I'm going to be coming to San Diego a few days early, does anyone from the area have any suggestions on what to do or where to stay on a budget?

stuff to do: explore the beaches, downtown san diego, downtown la jolla, go to the 2 zoos, explore ucsd undergrad campus and check out the hospitals (won't get a chance for that during interview day), check out Pacific beach pubs at night if you're in to the nightlife scene

place to stay: hotels in La Jolla are expensive. Mira Mesa or Clairemont mesa probably have the cheaper hotels although you'd need a car to get around.

I was just placed on hold too! My heart almost stopped when I saw the email because I thought it was going to be a rejection. Does this mean we won't hear anything else until the end of January or could it be sooner?

+1 very happy to be put on hold and not rejected. They can take their time!

Yes, got the on hold email. They specifically ask not to send any updates or additional letters. There were a few people last year who made it off from hold to interview but the majority ended up with rejections. And yes, I don't think we will hear anything until January.

If you have time, you may want to dig through last year's thread - they had the rejection/hold numbers. I am afraid that actually most people were put on the hold pile and eventually rejected in Jan. Of course, I'll take that over a straight rejection, but the chances after the hold are not great.

Anyone still waiting for a secondary? Submitted my apps in June but took the MCAT in July so my app wasn't complete until 8/26. I got a secondary almost immediately from UCSF and nothing from SD!

Last year, the mass holds went out in late November and several SDNers got II's on Dec 18th, followed by rejections in late January.

Glad to be put on hold instead of a flat out rejection. This is an awesome school. Hopefully we get some movement off the list in December everyone! It sounds like the do reject people according the the email.

" Our Recruitment and Admissions Committee has completed its review of your application. The Committee initially makes one of three decisions. Applicants may be invited for an interview, placed on “hold” for an interview, or receive no further consideration for an interview.

You have been placed on “hold” for an interview. Our Committee will again review the applications of those on “hold” for an interview by late January 2015. We anticipate that additional interview offers will be extended at that time, but we are unable to assess/approximate the likelihood for any individual applicant. "

Got an email today saying I received a "Hold for interview". They said that they will reconsider my application before January to make the final decision on whether or not they want to interview me. Bad news: it is not an II. Good news: It is not a rejection either. Just more of the same game: WAITING 🙄
