Just got one today! OOS 3.8 post bac GPA, 32 MCAT

Might be bad news to some, but in case people wanted to know, the email they sent me said I'm scheduled for the last interview block of the year: Feb 12-14.
Like I said, last year I got an invite on 01/23.... so who knows. Keep your hope alive mah people 😀

Just received an ii as well. OOS, decent GPA, pretty crummy MCAT. Great EC's. Does anyone know whether this last block of interviews are mainly for waitlist spots, or is there a decent shot of a straight up acceptance? Any insight into how many OOS have been accepted so far? Total acceptance? Thanks in advance!

I would estimate total acceptance at ~100 based on the 74 people who have joined the facebook group so far.

You still have a shot of being straight up accepted after your interview, but so far the trend seems to be only accepting a few post-interview, placing many interviewees on the "hold" list until mid-March, and rejecting the rest. Being OOS makes it tough, but they gave you an interview slot for a reason!

I also got an interview invite for Feb 14th. I'm very honored and happy about this opportunity. I'm an OOS and I guess I'll see a few of you there as well. Good luck everybody!

Isn't chance of an OOS acceptance just as high as in state once given an interview? Or do they interview a large number of OOS?

No, sorry. The admission stats I've seen say that ~50% of IS interviewees get accepted, while only ~30% of OOS interviewees get accepted.

No. KU prefers their in state students, but will accept some oos for diversity and because they're a good fit.

Anyone have any idea as to how many of the "on holds" are accepted each year?

There is a clear difference between Matriculated and Accepted. MSAR reports OOS : 102 Interviewees and 30 matriculated. My prediction is that they accept at least 50 and only 30 chose to matriculate at KU.

what are the interviews like-- how many interviewers from the panel at a time? I just got an II and would appreciate any insight!

^^Same. There wasn't much in my email besides knowing it's 2 30 minute interviews. Are they open or closed file? Ethical questions? Do they ask everyone the same basic questions, or is it more conversational?

First of all, congrats!!! You will have ONE person from the panel, that will be you first interviewer. The interview with them is open file, and use them for your advantage. It's them who you should explain anything you wish, since they are basically you lawyer... They are representing you at the committee of 15 people. The second interviewer do not see your grades, but see everything else.
I did have ethical question and question about the ObamaCare... So brush up on that.

Good luck!!!!

PlasticsEthusE summed it up best. I had 2 interviewers for my second interview. All of my questions were about me, why I wanted to go into medicine, and whatever I mentioned in my application. I had no ethical questions.

Sorry for all the grammar errors.... Using my phone and I hate this SDN app. Grrrrr

Anyone hear about letters going out yet for those that interviewed the week of 1/6?

We'd probably know by now if they had somehow managed to get through the reviews at last week's meeting, right? Hopefully they finish tomorrow and late this week/ early next week we're all celebrating!

Hi! I also received the OOS invite for Feb 14 and was delighted for the email. Looking forward to this and meeting some of you there.

Anyone going to the welcome reception? Is it business casual? The email didn't specify what we are suppose to wear...

I haven't gotten an email about a welcome reception. Is it for admitted students?

Coming out from the west coast and won't be able to make reception, but if I were going I'd dress in sweater, wool skirt, and boots.

I went to that reception last year. Most of people just wore the suit they had from the interview. Others dressed business casual. All there is, is a table with cheeses and some light d'oeuvre and the minority committee will give some speech and there will be current minority students and professors standing around talking to groups of people around cocktail tables. Hope this helps. 🙂

I'll be going, and just going to wear the suit I have on. It's only two hours between the interview and reception, so going to look around the city, grab some coffee, and then come back. I can never turn down free food, even if it's just cheeses.

Did anyone contact the office to see when letters went out?

Edit: Next week, apparently.

Awesome to hear!!! Still waiting to see if I get an interview. Only hope is the postbacc program and I'd be thrilled with that.

Hope snow doesn't delay another week 🤔
I know they are closed for tomorrow 🙁
My application was just being reviewed in the last week. Not sure if the dean is reviewing it or someone else.. Anyone have any knowledge of that?

Pleas
@jayhawker1193: They do take your GPA & MCAT into account but I get the sense that a lot of the selection criteria is based on your interview as well as your short answer essays in your KU secondary. In addition, there is another short personal statement that you submit when you apply for the post bac program.

@kansas16: there are a couple people in the program now who are not URM but they do both come from fairly rural areas. To your second question, I think that you're right that they liked us in our interviews but ultimately felt that we had some (most likely academic or MCAT) weakness in our application that needed to be addressed. Some people in the program had good GPA's but a lower MCAT. I was kind of the opposite in that I did well on the MCAT but my undergrad GPA was frankly pretty bad. I am several years removed from undergrad and have done well in classes since but I think they wanted to make sure that at this point in my life, my MCAT was a better indicator of my academic ability than my college grades.

If you do interview and are waitlisted or rejected, it would be worth reaching out to someone in the OCED office. I can PM you contact details. Let me know if you have any other questions
please PM me!

Probably the Dean is looking over it.

The last three interview dates are next week. I don't mean to discourage you, but I don't want you to be unrealistic.

Have any of you who interviewed in January gotten a letter yet? Please post if you do? I expect to hear something this week or next if I heard correctly at the interview.

Not yet. And I'm expecting to hear back this week, but because of the storm I wouldn't be surprised if we had to wait til next week.

Post secondary 🙁
I'm an instate applicant but they extended the deadline for me. Part of my secondary got cut off during submission so Jason offered to reopen it, I didn't ask him to do so, he offered.
My son was in the hospital and still is so I was so busy I didn't resubmit it the day he reopened it but he kept the submission date the same. He mentioned that while many of the interview slots for next week are filling up there are some open spots and they would extend them as the date got closer. I will be at KC tomorrow, is it a bad idea to come in person to say hello and see if anyone is actively reviewing my file and let them know I am available at a moments notice to come for an interview? I know my best shot is the post bacc program and dean McCurdy encouraged me to apply even though my MCAT was low. I know a friend of mine who's oos just got accepted to Tx A&M so she declined her interview slot. Maybe there's hope...

I know, I'm just hoping Jason was right that they still had slots open and would extend an interview for them as the date got closer- this was as of Monday the 3rd of Feb.

Just call the office and ask if it's being reviewed.

Have the adcoms at KU announced a date they'll be sending out decisions about what happens with applicants who are on "hold," post-interview?

Has anyone heard about KU getting rid of the two test system? Is it going to happen this year? I hope it's just talk.

I know they don't like podcasting.

Finally got an interview invite today. Their very last interview of the season. Hopefully they saved the best for last!

Is there a place that we can actually look to see these things outside of just waiting for an email or letter?
