2014-2015 Cooper Medical School of Rowan University Application Thread

"Tell us something about you that does not come through in the AMCAS application. (1000 Char)"

Would this be a good place to talk about being a re-applicant and how I have improved my application? Is there somewhere on the secondary already to talk about that? Otherwise, I have a sort of canned response to this kind of essay ready.
I answered that by talking about some of my more personal characteristics, my professional and personal bucket list, and I let my real personality and sense of humor peek through. What I wrote came up in the interview a lot.

Good thing is this question was not asked on this year's secondary.

I called the admissions office and they told me that they have been getting many complaints about that subject. The lady told me to give it a couple of days and it did indeed appear

Congrats guys. Can we assume if we didn't get the II today that we are out?

I was complete the day after the secondary was released

Congrats to everyone who received the II!! Do you mind sharing your stats and the date you were completed? Plus, when are the interviews being scheduled for?

I don't think you can assume anything about II. They pop up when you least expect them.

So I used AP bio credit just for bio 1 lab and then AP english credit to avoid taking another english class (I know, I know, I should have just sucked it up and took the classes)...the website and secondary says they won't accept AP credit of any sort for these prereqs and will toss out your app if you check the box verifying you completed them when you actually haven't. I asked the admissions office if I would still be able to submit the secondary and have my app considered if I was planning on fulfilling these requirements before I graduate but I was just directed back to their requirements page and the FAQ which didn't really answer my question...so I was wondering: did anyone else run into this roadblock, and did you get a better answer than I did? I really want to apply to this school because I feel their mission really resonates with me, but their curt and rather unhelpful response to my question was a slightly off-putting...

how am i supposed to answer the 1st question if I have not been to Camden before?

Did you guys recieve a complete email after you submitted your secondary?

I am one of the underdogs on this website. I have a 28 MCAT and 3.95 GPA. However, my EC's are...well....they stand out. I have spent the past 11 years in and out of Iraq Afghanistan, Africa, and the PI treating patients, recovering sensitive items, setting up aid stations and so forth. Thus, I have a pretty unique job in the SOF community.

With that said, I by no means have received a ton of love from the rest of the schools I applied to. I have submitted 14 secondary applications at this point and CMSRU is the only school to show interest. As a result, I think if the interview goes well here and I get lucky enough to land an acceptance letter, I am going to accept. There is a lot to be said about a school that truly does look at applicants "holistically" vs. schools that say they do but still screen. I think CMSRU has an awesome program and I really appreciate the way they have centered their curriculum around community service. This country needs more institutions to follow the same logic. Medicine is about helping people not making money.

I submitted my secondary on July 23rd. However, I have submitted stuff to other schools as early as June 29th and have yet to hear anything back. This whole process is very confusing.

Always good to see another vet. Thanks for your service, and good luck on this crazy process.

no secondary :/ do they wait on letters of rec to send them?
I've seen you post this on a few threads - I can't even think of a school that screens exhaustively that requires LOR (they could exist, of course). just be patient

I think its just that I'm a non-traditional applicant and they want to see how I do in my SMP.

so you think they are waiting for your SMP, or you think they are waiting on LOR? confused

You know what's a really good thing? Being accepted and not having to answer any secondary questions ever again. (Who caaaaaares?)

Should I be concerned that I have not received any II (or rejections) despite applying early with good stats and a ton of ECs?

Tell us your story. There are schools that don't look at applicants with super high stats because the are less likely to attend.

3.7+/29 research, publication, shadowing and other ECs. I just want to know if this is a common theme or something is not right.

I would consider DO schools as well as I have the same stats and have a DO interview soon.

These sec app questions are gay as hell.. WTF

Watch the word gay in life bud
I work at an LGBT Community Center, and one of the biggest campaigns is getting the public to stop using "gay" as a synonym for "stupid," "dumb," or "annoying." Using it in that context signifies that being gay is stupid and unwanted.

Back on track, still nothing from Cooper!
