1. Though this is not an essay, it's a question with 2 lines for response:

Although interests may change, what areas of medicine are you primarily interested in at the present time?

2. OPTIONAL ESSAY (500 words maximum; typed on a separate sheet)

The learning community at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine benefits from the inclusion of students with broad life experiences, as well as students from diverse backgrounds. The Admissions Committee encourages you to share life experiences that you may have had and/or important factors in your background that illustrate your readiness for practicing medicine in a multicultural society.

Good luck to everyone applying! :luck:

I'm applying here this cycle. I'm really excited about this school! Are there any current medical students willing to dish out some secondary/interview advice? Especially OOS students?

Anybody applying Early Decision to South?

Received my secondary today from South. Verified 6/25. There is one optional essay of 500 words. The prompt is:

Just received my secondary. OOS (Tennessee but a stone's throw from Huntsville) cGPA 3.6, sGPA 3.5, 33 MCAT. I'm probably wasting my money, but let's do this thing!

Space reserved for prompt.

Please PM the essays or lack thereof to me when the secondary is available and I will update this.

Good luck to everyone applying! :luck:
I didn't know how to PM. Feel free to delete this, though. I started a conversation, not sure if that's the same.

Over-nighted my secondary to USA this morning. Anybody think their packet will beat mine?😏

Anybody else get the complete e-mail today?

I am applying early decision... but I am worried. My composite MCAT score is above the cutoff of 27 (12/ 7/ 10) BUT my verbal is abysmal. Last year's MCAT I got an 8 in verbal, but did worse on the sciences...

My gpa is a 3.7, and everything else in my application is solid. Will a bad verbal drastically lower my chances, despite having an over-the-cutoff composite score?

A friend of mine was accepted into South early decision last year with a composite of a 29 with not a great verbal. However, I would be a bit cautious about applying early. I was going to apply early UASOM but had some friends talk me out of it. If you do not get in early, you will be way behind in applying to other schools after finding out your decision. It's a bit of a gamble, but if you want to do it go for it

wow I do not know why it made that all a quote. sorry about that.

I'm willing to take the risk. I figure if I cannot get in early USA, I wouldn't be able to regular decision. Since I will figure out by October 1st, I will know what to do by then.

I will apply to DO schools next yr if I cannot get in South this time around

Anyone have any input on turn around time from verification to receiving the secondary? I got verified this morning!

Well, I was verified around 9 EST this morning, and got the secondary email around 3:30 PM EST! Finally getting this process rolling! I plan on sending it on Monday, and calling my prehealth committee and finding out why, exactly, my committee interview was in early May, and I've yet to have my letters delivered to AMCAS...

Anybody else besides coolcucumber91 applying Early Decision?

Does early decision give you an upper hand? I'm applying next cycle and South is my #1. Applying ONLY to South makes me nervous though.

This is my personal opinion but I don't think early decision can hurt...if anything it can boost your chances at that TARGET school school BUT overall it hurts bc if you do not get accepted, you will be late in applying to other schools. I've also heard that it is harder to get in ED so I can't tell you a definite answer. Reason I am applying ED is bc I want to find out soon to see if I have to retake MCAT or not. I am fine taking another year off. Best thing to do is to ask around in SDN.

Reapp here, applied for early decision at South. I didn't do early last time, but I feel like I narrowed down my preference to South on this second attempt.

Exactly the same case for me as well

what did everyone list as the area of medicine that they are primarily interested in? Two lines just isnt enough space for me.

I just put down 3 things. Also, I mailed my secondary last week on Thursday but I still haven't got a secondary confirmation email. How long did it take you guys to get an email?

I sent in my secondary last thursday as well, it got there on saturday, and i just received my conformation email today.

Accepted yesterday!!! Fourth time applying (1st time as Early Decision), so this has been a long time coming for me.

Have you been accepted as well?
What are their interview dates?

Yes, I was early decision as well. We interviewed this Wednesday. They are on Wednesdays normally every other week I believe with more interviews after the new year.

Anyone else get an Interview invite?

Got an ii last Friday for the 22nd doe

Has anyone in-state ,that completed secondary when it first came out, not received an interview invite yet like me?

For anyone wondering, I was told by the Dean of Admissions that USA sends out interview invites pretty much in the order that applications are completed.

I haven't received an interview invite either, and I returned the secondary pretty much as soon as it came out.

Has anyone that wasn't early decision received an acceptance letter?

I'm in the same boat. Would LOVE to hear whether or not USA (my 1st choice) has accepted any/many regular admission applicants.

They told us they'll send out acceptances the first week of November

Will be starting here in august, good luck to everyone applying!
