2013-2014 University of Texas - San Antonio Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I did not either. I just wrote them an email to confirm that they had received my completed application. I would recommend you do the same to be safe.

Did you email anyone specifically or just the admissions office in general?

Still no response from admissions asking them to confirm my application. Very strange. I wonder why some schools don't send any confirmation.

Hey Deja, I did receive this from UTHSCSA a few days after my app was complete:

Thank you for your application to the University of Texas School of Medicine at San Antonio. At this time, your application for the 2014 entering class has been received.

Maybe check your spam folder and your TMDSAS status page for anything missing?

Just got my first received email from here! Hoping for an interview!

II Recieved, TMDSAS submitted ~7/20. 35+ MCAT, 3.6+GPA In state. very happy with quick turnaround of tx apps especially since amcas is taking so long.

Congrats! What interview dates did they give you?

They gave a calendar with available dates. There were only two left in October, but I didn't look at the other months so I don't know what those are like.

I hear you 😛 I am still waiting to hear back something from everywhere else

Is there anyone who was transmitted July 29th or afterwards and has received an II?

Same here. I've been complete for about 2 weeks now and I've received confirmation emails from every Texas school except UTHSCSA for my primary or secondary being submitted. I emailed the admissions office and haven't gotten a response. I don't know what's going on but it makes me worried since UTHSCSA is my top choice :scared:
They definitely have been sending out confirmations. My TMDSAS transmitted 7/2 and they confirmed 7/9. They are probably a little bit behind at this point.

Anyone interviewing this monday and want to split the cost of a hotel room, pm me! They didnt get me a host 🙁

I've been wondering the same. It doesn't seem that any iis have gone out for those transmitted in august (at least on these forums). This is one of the schools I feel like I have a shot at so maybe they just haven't seen us august apps yet 😀

I submitted in July and have only received an confirmation :/

^ I'm in the same boat. My app got transmitted July 10th and I only got a confirmation email as well. Just gotta keep holding out.

What time did y'all show up in the morning for interviews? The schedule says registration is from 8:30-9am. Does that mean be there around 8:30?

Yes show up at 8:30 am. You get breakfast and to mingle with current students.

I interviewed here 9/9. I really loved this school and everything they have to offer. The MD program has 2 interviews, I had 1 student and 1 physician. Neither had access to my GPA or MCAT, and everyone I met associated with the program seemed more interested in a holistic look in the candidates.

I would love to go here for sure! Fingers crossed!

I visited the campus multiple times and loved it. I'm hoping I get to interview here!

Hey there, first post here :hello:

I'm anxiously waiting to hear back since this is the only school I've applied to.

TMDSAS submitted 8/29, confirmation email 9/10, GPA 3.47, sGPa 3.5, MCAT 33

*fingers crossed*

..You applied to one school?

Yep, I know it's unusual, but I'm a non-trad and my husband has an established career here, we have a house, etc. If I don't get in this year, I'll try to make my application more attractive and try again next year. 🙂

I heard it looks bad when applicants do that. It shows that you are not committed for a career in medicine since you will only go if its desirable to your location. I hope what I heard are just rumors and wish you the best of luck!

I would research more on the topic. Maybe try to be more lenient on where you would attend and apply to all the texas schools? I don't know I'm just trying to throw some suggestions your way. Your GPA and MCAT are definitely competitive (not sure about your EC's but i'm sure they're great as well) and it would suck not to be interviewed/accepted due to that reason.

If any of you can, please give me advantages San Antonio may have over Baylor, UTSW, and/or UTMB, especially with regard to overall student happiness/stress and preparation for Step I.

Thanks!

II received 9/21!!

transmitted: 6/18
GPA: 3.9
Mcat: 30

Interview invite! Transmitted 6-17. Got the houston invite 30 minutes later, I'M SO EXCITED!!!!

This makes me feel better actually. It's good to see people are still getting invites even though they transmitted a whole month earlier than me. There is still hope!

I just interviewed at UTHSCSA, and I really loved it here! Interview was conversational, and my interviewers were very sweet and supportive.

I was wondering if anyone heard back from the school after the interview yet?

Heard back? In what form? Nobody can be accepted until October 15 and that is only for OOS. IS you will have to wait til November 15.

Did anyone just get an email from Dr Jones starting with "I am personally very pleased with your interview"?

Also on a side note, I just got an email from Dr. Jones congratulating me on my preparation for medical school and informing me that if I want any further information about UTHSCSA to contact him.

At first I thought it was a rejection email by the way the email started.

Actually, in your case, this is not true. Having an established family puts you in a different category of applicant, that most grad students won't be aware of.

yours are completely legitimate reasons to apply to one school, and I've heard of students doing this before. If you don't get in, you may need to broaden your pool in your second year and just make a note of it.

I encourage you to email Dr. jones directly. He is an *amazing* and unusual admissions director. If you don't get in, he will actually meet with you after the application cycle to discuss how to improve your app. He will definitely advise you in this situation. Good luck 🙂

I wonder what exactly the school is looking for in a candidate

It's good to hear schools take these situations into account. 🙂

I've heard that Dr. Jones is very personable--it's great to hear he takes such an interest in the applicants. Thanks for the info!
