2014-2015 University of California - San Diego Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have a question about the "meaningful experiences" section of this app. I got a committee letter from my university, so I technically only have one 'author' for my letter. However, in the back of the committee letter, there are individual letters from my professors, etc. that I gave to the committee to write my committee letter. One of those individual letters corresponds to a "meaningful experience," but I don't know if I should list that author's name because it is only found in the back of the whole letter, and that name is not listed on AMCAS as a letter being sent to UCSD. (Sorry this is confusing to explain lol)

Any advice on how to fill this out so that it is least confusing for admissions? I emailed them over a week ago and they haven't responded 🙁

are we notified if we are complete to ucsd? there is no place for "LORs" having been received on the status page. or do they already start reviewing our apps for interview consideration before the receipt of our LORs?

Incoming MS1 here - good luck everyone! Can try to answer questions about the application process.

Got an interview. This is my first one, I'm really surprised (especially as a re-applicant)! This is really a cathartic moment for me, this means that my application is OK (i.e. no crazy red flags)

~75 LizzyM score

Edit: IS, UCSD Undergrad

Sweet work! 😀 Ahhh you guys are going to have brilliant time in La Jolla. Definitely envious.

Out of typical SDN neuroticism, were you all UCSD alumni? It seems like some schools like to make their first day of IIs a treat for previous students. 😉

I think that's one of the reasons why I got an II since the adcoms know all my LoR writers haha

Seems you're right, I was a UCSD undergrad

Congrats everyone! I completed on the same day, but didn't get any. I wish I just had one interview from anywhere... :'(

Concur here. Complete with all secondaries since mid-July, but no medical school has given me an II (or a rejection). I am in an endless perpetual "review" zone right now.

II First one! OOS. 33 MCAT 4.0 GPA
Interviewing on Sept. 16th.
Anyone from SD know what the best way to campus would be? I found some shuttles, but wasn't sure if that was a good option.
Excited for my first time in San Diego!

Interviewing 9/16 too!
What shuttle did you get? When are you planning on arriving in SD? The ride from airport to UCSD is approximately 20-30 min without traffic.

Another alternative would be using ride share serivces like Lyft (https://www.lyft.com/how) or Uber (https://www.uber.com/cities/san-diego) and you can google for promo codes that can save you like $25 for the ride. These are pretty safe and easy to use. Lotsa UCSD students use these for airport, to/from pubs...etc

Or you could take a cab, but it is super expensive

Thanks!
I get in about 9:15 Monday night and leave Tuesday night at about 8. I didn't get a shuttle yet. I figured I would figure out my options first. Looks like Uber could be a good deal. I will look into that some more. I am a bit nervous about the MMI thing... I'll have to practice quite a bit beforehand. Any complaints about UCSD from your experience?

ahh good you won't hit traffic at that time then. haha i'm nervous bout the MMI thing too! not too sure how to prepare for them

hmmm complaints... UCSD parking sucks XD, but other than that I like pretty much everything here. You'll see why when you get here!

EDIT: Campus dining is kinda expensive too.

I have really similar stats to you. Here's to hoping I get to spend some time in sunny San Diego this fall as well!! 🙂 congrats to all who got interviews! I hope they send another wave tomorrow and some of you will be able to call UCSD your first II! It won't be my first but I'd be thrilled to get an invite all the same.

I'm also interviewing on 9/16! I'm glad I won't be totally alone. I'm IS, but I am not a UCSD student.

Anyone know if they really accept anyone with both stats below their tenth percentile?

Although you have been teasing me with a late secondary, I don't hold it against you. There you go my dear UCSD, my love letter for ya!
EDIT: should have taken a better photo at the Black Beach and use it for UCSD secondary. Only had one with a sunglass on. DamnIT!

Secondary received! OOS 34 and 3.90. I may be a long shot but am still very excited!

OOS and received secondary this morning! YAY! I'm excited!

IS received secondary this morning 😀 thanks for showing me some love! ~3.3 / 36+

Got my secondary this morning too! IS, 3.80 and 33 MCAT. I sent them my SSN and created a login on 7/28.

Now to get started on my autobiography.....

Judging from the amount of interview spots left, seems like only 39 interviews have been given out so far

Hoping to hear back soon! I've spent the weekend on the beach (albeit on the Oregon coast) and it's making me really like the idea of spending the next 4 years in La Jolla 🙂

Just went to campus since I'm in SD this weekend... And now I'm going to be very sad if I don't at least get a shot at an interview 🙁 kinda love the feel of the campus

Good initiative. I have also visited medical schools and I feel like when you visit a school, you kind of fall in love with it.

Does anyone know if the admissions process is different if you expressed interest in one if their Masters programs via the secondary application? Did any of those who received IIs request to be considered for those programs?

Not sure bout that, but I only indicated interest for MD program
