2013-2014 University of Illinois Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I literally can't stop laughing. I really want chicago track, any news on if it's all filled up or not? (Also thinking about applying to U-Med Program if I get the fat packet sometime this week)
+1. has anyone been placed into Chicago recently?

At interview they said they were holding back at this point on acceptances since they over extended themselves in the past (ugh!!!). Dean said they were meeting at the end of March. For those who interview for UMED and GMED the second look day is Friday April 11th. He also said preference cards are being mailed separately now. So if you get accepted in March you will get a card in April-ish and know your site within 2 weeks of that (well ahead of May 15th deadline) Hope this helps.

well that makes sense. did they give you any indication of whether the Chicago campus was full?

None at all. No use in trying though. Doesn't seem that anything is full as of right now since they are trying to be more careful about overextending themselves ya know?

how do you know this?

There's this guy. Called Jorge Girotti. He's kind of a big deal. I think they call him the "dean" or something? Figured maybe when he said April 11th he might have ACTUALLY been telling the truth 😉

I meant more of how you found out, I.e. e-mail, interview etc. Just because I didn't know a date had been set or announced

Sorry didn't mean to be an ass...it has been a rough week. I interviewed recently. He said it during the Deans talk and I wanted to ease your minds with what little information we have been given!

I live like 1o minutes away from UIC but my permanent address is in a suburb like an hour away. I hope I get my decision soon, I'm dying to know.

I have Conditional acceptance, meaning I have to complete the Summer Prematriculation Program (SPP). I dont care though

Any specific reason behind them making you complete that program? I didn't even know there was such a thing.

did they say how full the class is or when they will stop interviewing? it seems like they are moving slower than usual this year.

So.... I just received an email inviting me to sign up for housing... Am I accepted? If this is an error it will crush my heart 🙁

I got one too

class of 2018 🙂

Ok, what I dont understand is why do they want me to sign up for housing if I don't know where I will be placed which makes me believe I also got the same program you did. If I did, I have no problem with it I will be sooooo thankful

Ditto! The mail came at like 8pm today; I nearly had a heart attack.

Congrats all on your acceptances! If you haven't already, join the Facebook group and meet some of your classmates.

Accepted today!

Completed: 09/2013
Interview Invite: 11/14/2013
Inverview Date: 01/10/2014
Final Decision change + additional coresspondence tab: 02/24/2014
CBC email: None received (most likely because I have already been accepted at another school)
Packet received: 03/03/2014 (also received a housing email today)

I also have a conditional acceptance in that I have to complete the Summer Prematriculation Program (SPP).

I live about 20 minutes out of Chicago. Anybody aware of the odds at this point in being placed in Chicago at this point in the cycle?

If not placed in Chicago, I'd be reluctant to attend UIC. I just can't see myself living in peoria, rockford, or urbana for four years.

Any of you guys who got into SPP mind sharing your stats? Thanks!

April 11th - That is the second look day for accepted students. It is also the day they will be conducting interviews extended to UMED and GMED applicants. Dr. Girrotti said only students admitted to the program or "highly" considered wait list would be invited to interview at that time.

They didn't say much about either. I interviewed at the end of February and it seemed like there was plenty of chance of us to get accepted and matriculate to any of the campuses. There was no insight into how they placed us, just that they are trying something "new" this year. I think that was part of the reason behind pulling back a bit on extending offers. Sorry I couldn't help more. I'm in the same boat!

This might be a silly question...but if I already interviewed and am waiting to hear back, should I still submit an application for UMED/GMED? I was under the impression that people apply after they are accepted/start their first year, but you guys mentioned the interview date (April 11th) in posts above

When will they be sending out interview invites for UMED/GMED?

And is there a link to a more updated version of the application? The one of the website is for 2013

Just a caution (maybe you noticed) that this is of the 2013 schedule. 2014 has not been posted yet. Does anyone know how this works? You just have to go and pass to attend UIC? Or It's more a completion thing?

I did notice
It will be may 19-july 2
It DOES NOT guarentee a spot in the Chicago Campus, some people in the program do go to Urbana campus for M1 year
Its pass/fail like med school is and you have to Pass the program to start M1 year in the fall

Just got the "no final decision" email for February.

You could apply before your interview

question.. are GMED students placed on Chicago? I saw people had different answers. Anyone has idea about it?

I just paid to set up my Certified Profile/Background account, and nowhere on the site did it say how much they would charge (it cost 30 dollars btw).

Does anyone know how second look day works?

So do we just submit our immunization forms on this ? When I saw it in the e mail it seemed pretty unnecessary seeing as we should be able to just submit our immunization forms to the office
