2014-2015 Cooper Medical School of Rowan University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I wish I could take time off from work!

I've wondered if schools send secondaries by batch, or what? And how often? Just thinking out loud, I know they're all very different... but I received a whole bunch the day after I was verified and then... kind of crickets chirping in my email inbox, right now. Haha.

I like the comparison hahahha thats how ive been feeling

Are update letters not accepted?

From an email I just received :
"We do not accept application materials, transcripts, or letters of recommendation outside of the AMCAS system"

Got the "AMCAS application received" email earlier this afternoon, got secondary a couple hours later!

So my AMCAS isn't verified yet(ready to review 6/25) but I already got an email from cooper saying they have received my application

Anybody else experience this?

I think they receive your contact info as long as you put their school down on your list. I got some secondaries before I was verified.

They probably just send both out in random batches (screened batches if secondary, I guess), because I got the secondary yesterday and the application received email today.

My AMCAS is verified, don't have an MCAT score yet- but they emailed me to let me know they have my app on file thus far.

Most send in batches because they download AMCAS applications in batches...every 2-3 days or weekly

anyone know how rigorous the screen is for secondaries?

finally got secondary, although I dont know whether to be excited since I dont know the screen.

Anyway, good prompts, kudos to you Cooper

My primary isn't verified yet (6/25), but Cooper also sent me that email that they see I'm applying but no secondary yet.

As you reflected on what to include in your personal statement to AMCAS, how did you decide which aspects of yourself to highlight?

My goal was to highlight experiences that informed my desire to become a physician, and which best prepared me to make that journey... should I go into specifics about each aspect of the PS? Seems like they just want me to rehash and elaborate on the personal statement?

(from pg 1... you can always search the thread)

· How is Camden, New Jersey either similar to or different from communities you have experienced? How do you believe that these factors will impact your medical education?

· In what way do you believe that you made an impact or difference to a school, job, organization, or person in your life?

· As you reflected on what to include in your personal statement to AMCAS, how did you decide which aspects of yourself to highlight?

· Which undergraduate course taught you the most about yourself? Please explain.

Thank you I forgot where they were and couldn't find them, I appreciate you actually taking the time to provide the answer!

I don't see a spot on the secondary to update our manuscript submissions that have been published. Do you guys think we can send a letter updating?

I'm not sure, but I"m guessing it's not too bad considering I got one today. I'm OOS 26 MCAT 3.9 GPA. I was verified yesterday. 🙂
When I called them a month ago, the admissions lady made it sound like they do a rigorous screen in which they go through all of your AMCAS(minus reccos)

Really? I do fit the mission perfectly, but I still thought I didn't have much of a chance considering my extremely low MCAT. Maybe I just got lucky.

I am the opposite got a MCAT 33 and an uGPA 2.78 gGPA ~3.8 and I got a secondary, I think they really screen students for fit and less for numbers.

Non-traditional student, OOS applicant. cGPA ~3.2 with a strong upward trend (1.0 in freshman year to 3.57 in sophomore year and subsequent years), MCAT<34. Received and submitted a secondary. Looks like they are screening for fit and reviewing holistically.

Can anyone break this down for me, it seems straightforward, but I don't know what they are asking?! AH I feel like a *****! -_-

When deciding on what to write for your personal statement, did you have more than one idea? More than one story to tell as to how you ended up pursuing medicine? If so, how/why did you decide on what you selected to write about in the end?
(Hope this helps! This is how I took it, at least)

Thanks! That helps 🙂

I've been all through Central America and done service work in Camden several times (including living there for a week). Given the choice, I'd choose to be dropped to my own devices in the middle of most third world countries before I was dropped in the middle of Camden. Luckily Cooper is pretty isolated, but I don't think many experiences can relate to that city

I received seconadries from here.. Applying IS 30 MCAT and 3.98 GPA! does anyone know what when would they start sending II?
Good luck everyone...

Does anyone know if they take writing intensive courses for the english requirement? That whole "If you upon review of your transcripts you are missing any prereqs we will light it on fire and throw it out the window" check box has me a bit worried.... I emailed them but they haven't answered yet so I was wondering if anyone's already contacted them.

Is anyone's lor taking a while to appear? Maybe they havent downloaded them yet?

They probs download them on a specific day each week. Next week I am going to call if they arent uploaded
