2014-2015 Stanford University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Waitlisted and heartbroken. Letter dated 2/2/15.

So far it seemed that the decisions have been coming out in a steady stream...I knew acceptances have been going out here and there. Stanford isn't admitting all that many students, so I doubt there will be a "wave".

Sorry to hear that. 🙁 Can I ask when you interviewed?

By "wave" I meant a wave of post-interview decisions, not necessarily acceptances, haha. I heard mid-Feb was when another batch of decisions would come out, and based on last year's thread, that seems accurate?

Sure. October.
Of the people who interviewed with me.
1+ acceptance received(s) in Dec.
2 WL in Jan
2 WL in Feb.
So as you see it's a continuing process.

🤣I'm really honored to be interviewing here this upcoming week. Does anyone have any tips they would like to share? Anything you wish someone would have passed along to you before your interview day?

Does anyone have an idea of how many students are on the waitlist. I remember on the interview day, they said that there are ~180 acceptances out of the 450 interviews. I assume this includes waitlist acceptances?

Not sure whether that includes waitlist. Seem to recall an M1 saying that there weren't many acceptances from the WL last year.

Congrats, and good luck. Try to enjoy the MMIs and smile. And talk to as many students as you can -- in my experience, everyone I spoke to was really cool and chill -- since I felt they gave me the best information about the school.

Last year was weird in that too many people accepted offers the year before, and so they had a lot of people defer and thus had fewer seats to fill to begin with. I believe they're being a bit more cautious this time around.

Still genuinely surprised I haven't been rejected here yet. Chance of an interview is highly unlikely given my stats not sure why they're holding onto my app still.
I feel the same!! I was visiting a friend a few days ago who happens to live a few blocks away, and I must say that I'd thought to walk over there and ask them myself 😛

I hear ya. The only thing I can think is that they're holding onto my application because of my copious research -- I know they look at the stats and wince a little. I'm not actively anticipating an interview, so I'm always a little stunned (and relieved) when checking my empty mailbox.

Has anyone actually gotten a pre-interview rejection?

Due to finances, I don't think I would spend the money to attend any other potential interviews that I may get offered at this point in time. However, I think I would empty the piggy bank for you, Stanford. Just let that sink in...

I was telling people this exact thing earlier.

Maybe they'll take notice..

What if it takes you to sign a legally binding document to name your first child Stanford to get that interview? :cat:

If it's a boy, I think Stanford Ray _____ has a nice ring to it. Not so sure if it's a girls name though

Are they taking kidney donation for interviews these days?

@AMPK, I don't think so, but if you're willing to donate a kidney, you should be an altruistic donor and participate in a domino donor chain somewhere

Have there been any recent acceptances?

Ill look into it. But that still doesn't solve the interview problem.

It's a bit difficult to tell from the fractured responses, but have we survived 1 or 2 rounds of rejections?

Also, every time I hear my email alert on my phone:

Looks like I made it past the last round of rejections, but still nothing but silence since July. Stanford, my firstborn is yours if only I could get a shot at an interview. lol

When was the "last round"? I know there was one around early-mid January...

also interviewed 12/15. didnt hear anything D:

I want to go here so badly and no love.... should have done research in undergrad I guess.

did anyone who interviewed 1/16 hear back yet?
interviewed same day and haven't heard anything yet. But they did say that the earliest we would hear back is end of February. But I bet it will be even longer since 12/15 students seem to not have heard back yet either

I heard Stanford is notorious for silent rejections. And I've heard stories of people receiving a rejection letter after they are already in classes elsewhere.

If that's true--and it may be--then why have so many already received official rejection letters?

Maybe they didnt want to waste additional paper on us, given that they are located in california.

Psh. As a re-homed California resident, I'm offended by their disinterest in donating paper to the cause of my rejection. Hmph.

Does anybody know why they insist on snail mailing rejections? It just seems so inefficient...😵
