me to make it all the way to Champaign or Peoria via bus/amtrak.

I'm in a similar situation. Just been waiting on another date to open up. 3 weeks to schedule so another date I abound to open up.

I'll give them a call tomorrow and see if waiting is our best bet for a Chicago interview.

I was complete 7/6. About a 2 month wait.

Congrats! Did you get an email or did you have to check your status to find out?

So you folks who got your secondaries, how soon after verification did you receive your application status check emails? Just wondering....

Haha. No, but seriously though, did it take about a day or two or a week after verification? (I ask because I got verified yesterday and have yet to receive it. I don't know whether I should go into panic mode yet or not)

But I am being serious xD. I was verified 7/31 and had the email at the end of the day on 8/1. My friend had a 3 day wait, but it should be coming within the next 48 hours

I got that email with the application status link before I even got the secondary. And I got both about two days after I was verified.

Thanks y'all, now I can hold back the panic attack until next week...phew. Good luck with your apps! xD
