2014-2015 Louisiana State University - Shreveport Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Did anyone who interviewed so far feel as though your interviewer never asked questions about why medicine or why a physician and only focused on your activities?

they did focus more on my activities but i got why medicine from Dr. Kennedy. i did get asked "why shreveport?" though, so be prepared with an answer for that.

Has anyone that has been accepted to the early decision program receive an email for a criminal background check?

So does interviewing this early mean anything? Like is there maybe a higher chance of acceptance for interviewees in this first batch? A medical student told me that but it could just be talk. I interview next week btw.

Shreveport accepts most of their kids before Christmas. Nola is the exact opposite. Early interviews are a very good sign here, I got an acceptance letter in the mail almost immediately

So if we don't get an II before December for Shreveport, most likely, we won't get in?

I was accepted last week as well. Shreveport is the opposite of New Orleans. It definitely benefits you to be early with Shreve more so than N.O although it's not automatically shutting you out if you interview later, there are many people that will be accepted multiple places and then people will be taken from the wait list.

Shreveport's waiting list moves quite a bit though. We had a few people come in during orientation.

And if you don't get in, don't panic.

If this is something you want to pursue, reapply. One year won't kill you, but biochem might. Be prepared.

So glad that's over.

I've heard it's better to interview early. The list of applicants reviewed by the admissions committee only increases as time and interview dates go by so the earlier you interview, the more competitive you'll be.

Received an Interview Invite today. Seems like they sent a large batch out bc the date priority list went from Dec to Feb

Hello,

I am an MSI at this school, and I'd be willing to answer any questions that you may have about the cycle, starting school, life after starting school, or questions about the area.

Good luck with your applications, and congrats to those already accepted.

So how's school going for you?

So how's school going for you?

It's going. I'm passing everything, but it's definitely a humbling experience. If you don't stay on top of things, you can get behind very quickly. I love where I'm at and would not change a thing if that's what you're referring to.

The tests have a ton of material on them: literally 3-5 thousand PowerPoint slides per test. It's all doable, you just have to put the work in.

Is there any reason we should choose shreveport over new orleans?

We all have our reasons for picking and choosing, but I like the smaller class size, podcasting (all lectures are recorded and podcasted so attendance isn't required for most lectures), not having to deal with tons of traffic, and living expenses are less than New Orleans.

My list of priorities are different than yours, you could probably be happy at either place, but Shreveport fit me best.

Good. I just wanted a follow up as I have read some of your posts. I hope you realize now what it means to be a physician even though you are still a tadpole. There was a thread where you discussed CRNA's where I did not agree with your point.

So can we discuss the acceptable list? Does it really flow as much as they say?

Dr. Kennedy told us during interview day that they got it down to 6 people last year, so almost everybody that got put on the acceptable list ended up getting accepted.

He also said that he called someone the night before orientation and told them if they could be at the med school at 8 am the next day, they were going to med school. So like others have said, it moves very late for some people.

I worked with this guy that whole summer. It was pretty crazy how suddenly it all changed for him with one phone call haha

Person literally showed up as we were taking our class picture.

I've been on the acceptable list since the second interview round during early decision. Name of the game is patience apparently 😉

Has anyone with a 30+ MCAT not heard anything from this school??

Yeah. Me. Got a 30 on my MCAT, 3rd time applicant, and haven't gotten an interview yet. I'm pretty bummed. Last year and the year before I was interviewed in January.

Well thats kinda weird

So has anyone on the wait list gotten off of it yet? Either through acceptance or rejection?

Facebook is getting a little busy with people hearing from Shreveport. Apparently some people got accepted today. Congrats if you're one!

Now if only I'd hear from them with an interview offer...

From the waitlist or what? Phone/letter?

Does Shreveport reply with a confirmation after you notify them about accepting their offer?

Yep. 33/3.5 is and haven't heard a peep aside from their status emails.

Did you get an interview at all or are you still waiting?

Also, to anyone.. Does anyone know if anyone has been taken off the Waitlist through Acceptance/Rejection yet? I have heard they are not looking at the list again until after January but I don't know if that is for sure.

No. Have not heard anything. No non-automated correspondence.

In the past, there's only been movement on the waitlist after April.

That's weird, kids with 25 MCATs and decent GPAs are getting interviews left and right....my MCAT was only a 28 and I got in over 2 months ago...

No felonies right? Are you sure your LOR are solid?
