Do you think the automatic interview with necessary stats will hold for next year?Dean McCurdy also mentioned that there are more applicants this year, including an additional couple hundred instate applicants if my memory serves me correctly. This means she is filling each interview day with as many interviews as possible. Thusly, the density of applications is greater and it will take the admissions office longer to review any particular interview day than in previous years.
Interestingly, I think the increase in the number of applicants affects KU admissions more greatly than it does other medical schools because of KU's policy of giving interviews to all instate applicants above the 24 mcat/3.2 GPA threshold. Other schools would simply reject more applicants pre-interview and give the same number of interviews. But KU is obligated to increase the number of interviews it conducts.
The admissions committee meets on Tuesdays to decide on the fate of applicants. They were unable to meet on Tuesday Nov 5th due to having a visiting candidate for the position of medical school Executive Dean. It is unlikely that they met on the Tuesday of Thanksgiving.
Gru commented that he interviewed around October 11th (I am guessing that it was actually the first day of RD interviews, October 9th) and had his letter dated October 25. Having a letter dated October 25th means that his application was reviewed on October 22nd.
We know some applicants from Oct 28th have not been reviewed yet because of Shen924’s post, unless Shen’s letter is in the mail right now.
Estimating that it takes two Tuesdays to review one day of interviewees, this is what I think we could possibly expect in terms of decision timeline:
Interviewed early Oct 9 = Reviewed Oct 15
Interviewed late Oct 9 = Reviewed Oct 22
Interviewed early Oct 10 = Reviewed Oct 29
-----Dean Candidate
Interviewed late Oct 10 = Reviewed Nov 12
Interviewed early Oct 11 = Reviewed Nov 19
------Thanksgivings
Interviewed late Oct 11 = Reviewed Dec 3
Interviewed early Oct 28 = Reviewed Dec 10 (Your lucky day may be today, Shen.)
Interviewed late Oct 28 = Reviewed Dec 17
-----Christmas Break
-----??News Years break?? (I am probably at least 1-2 weeks off at this point)
Interviewed early Oct 29 = Reviewed Jan 7
Interviewed late Oct 29 = Reviewed Jan 14
Interviewed early Oct 30 = Reviewed Jan 21
Interviewed late Oct 30 = Reviewed Jan 28
Interviewed early Nov 18 = Reviewed Feb 4
Interviewed late Nov 18 = Reviewed Feb 11
This seems like an impossibly slow schedule, and it would not finish reviewing applicants by KU's typical mass decision date in late March. Perhaps some interview dates have less applicants and only takes 1 Tuesday to review.
Maybe. It depends if the upward trend in the number of applicants continues into the near future, making such a policy impossible to fulfill.Do you think the automatic interview with necessary stats will hold for next year?
Welp, it looks like there are holes in my model. Maybe the admissions committee was enthusiastic during the first couple review sessions and managed to get through Oct 9th in under 2 meetings.I interviewed on on Oct. 10th and had my letter Oct. 26th.
From my experiences this year and last year it seems like the further in the process the more behind they get. Also, the Nov. 18th interview week had 5 interview days so I'm sure it's taking quite a bit of time to review all of those applicants.Maybe. It depends if the upward trend in the number of applicants continues into the near future, making such a policy impossible to fulfill.

Dang! I thought those seats were taken from the Pharmacy/Nursing/Research areas, not just medicine...In addition to this, I believe next year's class will have approximately 30 fewer seats due to state budget cuts.
Congrats! When was your letter sent out? I was in the group after you so maybe we will hear next week.Got my letter today. Accepted! Interviewed on 10/29. Hope others have good news as well!

Dean McCurdy told our group they were taking less people after each round this year bc there are more applicants. I would assume it's the top 10% of interviewers based on what people have said previously.Anybody have idea on how many are typically accepted during each interview cycle vs how many are accepted in March?
Is that for the entire week of interviewers or just those from the 18th?Hello everyone,
I interviewed on Nov. 18th and the dean ASSURED us we would have answers (or the answers would be snail mailed) latest the 18th of this month. I hope they are sticking to that. Just thought I would let everyone know!![]()

Do non-trads count as minorities for the post bacc program? Anyone on here have any idea?
I got an acceptance letter today! Interviewed the 28th of Oct.
The letter was postmarked for 10 Dec and the letter was for 9 Dec.
I'm about 600 miles from KC so it takes 3-4 days for that distance in case anyone else is further away waiting.
Good luck to the rest of that week's interviewees and to those coming up!
I know that the website states that OOS applicants have to wait until late January/early February. Anyone know if that is when interview invites are sent out or should we expect invites earlier than that and to interview around that time frame?
I interviewed 11-19 and got the "hold" letter today.Has anyone from the Nov. 18-22 group heard anything?
I am OOS. Interviewed Dec. 3rd. McCurdy said that my group should hear back around Dec. 24th but not getting my hopes up for that date.
Ditto. 11/20 interviewI interviewed 11-19 and got the "hold" letter today.
Ditto. 11/20 interview
When was it dated? I have it sent to my parents in Florida, because I am out of the country. So I just want to estimate when I will be getting the letter. Thank you in advance. 🙂Accepted. Interviewed 11-18. Average stats
Did you apply EDP?Well after a while of silence I'm back! Congratulations to everyone who is in!
I'm scheduled for my second interview on the 9th.

Not sure what the exact stats are from each round of interviews vs how many are accepted in March, I figure there necessarily isn't a quota they have to accept after each round of interviews. As you may or may not know, your acceptance/denial/waitlist status is based upon your committee score so it's a matter of how you interviewed plus the rest of your application, the stars being aligned just right, and a majority of the committee members being in a good mood on the day they review your file. But there are many people on this forum who got accepted with "average" stats, so just stay in faith and keep thinking good thoughts!Anybody have idea on how many are typically accepted during each interview cycle vs how many are accepted in March?
Cumulative I believe. For Sci, the higher the better. Is it 3.2 cumulative or science?

Yeah, my cumulative is 3.42 but my science is 3.19 unfortunately from my freshman year.Cumulative I believe. For Sci, the higher the better.
Yes.Did you apply EDP?
I agree. It seems like people have been joining about 5 at a time ~a month after the interview dates. So I've been watching the KU class of 2018 facebook group grow, and it has only gained about 20 members since the EDP applicants were accepted. Either accepted people haven't joined the group yet, or the applicants on "hold" still have a good reason for hope.
The letter said mid MarchIs there an official date as to when those on hold will be notified? If not, is it usually early, mid or late March?
