2014-2015 Cooper Medical School of Rowan University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just got rejected, finished my secondary early September...but I'm surprised to be honest. My MCAT was 38, GPA 3.8 sGPA 3.9

U were already rejected?

Yep. In-state applicant with O.K. stats....expected at least an II. I had a friend last year with a much lower GPA and MCAT and no EC's to his name get one.

This is actually my first rejection that hurts a little because I really thought the school was a good fit for me and vice versa
same :[ actually this is my first rejection, period

I'm guessing a rejection is imminent for me. Was complete late July, early August. Any day now. :/

Rejected. Like a lot of you I felt I was a good fit for the school but given my uGPA a rejection isn't that surprising. Good luck for everyone else

You mind sharing when you were complete? I'm wondering where they are with our apps...

I can't remember exactly but it was around mid/late August.

Seems like this school really really care more about how fit applicants are for their school than GPA + MCAT.
My friend got rejected with 4.0 GPA 40 MCAT lol.

Well duh, they know a 4.0 GPA 40 MCAT is probably not going to go to their school. They're not stupid.

cute icon btw

Not really. It is his top choice because his house is 2 min away from it lmao.

Aw, well that is kind of crappy from that perspective actually. Oh well, I guess it's the nature of the game. I'm sure he'll get into some great schools worth leaving his house for lol

They email you to say you've been rejected

Right, but I was wondering if I can catch it as an application status before they send the email. I haven't heard anything from them, even though I was also complete around mid-August, so I was getting antsy =\ Thanks!

+1

Does anyone know how they feel about email updates?

This is what they have in their FAQ:
"How do I update my contact information once my application is complete?
Updated contact information should be submitted to AMCAS only. Our system will pull in the updated AMCAS data automatically. Mid-cycle grade updates or additional activity statements are not accepted. Final transcripts verifying graduation should be sent by July 1 prior to matriculation."

has anyone who went complete during this month of September received a decision yet (II or rejection). Just trying to gauge what the avg lag time is currently???

I was complete on 08/17 and still haven't heard anything, although it looks like many people get some form of communication within a month of completion.

Complete 8/18 and haven't heard anything either. Since they do reject people before March, I'm going to go with no news is good news 🙂

Haha, I want to think that, too! But I'm wondering if they have a different person/committee looking at OOS applications, which might explain why I haven't heard back yet. Maybe a separate committee for OOS might move a bit slower. Are you also OOS?

Hmmm...that could be it. Although I think there were a few OOS people who got interviews about a month after submitting their secondary (not entirely sure, I don't feel like going through all the posts lol)...but maybe you're right! In which case no news is good news for now! And yes I'm OOS from Cali!

Rejected today. Secondary application complete on September 15th. 3.35cGPA, 32 MCAT (14BS/8VR/10PS), research, extensive clinical experience (9+months as a Scribe and shadowing), extensive volunteering (clinical and non-clinical), extensive leadership experience (SGA, VP of Fraternity, medical organization, etc), OOS, and compelling life-story. lol, rejection letter was funny; essentially, thanks for the $50 don't contact us to ask why you were rejected... At least they were quick in reviewing the app and making a decision.

I found the rejection letter a little harsh, too Haha Oh well.

September 15th? haha talk about a quick turnaround

Congrats!! Hahah seems like they skipped over the mid-August people :meh:

Yea. I just hope they re-review us before the end of the year. I really think I'll be a great fit here. If anyone receives an interview invite that submitted in early to mid August, please post here and keep the faith alive!

This school apparently rejects before March, so I'm hoping that maybe they aren't going in order of completion?? LOL trying to make myself feel better..I can't wait until the end of the year to hear back...I definitely thought I was a good fit too!

Where is the justice in denying IIs for qualified and overqualified in-state students?

Cooper should consider itself lucky that I don't hang them for treason.

Your entitlement shows why you should be rejected. Nobody is entitled to go to medical school. There are many very qualified people here. Having a class full of people with 40 MCAT and 4.0s makes for a crappy enviornment to learn. There is much more to making a competent and caring physician.

Calm down dude, I was mostly joking (I guess you don't watch Game of Thrones). But I wanted to point out that Cooper's admission process seems more unpredictable than others (based on what people are saying in this thread) and applicants who got rejected with outstanding stats shouldn't be too upset because they are clearly looking for a particularly unique trait- traits that may or may not be an accurate indicator of a caring and competent physician.

And no, I wasn't rejected... Yet. However, the fact that you're a medical student there and you made such quick assumptions about me over a Game of Throne reference makes me less optimistic about the students there in general.
