2014-2015 University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just received (and accepted) an offer for MSTP today! A friend I met on the interview trail was fortunate enough to receive and accept an offer for MSTP as well yesterday. I am very excited at the prospect of staying in the Chicago area and look forward to meeting all of you accepted students next year.

@NickNaylor do you know by any chance?

I don't have an exact day, but likely over the next week. Essentially anyone that hasn't withdrawn will be added to the waitlist. Candidates will then be drawn from the waitlist as available - i.e., if the current matriculating class drops below 88. Beyond that I really don't know too much unfortunately.

I was still sleeping when it happened, but this morning a lady called (forgot/didn't catch her name 😴) and offered me admissions to Pritzker. Tbh I had kind of forgotten that I had an open application here, since I interviewed in October and was placed on hold in December. I might have literally dreamed the next part but I think she said there was a full-tuition scholarship in the deal? Super conflicted now :/

Congrats! Let us know if we can help you make a decision in either direction.

Congrats! So you're choosing between which two schools? Chicago and...?

Hopkins, which I really liked at SLW.

Nice problem to have! Is the money significanly better at UChicago? I personally like Chicago (excluding polar vortex season) much more than Baltimore.

Overall, no one is going to argue Chicago is better than Hopkins -- but if you like Chicago as a city better and/or there is a significant money difference, the schools are close enough where Chicago might make the most sense.

*edit* full disclaimer. I am on the wait list here.

Stay with Hopkins! Unless their fin aid is REALLY bad
*edit* full disclaimer. I am on Hopkins wait list and turned down Chicago.

So you're in the Pritzker thread talking down on Pritzker because...? 🤣🤣

@Dinitrophenol congrats on the scholarship - you should definitely take finances into consideration and if you feel the need for a second trip to Chicago to feel out the school you should definitely contact admissions - they would definitely be willing to help you set up a mini 1-day second look.

I did not apply to JHU so I have no reference for them, but I do know that we've already had multiple students choose to matriculate here over there 😉 not to mention students who have chosen us over other top 5 schools.

The scholarship at Pritzker is substantially better than what I would get at Hopkins, but I am a bit apprehensive because the letter states that, "This award is conditional on satisfactory academic progress and the overall financial need of Pritzker students." It sounds like the award is not guaranteed, so I am worried it might dramatically drop once I decide to matriculate, lol.

Just went back and found my old letter and mine has the exact same wording. I think it's basically a fail safe in case you were to win the lottery or were to decide to drop out or something drastic. They aren't going to pull your scholarship lol. Trust me, I'm on the full tuition as well and asked about 100X if there was a chance of me losing it somehow haha.

We are pass/fail and pass now/later - you won't have it taken away for academic reasons and unless you randomly come into millions of dollars during your 4 years here you won't lose it due to financial need.

You're set.

Sigh, any news about when all continued people will hear back about being waitlisted/accepted.

Just walked into the admissions office today (since I work right across the street) and asked if they might know when wait-list proceedings start to happen. The woman I spoke with said that they are still reviewing applications that were "Continued" and that it will probably be another week before the list gets formed and they start to let people know.

Can any current students comment on the general proportion of each class that is accepted initially v. from the waitlist? Got the waitlist email as well but it seems from previous years that the school waitlists most of the continued applicants.

Was just informed of waitlist placement as well 🙁

All this wait-list commotion, we are all talking about the email asking if we want to be placed on the wait list? Right? Just confirming that the email I just got is what everyone got as well. Thanks.

Yea it's the email.

Do they reject anyone or is everyone who was continued get a spot on the WL?

It seems, according to NickNaylor's previous post, that just about everyone who was continued in the cycle is offered a waitlist spot. This is just conjecture, but I think Pritzker fills the class from the continued list after the April 30th deadline (they offer however many spots they need to reach 88 members). Then everyone else who is still on the continued list gets dumped into the waitlist, which is used to fill the few seats that open if currently accepted students get off the waitlist (and decide to matriculate) elsewhere. This is just my impression though, I could be wrong!

I'm guessing they had a really good initial yield this year because they formed the waitlist relatively early compared to previous cycles. Regardless, we'll see what happens! Pritzker would be a great option to have, but I'm definitely excited and happy with my current decision, and many of you should be too 🙂

This is correct.

🙁

I thought my three interviews here were the best I had at any school (faculty interviewer saying "I think you'd be a great fit at our school" and "you've made some very insightful comments"). Now wondering why they bothered to have me fly out. I guess maybe I could have snagged a spot if their yield had been lower.

So long, Pritzker! (still an inkling of hope I suppose)

Well they obviously thought you would be a great fit for the school because they extended you an interview! They don't hand out interviews willy nilly at pritzker! And you're still on the waitlist so don't feel too bad. Do you have any other acceptances?

So does this mean that many of us have virtually no chance of getting accepted off of the wait list?

Did anyone else receive an email this morning inquiring about continued interest?

Accepted by phone call this morning (w/full-tuition scholarship it sounded like).

Wow, what a wild ride. I'm overcome. So excited to join the Pritzker community!!

Congrats! Excellent news on the scholarship - I seem to remeber that financial aid was an issue at a previous scool Glad it worked out in the end!
