jayhawker1193: They do take your GPA & MCAT into account but I get the sense that a lot of the selection criteria is based on your interview as well as your short answer essays in your KU secondary. In addition, there is another short personal statement that you submit when you apply for the post bac program.

kansas16: there are a couple people in the program now who are not URM but they do both come from fairly rural areas. To your second question, I think that you're right that they liked us in our interviews but ultimately felt that we had some (most likely academic or MCAT) weakness in our application that needed to be addressed. Some people in the program had good GPA's but a lower MCAT. I was kind of the opposite in that I did well on the MCAT but my undergrad GPA was frankly pretty bad. I am several years removed from undergrad and have done well in classes since but I think they wanted to make sure that at this point in my life, my MCAT was a better indicator of my academic ability than my college grades.
