2014-2015 Cooper Medical School of Rowan University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I've gotten an email saying they received my secondary application on 7/24, but no complete email - should I be worried?

How long after submitting your primary did you guys get the secondary? It's been a bout a week and a few days since Ive been verified, and I understand they screen before sending secondaries. Just trying to get a rough estimate.

I got the acknowledgement receipt of my primary application July 14 and nothing since, but I am also OOS and insignificant stats.

I work at an LGBT Community Center, and one of the biggest campaigns is getting the public to stop using "gay" as a synonym for "stupid," "dumb," or "annoying." Using it in that context signifies that being gay is stupid and unwanted.

Back on track, still nothing from Cooper!

The word might end up becoming dissociated with the original meaning kind of like the word "******."

I added this school to my AMCAS app on 7/25 and have yet to receive any secondary. I knew it was a long-shot but I have gotten secondaries from other schools that screen so I was wondering about this one. (sGPA: 3.25; cGPA: 3.40; MCAT: 23)

I think they might screen below a 25.

They don't screen solely based on your MCAT and GPA. They review your full AMCAS application and then select applicants to receive a secondary. I believe they screen more for fit into the school's mission than anything else. I think this school lets you know if you don't receive a secondary, so it's possible they haven't gotten to your application yet. You can always call to make sure though.

Wait, so this school screens bf sending secondaries out??

My AMCAS was verified on 7/10 - I received the secondary on 7/13. Interestingly enough, I got the receipt email on 7/14 stating that applicants would be screened before getting sent a secondary, although I had already gotten one lol. Maybe they sent me one on accident? 😉

Primary Received Email: 7/14
Invitation for Secondary: 7/17

The primary received email you guys received is actually from amcas or cooper?

I was wondering the same thing...I have yet to receive any email from the school itself but when I added it to my AMCAS I got an email that it had been sent to Cooper.

Wow im happy that im not screened with a 6 on verbal.

Haha I have a 6 in verbal too so I'm with you there! Good thing is that I called them, and turns out, they don't consider subscores. They'll just look at our composite, so that makes things a little bit better even though my composite still isn't competitive.

Have any of you seen the videos of Cooper on youtube? Watching the white coat ceremonies is very interesting.

Wow they dont look at subscores? that is awesome for me 31 (12/6/13). I'm really interested in going to this school so that just came to me as really good news! 🙂

Verbal sucks, doesn't it?? I'm sorry to hear about your 6 in verbal, but yes, your composite is competitive so MCAT-wise, you're good!

As a current student, this is not true. Your entire score will be considered including the low verbal. The school however, is very holistic with your application and will look at the whole package. It is a fantastic school with absolutely amazing faculty and resources so if you are accepted don't miss out on the opportunity to attend!

Oh wait, are you sure? That's odd because I called the admissions office to ask about my low verbal, and they told me that it wouldn't matter because they don't consider subscores at all.

I've been complete for over a month and still have not gotten a secondary 🙁

Has anyone heard back after waiting this long? Did they end up sending you a secondary or rejection?

Also has anyone called the office about this? I'm inclined to but don't want to come off as impatient haha.

A 12 and a 13 are great scores! Just keep your head up, I have friends that got into medical schools with low verbals. Do you speak any other languages?

I speak basic italian and spanish, but not fluent. That 6 came as a shock to me because I was scoring 9's on the AAMC's, but i'll live with it. Hopefully someone will be forgiving and give me a shot

like I said everything is looked at as a whole application. A score that low in verbal would seriously weaken your chances with the caliber of applicants. Last year there was over 75 applicants for one seat.

Yeah, I understand that; I'm just curious where you're getting the information from. Was it from the admissions office as well? It sucks that they're giving us mixed answers. Maybe they considered subscores last cycle, but not this one? I'm so confused.

Anyone still haven't gotten the secondary? I haven't received it even though I got it last year...and my MCAT went up from a 26 --> 30 this year

Edit* original post was for a different thread. I've been complete since 7/24 and haven't heard anything yet..

Same, pre-interview rejection ): OOS, LizzyM 69-70
Good luck to everyone with interviews, and everyone who's still in the game! Cooper looks like an incredible school, and I'm glad they are looking at applications for fit so closely! The class of 2019 is going to be seriously amazing here

Rejected :-\ Best of luck to everyone else currently in the running!

I got the rejection email today.

In state, 37 MCAT, 3.9 GPA.
