2014-2015 Cooper Medical School of Rowan University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was rejected as well. But I had a great experience interviewing here. The interview day was well-organized and the faculty seem to be very involved with the students. Best of luck to everyone applying.

Interviewed 1/23, loved this school. They told us most would hear back last week. Radio silence on this end. Anyone else who interviewed on 1/23 heard anything?

Hey, yeah actually I was (and still sort of am) in a state of shock, I was accepted! Things might have gotten a little delayed due to the snow that weekend, but good luck! And good luck to everyone else here

Does anyone know how their waitlist works and how many people get accepted off of it?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?! Anxiety sucks :/

I'm so sorry. The process is very arbitrary. Did you feel that it was a good fit?
Yeah, thought so, also, they don't give feedback. Ummm ok. Want to know how to improve for next time, well, tough...

That is tough. Best of luck to you and I'm hoping you find a great fit!

1Anyone know when the next committee is? I'm still anxiously awaiting an answer, and am curious. Thanks!

I just called--couldn't stand it! Apparently they hadn't got to all of January 23 at previous meeting, and met last night. I assume some notifications start to go out today for both the 23 of January and the last interview date. Good luck all!

That is truly torture! I heard back yesterday late morning that I had a Priority WL status. Not what I was hoping for, but not the worst either! Good luck. I hope for you that you get the acceptance email/call!

How do you know it's a priority waitlist? My email said the waitlist is unranked?

Believe this has been posted previously, but it reads like this:

You have been put on the priority wait list of Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. Most established schools accept between two and three times the class size to fill each class. They can do this because they have years of experience that have led them to know the number of students who elect to attend another school. As a new school, we do not have that opportunity and we cannot have more than 80 in the Class of 2019. This limits our opportunity to extend a full admit status.
Our Admissions Committee has chosen to have you in a select small number of applicants that will be the first to be offered a position as seats open. Cooper Medical School of Rowan University knows that you resonate with our mission and will thrive in our curriculum. Your academic accomplishments speak for themselves. Your overall application including the personal statement, the secondary application, and the letters of recommendation made it easy to offer you an interview because of the path you chose in these past few years. Interview day allowed us to meet you, to see you at the bedside via the standardized patient encounters and to get to know you through the eyes of our faculty.
In the weeks and months that follow we will keep in touch and update you on your status. It will likely be in late May 2015 that we will begin pulling from the wait list. Should you accept a seat in another school and wish to be removed from consideration, we would appreciate notification. Even if you are accepted elsewhere, we would be happy to keep you on our priority list and give you the option to attend CMSRU should it arise.
We would be proud to eventually offer you the option of being part of the CMSRU story as we continue to build our mission in Camden.

I've been recently admitted to RWJ/Cooper/NJMS, would anyone in a similar situation or just knowledgable about the schools from applying/interviewing help inform me better as to how to differentiate them and make my choice?

anyone that interviewed last month still not hear back? i really loved this school but don't want to keep bothering the office of admissions.

I think that they meet approximately every other Wednesday evening for committee meetings, and then notify students the next day or Friday. I think there should be a committee meeting today if I do the calculations correctly. I'd say that if you haven't heard back by Friday it's really reasonable to write Dr. Dayton and ask. On our interview day, they did tell us we'd hear back, most of us, on January 29 so I think calling February 27 and asking is very fair.

Anyone who interviewed on 2/20 hear back yet? I know it's so soon but they told us a week and I still haven't heard.

Hi there--I think this is a bit of a common experience. Some hear within a week--and others hear much later. It's confusing b/c they do say the former. I think try to remember that the committee meets every other week and realize that it's fine to call them to ask when the next committee meeting is as some of us have done. They are so friendly!

Anyone who interviewed here have any feedback as to how the whole simulated patient encounter was?

This may have been already answered, but how will they get back to us about a decision? Is it mail or email post-interview? I also interviewed 2/20 and no response yet. Thanks!

I saw that Cooper gives six weeks devoted to step1 study time. Is it standard practice for med schools to devote this much time to this or is Cooper hoping for strong step1 scores to represent them as a new school?

They also is a brand new elementary school going up right next to Cooper and apartments they are renovating. Both will be done by summer. The immediate area surrounding the school looked decent

This isn't new....but thought it might be of interest to this thread:

I find it perplexing and somewhat alarming that the average cost of homes in that article are 180 to 220 k, when the median cost of homes in Camden is 55 k. Doesn't seem like folks who live there could ever afford to actually live in these communities. I always worry when gentrification creates islands of opportunity that don't benefit the wider community. Hopefully my worries are unfounded!

Is there a FB page yet for the Class of 2019?

Rejected post interview. Best of luck to the rest of you!

I wonder what the chances of getting pulled from priority WL this year are

Does anyone know if the priority wait list itself is ranked?

I believe b/c the split is 70/30 IS/OOS, you have a better chance of getting in off the HP WL if you are in-state. That is my guess. I checked back the posts from the previous 2 years, and it looks like there are folks on HP who didn't ever get in, and folks who moved from regular WL to HP and got in...so it's anyone's guess! Good luck!

Thanks! I'm OOS but am still hoping for the best!

i was on wait list at Jefferson and today i was accepted. i am choosing Jefferson and will withdraw my acceptance at cooper. one more space for those on wait list. good luck to everyone. my decision was made based on my needs to continue to do my research not that i didn't like Cooper. I think it is a great school, i was impressed.

Best of luck at Jefferson....and for letting those of us on the waitlist know!

Congrats to everyone who moved up from regular to priority wait list! I am just wondering if that means anyone has been pulled from the priority wait list for an acceptance. Could anyone confirm? I am anxiously waiting for some good news since cooper is my first choice!

I'm right there with you! No one has posted this yet so I don't think we know. I'm expecting honestly that after April 30, we should start to hear from the HP WL group. Good luck to you. Cooper is such a great school!

Right after I posted, I checked the threads from the two previous years. It looks like most of the wait list movement happens on May 15. Most of the people pulled off the wait list were accepted on May 15 and given 2 weeks to decide, after which another round of acceptances were made. By early June, most people on the wait list were given letters of regret.
