2014-2015 Cooper Medical School of Rowan University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Calm down dude, I was mostly joking (I guess you don't watch Game of Thrones). But I wanted to point out that Cooper's admission process seems more unpredictable than others (based on what people are saying in this thread) and applicants who got rejected with outstanding stats shouldn't be too upset because they are clearly looking for a particularly unique trait- traits that may or may not be an accurate indicator of a caring and competent physician.

And no, I wasn't rejected... Yet. However, the fact that you're a medical student there and you made such quick assumptions about me over a Game of Throne reference makes me less optimistic about the students there in general.

You are greatly exaggerating that you think I am angry. My pt was that there are other traits that make a great medical student. And no I do not wish GOTs but I probably should.

A few minor changes were made over the summer regarding grading (still P/F) such as remediation and in the second year certain blocks were broken up, but essentially everything is together intact. By your year there will have been three years going through and I highly doubt there will be anything worth worrying about. Also you are required to do surveys on courses and professors constantly (almost too much) so they know what's working and what's not, you have class liasions that meet regularly with the administration to voice your concerns (and yes they fix things quickly no matter how small), and in your advisory colleges there is another venue to voice your concerns. Of course you can always directly speak up!

Definitely had a dream last night where I finally got my rejection email from Cooper 8\

In last year's thread you said the student's complain secretly about not being happy. That is definitely not true in my class. In fact, I can't really think of anything in the curriculum that I don't like. It looks like it was thought out beautifully and thus far I love medical school. It may have been true in the first class, but us being the third year all the kinks have been worked out in our year at least. i know everyone complains about everything. no one is happy, or i should say, most people are not happy with what they have. i was told that the first year was expecting cooper to continue the same curriculum the had before when they were affiliated to UMDNJ and the change cause the disappointment. unfortunately for the first class they were the guinea pigs of a new formed med school. i am sure things are better now. received my II. it seems that the school doesn't want to take chances with the applicant with great stats so i may have a chance there. MCAT 29, GPA 3.5 and i definitely fit the mission being an underrepresented minority in state.

Aww man. There seems to be some confusion. II = Interview Invite, not secondary.

It's a common confusion on SDN. It's all good, though.

any OOS complete late august hear anything yet??

I am actually really late in the cycle. I am OOS and completed in Late August and submitted my Secondary last week (begining of October lol - I was busy working). 30 Mcat; 3.5 Sci GPA; 3.0 Ov GPA.

Amazed and so excited that I received an interview! GPA ~3.3 with rather grisly academic record. MCAT 35+ and good ECs however. OOS non-URM.

Does anyone know roughly how many interviewed and got accepted in the last years?
Also, current students, can you offer any advice on how you would prepare for the interview?

Also, is there an option to stay with a student? I didn't see such option on the invite.

Thanks!

II today!!! IS non URM, 3.6 cGPA, 3.4 sGPA, 30 MCAT, decent ECs. was complete 9/12.

What dates are still available????

I didn't get to see the entire spread but no dates in November, one date in December (I quickly grabbed that one), and every friday on January. Didn't look beyond that. Has anyone interviewed at Cooper yet?

I received an II today, and am very happy! I was complete on 9/6, and received the II via email. I'm a bit confused because you cannot just go automatically on to sign up for an interview, you need to respond to an email which then allows you to sign up?

so respond?
Of course! I responded-but wasn't directed to the online interview scheduler...thus, the confusion! Did you hear back yet @rafterman ? Mostly I'm curious to know the dates to coordinate as I have very long flights from my current location.

Yay I got an interview invite! I'm OOS I've been homeless on the streets during high school so maybe my compelling story got me through. 🙂

But last year they started receiving them after midnight on October 16 because October 16 was the first possible day to release acceptances. Since this year the first possible day is October 15, if it were like last year, we would have already heard.

Interesting, any acceptances anyone?

Are you certain about that? From what i gathered last year the first time for notification was the 15th as well/
