I was complete Aug 25 and received an invite Sept 9 if that helps any.

Congrats to those getting accepted! I just received a RD ii. I have already scheduled to interview in Savannah in November since my sister lives there and I can stay with her before the interview. I am curious if anyone could tell me some differences between the Macon and Savannah campuses. Mercer's site has a few things, but I cannot find anything that really helps me decide which campus I would like to attend. Can you guys give me any suggestions? Also for anyone interested, UGA grad with cGPA 3.77, sGPA 3.73, and 32 MCAT

RD II received today!!! So excited!!!

STATS:

cGPA: 3.89
sGPA: 3.84
MCAT: 32

Earliest interview was in Savannah December 2nd.

What I did was interview at Savannah and did a tour afterward in Macon. Basically, the Savannah campus is located on the hospital campus. The facilities available aren't as extensive as in Macon, ie. much smaller library, hospital gym(tiny) and way smaller tutor rooms. Upside- it's right next to the hospital and it's in freakin Savannah. Macon campus has an entire dedicated medical building with a much larger library and tutor rooms, as well as access to all of the undergrad facilities (massive gym and football season). All the advantages of a wealthy undergraduate institution but everything you need is in your own building on its own part of campus. It all depends on your preferences. I chose Macon and am very happy with the decision but i would suggest touring both and drawing your own conclusions.

Thanks for the summary. That's definitely a good idea to just tour at the opposite campus that I interview from. I'll have to set up a tour in Macon after my interview.

Have any accepted applicants received the letter packet in the mail? Still looking out for mine...

no, i haven't received it yet either. but i creeped through last years thread and it seemed like it was mid-october before ED people received theirs...my background check's still in progress too although it's already past the 5 business days mark.

It is actually great to see the lack of a trend for time between IIs and completed secondaries. Thanks for the help all.

I haven't received my acceptance letter either. Completed my background check already though.

Received a RD ii today!! Secondary completed in July.

I just sent them an update letter 3 days ago. So maybe it helped?

One hell of an update! Ha ha. Who knows? Congratulations though!

does anyone know if we're supposed to get some kind of confirmation that they've received the forms/deposit check?

I was wondering the same thing.
Yeah, I emailed Ms. Spear last week asking if she received mine but haven't received a response yet. I slipped the envelope into her mailbox myself though bc I live near the campus...but I'm just imagining all the worst case scenarios haha.

Any confirmation yet that site preferences have been received?

Anyone interviewing 11/20? Look forward to meeting all of you then!

Congratulations to everyone who got accepted to Mercer Med!
I have my interview at mercer, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what a typical interview day looks like at Mercer. I know that it is two 30min interviews, but not much more than that.

thanks so much in advance and have a great afternoon!

Well the day starts at 9 which is conveniently late so you can rest a little. Make sure you eat breakfast because they don't do the typical nutrigrain bars and coffee thing like other schools, so I was starving before my first interview. You have a meeting about the process and financial aid until around 10 and then your first interview. You may go straight to your second interview or you may have an hour break (you can get a coffee and relax). If you have the break this means your second interview is at 2:30, but if you have the second interview immediately, it means you can leave after lunch. Then an hour tour and an hour lunch and perhaps a second interview. It is suupper duupper chill. Just relax and enjoy the day.

FIY Margaritas (on campus) has really awesome pre or post interview mexican food. Highly recommend.

Edit: They are both open file. One is with an admissions committee member (could be a student) and the other with a faculty or student not on the committee. They give an excellent synopsis of their acceptance policy and timeline.

I may be a little late to the party, but I can tell you some about Savannah.
The Savannah campus is currently a lot smaller than Macon, but they did just start renovating everything. Literally everything. We are getting new tutor rooms, a new library, a new clinical skills building. Anything that you might have seen on a tour will be obsolete in the next year. There is an article on it here: http://news.mercer.edu/articles/201...expansion-of-savannah-campus.cfm#.VFqEgvTF-uh
Savannah has the beach, which is nice. We go to a lot of Sandgnats games during baseball season. We have Forsyth Park and Daffin Park, which are great for studying, people watching, lurking other people's dogs, or finding any kind of pickup game you could ever dream up. I've seen everything from ultimate to rugby to yoga and zumba going on in the park. Savannah also has this sweet little bouldering gym if you're into rock climbing. The downtown scene is pretty nice, with some pretty unique restaurants and River Street.

Either way you decide, you'll still be happy. MUSM has some of the best faculty any med student could ever ask for, and in terms of facilities, it's roughly the same (or will be once they finish the expansion). If you need anything else, feel free to ask!
Thanks for the reply! New facilities is a big plus. I will keep that in mind on my tour. From what I have seen, Savannah is a beautiful city and would be a great place to live for four years. It sounds like there are some great things to do there as well. I am looking for stuff like that to do outdoors to keep me sane in between studying. That bouldering gym would be somewhere I would definitely spend some time. But overall, I guess I will see both campuses and just go wherever would fit me the best. I'll let you know if I have any more questions.

Thank you so much for your kind and detailed reply. Good luck to you with the decision at Mercer.
Hope you have a wonderful day!

Hello everyone! I recently submitted and received an interview to Mercer SOM! So excited! I have a low MCAT score (24) so you can imagine I was floored when I received an interview. My interview is scheduled for Jan 22 @9AM in Savannah were I live. I grew up in the small rural town of Cochran, GA and I regularly go home and shadow primary care physicians there. I have a 3.76 sGPA and 3.63 cGPA majoring in cell biology with minors in neuroscience and chemistry. I also am a Marine veteran with physical therapy aide, medicinal chemistry, and health and wellness experiences. What can I expect at my interview? I would appreciate any and all pointers you guys could provide.

Thanks

Completed secondary on 11/10. Recieved interview 11/12.

I wouldn't be too surprised to get an interview! Mercer interviews around 45% of all secondaries! They are truly one of the few medical schools that looks at the applicant as a whole! My interview is actually Thursday :O yikes...but congrats on the II!!

Well, adcom apparently meets tomorrow to decide on some acceptances. Guess I'll be obsessively staring at my phone until late Thursday.

Does anyone have any general advice for interviews at Mercer? This will be my first MD interview and I don't really know what to expect other than, "Why do you want to be a doctor?" or "Why do you think Mercer is the right school for you?"

Thanks in advance.

Other than the often warm friendly smiles and a firm handshake...I'm going on a limb tomorrow! What I've done to prepare myself is looked over my AMCAS application, secondary, and re-read my personal statement. After you've done that, I believe it is being honest with yourself and convincing the adcom that you are someone who can become a doctor (get through the academic rigors of medical school, speak emphatically and able to convey empathy, and frankly, be a HUMAN BEING). Patients want to speak with someone who empathizes with their symptoms, but is also confident and communicates effectively. And do the obvious...look up school characteristics..curriculum, mission, opportunities, residency placements...and convince them you are the right person for all of the above. I know it's easier said than done, but just relax and be yourself and you'll find a way!
