Are you in CA or somewhere west coast or east coast? I would give it until tomorrow and then call Dr. McCurdy's assistant Annette or Jason. I remember them saying if you hadn't got a letter by mid of this week you should call.

Thanks! I'll definitely call, if it doesn't get here tomorrow. I live in CA. Hopefully the mail is just slow and not lost...

May have to ask you to hook me up too lol
I'm happy to share the wealth if you're in KS and if you're up for meeting in person at a library I could use some group studying too

If you're feeling up to letting us know what the decision is, I would love to hear another acceptance post!!! Best of luck!!!

Still no letter.... Guess I'll be calling them bright and early tomorrow.

Hi everyone, did any of you receive an email for post bacc yet? Jason is out of the office until June so I could not get any information from him. Thanks

Aaaaaand it's a rejection 🙁. Mail still has not arrived lol I just asked for a PDF. I guess couldn't expect much being OOS with no ties to Kansas.

I just received my invite today!

Yea I just received my post bacc invitation as well. I am wondering if they offer the post bacc to everyone that is disadvantage background and so forth. I have no strong tie with Kansas. There are many disadvantage and underrepresented minorities out there so the chances of getting in that program from out of state students seem quite slim. Does anyone know the trend of acceptance in this program and so forth? Do you have strong tie with kansas docksan?

No, they don't. They have to be specifically recommended by the committee. I think they put forth a list of like 30-40 people, the subcommittee picks about half, and then about half of that is selected.

I do have strong KS ties. Lived here a long time, served at JayDoc during my undergrad, graduated from KUMC, did pretty much all of my college here in KS.

I have no plans of going anywhere. I love the people here. I hope that once I finish the app that I do get selected so I can repay them by showing them just how determined I am to serve the community that gave me the chance in the first place.

Are there any current students that have done the six week pre-matriculation program? I received an invite to apply for it, but am wondering what it entails and if it is worth it.

I think you have really good chance then. Good luck!

How many out of state residents get chosen?

Only a fraction of people are invited. As far as I was told on the phone the criteria basically is:

1) Must be URM or Disadvantaged
2) Must have had a strong interview
3) Must have decent stats (MCAT vs GPA considered)
4) Other factors
5) ???

I think KS residency or ties had something to do with it as well. Not sure. I'm sure if you asked how many were invited they would tell you.

I actually wonder how many people were invited to apply. My application just went into "received/review" status.

according to Maria- there was 80+ invites sent out but she did not say how many responses. Last year there was 40 and only 24 applied and 12 got in. This year there is 11 slots due to one being deferred. As far as I know the program requirements aren't very clear- other than being from a rural underserved area, disadvantaged economic status and under represented minority that's it.
I vaguely recall that MCAT scores were often on the lower side but all sub scores needed to be a 6 or greater, and grades were usually below average or higher depending on MCAT scores. The program seems designed to give a stronger science background to ensure success in medical school. For example- someone had a really strong MCAT <35 but very low undergrad GPA so they accepted that person in, others have had decent grades but lower MCATs (usually around 20-23 sometimes higher and some a little lower)
So if an applicant has really strong MCAT (over 27) and high grades, I'm not sure how the program would benefit them except for the fact that it's a conditional acceptance to medical school.
Don't take my word for anything though, I don't work in their office and I am definitely not an expert- the best thing to do is call and ask them more about their selection process but I don't know if they can disclose much detail.
I was invited to apply and I would love to be a part of the program, it's a good fit for me because regardless of raising my mcat I had some old W's on my transcript as well as several Incompletes (the grades were in after AmCAs verified) and the adcom found that concerning when coupled with a low MCAT and the fact that I have a special needs kiddo (they didn't say that part exactly but I'm pretty sure that was discussed).
I definitely welcome the chance to improve academic weaknesses and get a good support system in place before actually starting medical school.
I'm still preparing to retake my MCAT and reapply since the chances of getting in the program seem pretty slim.
I don't recall hearing anything about being IS vs. OOS being a big factor but who knows.

I'm currently waiting to hear back from KU about the postbacc program as well...

Taken directly from letter we all got:

Please indicate your interest by completing our online application form and submitting it no later than Friday, April 11th, 2014.
You will NOT need to re-interview, nor send additional letters of recommendation or transcripts with the application. Applicants will be informed of selection decisions by the Admissions Subcommittee after April 18th, 2014. You should know that acceptance into the program will not affect your application status at other medical schools this year.
Again we want you to know that the Committee feels very strongly that you have the potential to become an excellent physician, and we hope that you will seriously consider this option for your medical education.

My guess is that depending on how many of the applications they received may affect how fast they respond. It says after the 18th, not on the 18th so that could mean the next week or even the week after. I hope not but looks like in the past other people who applied mentioned they didn't have answer until the end of April or even the very beginning of May. Hopefully not since that cuts it close for people to get to KC and start classes by 5/27. Your best bet is to call or email and ask. I did edit out links and email addresses since this is a public forum.

5/27 is when classes start? yeah i would really HOPE that i would find in sooner than later because i'm out of state and would have to figure out housing and all that, would you have an idea of the actual classes that are going to be taken?

https://edwardscampus.ku.edu
You can check here for classes offered since this is the campus where the post bacc students take them. Honestly, I would call the office and ask because I am not sure what class they will require

I was told you pick an elective over the summer (3cr) and then 12cr at Edwards for Fall/Spring followed by a six-week pre-matriculation course at the med center.

Crossing my fingers, though I have already contingencies in case I get told no.

Just withdrew from KU. Hope one of you gets my spot in Kansas City. Best of luck to all of you. Rock Chalk!!

Just a heads up... if you are taken off the waitlist, you are automatically put in Phase 1 in KC and Phase 2 in Wichita. Good luck to all waiting to hear good news!

Good luck to all of the Post-Bacc applicants.

Wait listed for post-bacc? Odd.

The letter appeared to imply a waitlist if someone decided not to take the slot, but didn't indicate the position of candidates for the waitlist and said unlikely that anyone will give their spot. So best course of action for me is to focus on improving my app and MCAT and reapplying. Best of luck

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone from the waitlist had been contacted yet? I see on the MEDS page that alternate 11 is next to be called, but I am alternate number 6 and haven't recieved a call. Really hoping they are calling people right now and just haven't gotten to me yet.

Hey same here and I'm number 5. Maybe it's inaccurate somehow? Hope they didn't skip over somehow.

officially withdrew my seat from the class today. Best of luck to those on the alternate list.
