2014-2015 University of California - Irvine Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think UC Irvine might come out this week based off of last year. Any ideas or confirmations?

anyone got a secondary? I didnt but it was released today in the past 2 years.

Received an email confirming receipt of my primary app. Had to log on to find out that I was also granted a secondary app.

Secondary received. IS - Verified 6/12

Looking at last years thread, post-secondary rejections come out pretty fast! YIKES... the good news is II's go out pretty fast also. A lot of movement will happen in the next few weeks. Best of luck all!

Is it worth applying to PRIME-LC if you don't speak spanish?

From what I found, in 2012-2013, 55% of people who applied received secondaries. 18% of people who received secondaries received interviews (10% of people who applied overall).
thanks a bunch!!! 🙂

I don't think so... I believe it says you will be tested in conversational Spanish if you interview for PRIME

drat damn it 🙁. these prime programs are my bread and butter.

Ya, to verify...

"To be considered for the PRIME-LC program, you should be conversational in Spanish and have a demonstrated record of service to the underserved communities. If selected for an interview, your schedule will include an interview that will evaluate your Spanish communication skills."

quick, move to mexico and learn spanish, stat!

lol or i could listen to telemundo 24/7. too bad knowing italian doesnt count as knowing spanish 😡.

Re-applicants: are you re-writing this secondary? My response to both questions would be the same as it was last year, but I'm not sure if it's bad form to simply cut and paste.

add like a sentence if you can if not, you did what you can. i wouldnt worry too much about it as long as your primary app is diff.

Does anyone know how to UCI screens? Is it stats or did they actually go through our entire primary applications?

Blerg. I received the application received email, but not secondary yet (checked status).

i was verified 7/3 and have not received a confirmation email--- how long did it take for that?

I'm not sure how the screening works, because I received the secondary 1 minute after the receipt of application. Anyone have any thoughts?

How long did it take to get a receipt of your application though?

I was verified June 12, so my application was transmitted to medical schools on the first day (I think it was June 27). I received both the receipt of the application and secondary today.

As someone who has thoroughly reviewed ucsf's thread from last cycle, this is the same thing that happened to most applicants there last year. Some people got both received email and secondary email at the same tome while some got them spread out and the theory is that it depends upon the reviewers

Virology is a subdiscipline of microbiology so I'm think micro will count.

I am a non-trad and have not taken an upper division bio course yet. Do I have to "pick one" now to report or can I just put Upper Division Biology Class, expected completion May 2015

Another Question...

If I talked about a major change in my life and how it influenced my decision to pursue medicine in my PS, is it a bad idea to use it for the "challenge you have overcame" secondary question? I have a few other things I can write about, but it is dwarfed in comparison. I do not want admissions to think I am being redundant, but at the same time, I don't want them to think I am trying to ignore what I discussed in the PS.

Thanks!
