Hey guys -- I talked with someone at WMed and got the following information regarding interviews:

"...We are still scheduling interviews and making admissions offers. We plan to interview candidates through March. [Many files are still] under active consideration from our admissions committee. If there is any change to your status, you will be notified promptly via email.
If you have any updates or additions to your file (new grades, experiences, etc), you're welcome to email them to [us]".

Hope that gives some of you a bit more hope! 🙂

Waitlisted today. Interviewed about a month ago. I'm sure there will be waitlist movement, so I still have my hopes up. This school, although new, I think will be very good.

I got wait listed as well, bummer! Interviewed 12/16. Good luck to everyone else

Waitlisted as well. Interviewed 12/16. super bummed, loved the school & the people I met on interview day.

Waitlisted here too. Interviewed 12/16 also. Hopefully there will be significant waitlist list movement soon.

Does anyone ever get rejected pre-interview? Can the status ever explicitly say "rejected"?

wow why is everyone waitlisted -_- i have an interview here next week...now im more nervous

Hey, at least you got an interview!

I know it was mentioned earlier that approx 300 will interview for 50 matriculating spots. I'm interviewing here next week too, see you there! But it's safe to say that more of us will be put on the wait list than accepted

They may be just accepting 50 people outright and then they will go to the wait list because they don't know what to expect since it's their first year. I could be wrong, too.

I think this somewhat depends on how carefully they're targeting admissions offers (i.e., whether they're carefully selecting people who would be perfect fits and almost sure to accept). CMU, in their first year, gave 119 admissions offers for 64 seats... > 50% is a pretty good yield for a new school. I expect WMed will have similar numbers and end up offering admission to just over 100. But who knows, I could definitely also be wrong. 😛

True! Hah, guess "safe to say" probably isn't the correct term for the first year of admissions...

My review has been complete for 3 months now... I definitely think the small initial class size is having a huge impact on the amount of phone interviews and IIs they're giving out...

Yeah, I'm not holding my breath. Pretty disappointing, but I guess we can't expect too much with space for only 1-2% of applicants.

see you there! This is by far my most costly interview trip so far.

It's worth it!! I had to drive 18h to/from kalamazoo in absolutely horrendous-but-typical midwestern blizzard, but it all pays off the minute you step in the room. The faculty/staff are incredibly nice and excited to meet you, the FOOD is legit!!, and the hard-hat tour was pretty fun, picturing the place in full swing. Plus they had Simulation Lab demos and you get to work with the robots!! For not having the interview day in the actual medical school, it was quite a full, informative and eventful day - unlike some schools that you do the "hey, welcome, heres your interview, heres the financial aid presentation, heres the school, okay bye." That being said, it IS a 8a-4p day, so it helps if you make some friends at your table and in your "color group"!! *steps off soapbox*

This is a really silly question, but as a girl and planning on wearing heels, did people just bring boots and carry them around until the hard hat tour?

I think some brought flats/tennis shoes and just changed right before the walking tour. There is a coat room to check all your stuff so it's easy and saves you from carrying things around all day.

This is what I did. I wore flat ugly unprofessional Uggs knockoffs. But my feet were warm.

ETA - I meant to quote the post above mine about keeping a change of shoes in the coat room.

I'm a dude, so what @Elewynne said 🙂! They give you some time to put different shoes, jackets on and the closet is right outside of the banquet hall where the interviews/presentations/lunch is held. The tour was very "informal" i.e., you don't worry about having to make any impressions. Most of us just put winter jackets on over our suits, and easily half of us wore ski/sports jackets. However, the gold hardhat, bright orange vest and protective eyewear we had to wear definitely brought out the pattern in my gold tie...

Great to know! Thanks so much.

Hey did anyone receive a confirmation email that they received your enrollment commitment?

They said on interview day that we will hear back within a month. What's about the average time it's taken for people who have interviewed to find out?

Quick question. I interviewed with WMU two weeks ago, and I apparently missed a package in the mail from them yesterday. I haven't been able to pick it up yet, but does anyone know if they send out a general package or magazine to everyone who interviews?

Thanks guys!

Yes, they send out a thank you card and a little keychain to everyone who interviews.

Thanks so much! I figured it was something like that. It seemed too early to hear either way at this point. I'm just getting pretty impatient about all of this stuff, lol.

To those who attended their interviews, what was your opinion of the applicant pool? Well rounded? High metrics? extensive experience in research?

Any stand out applicants that caught your attention?

I mean, you could look through the thread to see the MCAT/GPA of those accepted, but the application process - including the interview day - is very holistic. No one was really parading around with their metrics, but everyone came from all walks of life. Very diverse group - while the "breakfast" hour is optional, I'd recommend attending it because breakfast and lunch were the best times to get to know other interviewees. As a married non-trad, it seemed like a lot of other interviewees were single, traditional applicants. I think you're best shot of standing out is just like any other interview day - your 1 on 1. My interviewer asked a little bit about medical experience, but honestly 2/3 of the interview, we talked about pine derbies, theater and running.

Seems they've been hearing back at about the one month mark. Good luck!

Got the waitlist email a few mins ago - interviewed in January.

Got a waitlist email just now. Interviewed in mid January. Even if I was to get in I will be going to my state school most likely. Good luck to everyone waiting

I also just got a waitlist email, and I also interviewed in mid January. It's looking like they are waitlisting everyone now. Oh well, can't say I'm not disappointed though. But I'm still hopeful for movement on the list.

Good luck everyone.

Holistic Review Complete 10/31 and still no Phone II. Do you think it's safe to say I've pretty much gotten a silent rejection?

Same here, except my holistic review was complete even earlier (9/16). I've essentially written it off as a silent rejection, but I suppose there is the tiniest glimmer of hope. :/

For comparison, my holistic review was completed 10/16 and I received a phone II two weeks later. Obviously not receiving one yet is less than ideal, but don't give up hope just yet! As a new school, they're likely to give out well over 100 acceptances in the end to fill the class of 50.

My holistic review was completed around the same time as yours and I JUST received a Phone II invite on 2/7. I completed it yesterday, 2/10. I'd say there is still hope.

About Phone Interview:

Hi,
I am curious about what questions asked during phone interview. Is conversational or will I expect a serial mechanic questions?
The invite said it will be conducted with contractor. Any idea what this means? Please comment. Thanks

II Today. LizzyM 70. Phone Interview ~11/08 (completed 11/11). The only date I see is Dec 6th, with January times blocked out. Will those be opened?

Hi,
How did your phone interview go? Care to share your experience? it would be very much appreciated.
