2013-2014 University of Kansas Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So, on the day of interviews, they told my EDP interview group that we'd be finding out if we got in or not no later than Oct. 1 (which would be this Tuesday). Anybody know if there's a chance we'll find out before then?

We were told Friday.

I was wondering the same thing!! Does the school make it or does a student make it? lol i'll ask people i know who go there.

For everyone with interviews coming up or those who have already interviewed, how have you prepared?

MightBeACylon- This is a great website. I wish I had looked this one over before my interview.

A couple of things I will say about the interview...
1. It's not as bad as you think it will be. (Of course probably no amount of anyone telling you that will help until you're done with it!) They really are looking forward to meeting YOU. Which brings me to my second..

2. Just be yourself. --Do not lie. Do not "over prepare." You really do not want to sound like you have rehearsed all of your answers to death. Be the fun, intelligent, well-rounded person they selected to have interview.

Oh, and, Good luck!! 🙂

Did you find any information about this? I would make one, but I certainly do not want to step on any toes! 🙂 I'm just excited!!!!

my friend responded! "I don't really know who makes it lol, usually some random person in the class takes the initiative... so that person could be you!"

Nervous for Wednesday's round of interviews!! Here's hoping good things come from it! :scared: How many people do they accept after each round vs. putting into the March pool?

hahah I just tried to do it, but it requires you add someone to the group in order to create it and I don't know a even single other person who has already been accepted... I guess I will just wait it out.

Now we just all sit and wait for two weeks...

I certainly don't feel as confident after my interviews as I'd hoped. I wasn't asked ANY of the questions I anticipated. Wait and pray time. KU is still the only school I'm applying to. If I don't get in I'll just try again next year, and the year after, and the year after if necessary!

Secondary app is in as of last night. How do you know when you're complete..email confirmation? Hoping for an II for November's slots in Wichita...

You will get an email from Jason Edwards letting you know it's complete, but you can also keep logging into the MEDS app to keep track.

I'm currently looking for a place to live next year near KUMC, but am wondering if I can retain my in-state residency (and the lower tuition costs) if I were to rent a place in KC, MO. KU SOM's website says you must retain your Kansas residency (obvi), but I guess I'm asking if there's a way to both rent in KCMO and maintain KS residency. Any info would be appreciated! Thanks!

How long does it take to be marked complete? I submitted about a month ago - still no word

Took me a week but I did early decision so that might be a factor. You can try calling the admissions office.

well, MEDS is showing my file is complete, but I didn't get any email- safe to assume I am complete then?

If I remember correctly you have to have an address in KS, so you have to be careful since the school itself is right at the border.

I'm a current M1 and they are really strict about your address and will do audits to ensure that you live where you say you live. It is an expensive risk to take...

Got in after applying EDP! I'm here for any interview/application advice. Hit me up.

Good luck, mate! The interviews are very relaxed and they are very kind. Just have a conversation with them and you'll be fine.

Not sure how many people they accept after each round of interviews, but the acceptance rates for in state resides are generally 75% of the people they interview.

Does anybody have an idea of any GPA/MCAT cutoffs for KU EDP this time around? I know in the past recommendations have been at least a 3.5 GPA and 29 MCAT but I didn't know if, with the loss of 31 seats this year, these recommendations had changed. Do extracurriculars have any weight with EDP?

There is no explicit "cutoff" per se...but obviously the better you look on paper, the more consideration you will be given. I'll be honest, I didn't have the greatest MCAT but had a high GPA (science and regular) and accomplished a ton in my extracurriculars and got in via EDP this year.

They typically accept about 10-15% of their emerging class as EDP. Interview dates look to be early this year on September 12, 13, & 16.

In this year's EDP pool, there were 129 applicants and 69 were invited to interview. They told us they'd accept about 66% of those invited to interview.

Anybody know/think that we will hear about decisions sometime this week?

Probably not for another week or two. MSAR says earliest decisions went out on November 15th last year I think.

Yeah. Since Dean McCurdy said it would likely take 3 Tuesday meetings to get through this round, I would suspect the won't go out til early November at best.

MEDs is marked complete as of 10/18/13, but no confirmation email yet. Crossing fingers for II! 🙂

Does anyone know how long after we're complete we receive an II? Isn't it usually 3-4 weeks?

I don't know if I stand much of a chance! 3.9 sci GPA, 23 MCAT... 2 years ICU nursing experience... Dual sport athlete in college. Hoping for the best.

Awesome sci GPA and it seems like you have excellent EC's. They'll eat that up. Hopefully those will make up for your MCAT. But these days, they're looking at the overall applicant and getting less away from your raw numbers. Stay in faith and good luck!

Has anyone heard back on RD yet?

I interviewed in mid-October and I'm now "on hold" until March.

I know someone else already offered some direction on this, but in the past, the KUMC website explicitly stated that Kansas residents with a 3.2 GPA and a 24 MCAT were guaranteed an interview. FWIW, I don't know if this has changed, and it isn't on their website any longer, but it was the case for those entering in 2013. That said, MSAR posts matriculant data showing much higher scores for the mean; going to show you that an interview--even for in-state--does not even come close to guaranteeing a spot in the program for those who have those minimum numbers.
