2014-2015 University of South Florida Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just looked up USF's information for the MSP3 program, from what I can tell that is different from the IMS program and there is not guarantee of acceptance for that one. It prepares you for health professions schools and you get a Master's, but the IMS is a bit different because they have to select you to apply. Thanks for the information.I think the IMS program would be a good fit for me if they cannot offer me a waitlist position or acceptance for this year. Fingers crossed so tightly I can barely type this 😀 although today is Friday the 13th, so every time my phone shows a notification I jump!

has anyone else not received any notification from the school in terms of acceptance/rejection/interview/no-interview?
Just got the invitation to apply for the IMS program (after declining me interview) and from what I read and it says this in the email that if you meet their IMS requirement then it is guaranteed to matriculate. Thus this is similar to some post-bacc programs that allows students guaranteed spot provided they do well in the classes and meet whatever requirement the school puts in place. It seems like this year's IMS program is different from the one being offered in year's past (again based on my incomplete research). Hope that helps and best of luck!

Does anybody known if USF is done interviewing for CORE? I have yet to receive a pre-II rejection, but I imagine they're done or at least very close to it.

There are ~3 more interview dates as far as I know... (I know SELECT has 2 more and I belive Core has 1 more than us, but it could be the same/few more) Whether those interview slots are filled already, though, I have no idea.

sorry, i'm trying to put whole subject in title so people know when to/when not to read further...

anyways, to repeat my subject, if i'm submitting amcas early june, when will 2aries come, so that i can give my LOR writers a date?

thanks!
Scheduled for the 24th! So next week 🙂

Does anyone have any suggestion(s) how I should go about finding a roommate? Also, are there any apartment complexes known to be quiet and problem-free? Any to avoid? Thank you.

The facebook group has a couple other people looking for roommates already. Also, I found this older webpage pretty informative: http://health.usf.edu/medicine/2012/housing

Can someone post a link to the accepted student facebook page (if there is one)?? I am looking for housing but won't be able to make it out to Tampa before school starts

My advice if you value your quiet: avoid the area directly north of campus. It's swarming with undergrads which generally equals parties. Most of my classmates that live in complexes live in the Tampa Palms area, but there are other options as well.

The COMPAC will also send you further information re: housing and places to avoid.

Anyone know when final interview and/or rejection letters were sent out last year? Even better, for this year?

For those who got accepted to CORE, how many days after your interview did it take for you to get the call? Interviewed 1/27 and no one i know from that day got called yet

For me it was one week, got a call from Dr. Daniel early afternoon. From what I heard from current students any phone call was a good sign/acceptance, interesting some waitlisted students got calls - that's probably a good sign that you're high on the list.

CORE, my only acceptance so far but I'm stoked to move to Tampa.

Anyone going to second look weekend? Anyone have thoughts on the "Pre-matriculation Medical Science Skills Development Program that is from Jul 6-27?" I saw someone posted above asking about it, haven't seen any replies. I'm also out of school 2 years, don't think it'll be an issue but would like to have a warmup before classes start.

+2

some kids apparently already got them...has anyone been rejected without interview and also without IMS invitation this cycle?

I am also wondering this...I've called the office and they said that it should be sometime in April. Some people definitely have been rejected pre-II...I really just hope they aren't waiting until April 1st to send everyone else their rejections... I feel like I've waited for so long just to get the worst news of all time. I really hope I can apply IMS and/or get on the waitlist.

For reference, "each applicant who has received an offer of acceptance from more than one school or program has until April 30th of the matriculation year to choose the specific school or program at which the applicant prefers to enroll and withdraw his or her application, by written correspondence delivered by regular or electronic methods, from all other schools or programs from which acceptance offers have been received." So I'm thinking interviews would have to be wrapped up in April, to give students time to decide on what school they will attend...

Does anyone know what percent of the waitlist typically gets accepted at some point (based on past years)? I asked admissions and they wouldn't tell me anything :/

Hi, I am thinking of applying to USF next year. I was wondering do they send you the secondaries without your MCAT score? Did this happen to anyone?

yes. if you call them and ask them, they tell you to submit your amcas app and then they will send you a secondary. but don't submit your secondary until you get your scores, so they will see them.

Oh, okay! Thank you. That would be a better idea.

Anyone know if USF typically has a lot of waitlist movement? Interviewed for SELECT in January and waitlisted two weeks later here.

Have there been students who have been rejected? Or is mostly everyone wait listed if they're not accepted?

^^ I have the same question. Has anyone been rejected, or has everyone thus far been put on the waitlist or offered to apply IMS??????

Well one page back that guy said after feb 17th everyone was interviewing for a waitlist position. So if they only waitlisted and didn't reject anyone, that would mean that literally everyone who interviews after Feb 17th gets waitlisted :cold:

anyone know the last interview date for this cycle? (for both CORE AND SELECT if they are different - seems like they were different in past years) and how far in advance do they tend to send out invitations to interview?

Last interview date for this cycle SELECT was yesterday. I do not know about Core.

People are definitely interviewing for CORE today, but I'm not sure if this is the last day or not.

Not sure but I think they are finished interviewing now. I got invited to interview for CORE on 3/13/15 and scheduled mine for 3/17/15 but could have scheduled as late as 3/28/15 so that was the latest interview I knew of (for CORE). For what it's worth about 1 week later I got my letter for the waitlist, which seems very soon but then again the cycle is finishing up.

Does anyone know when movement will happen on the waitlist? Before April 30th, or definitely after? I heard May 14 or 15 was a big day for a lot of people on waitlists in general last year, but that sounds kind of arbitrary

That's not an arbitrary date. I believe that's when you are only allowed to hold an acceptance at 1 MD medical school. So up until that point, someone could be holding an acceptance at multiple schools. When this person is forced to choose 1, then it opens up a spot at the other schools where he/she essentially had a seat reserved for a person on the waitlist to be accepted into that person's "seat."

Does anyone know the percent of BS/MD students that make up the total class size and also the OOS matriculants? Interested in applying here this upcoming cycle, but I wanted to make sure that the majority of their OOS students are not from the BS/MD program, as is the case at some other schools.

We have quite a few OOS in our class. Many are in the SELECT program but CORE also has quite a bit too. I think it'd be safe to say 25% of the class is OOS. MSAR could probably give you more accurate numbers.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up just in case you're like me and didn't get an email from the financial aid office but financial aid packages are available on oasis if you log in with your usf health email and password.

Today was the last day for interviews. This week and last week were interview days for positions in the IMS class, so not exactly for CORE.

May I ask where everyone found their financial aid on Oasis? Please excuse my ignorance but I have searched the site and can't find it. TIA!

Oasis -> Financial Aid -> My Award and Loan Information. Select Fall 15 - Spring 16 school year. Award Overview should have your loan/scholarships listed.

Thank you!! Mine's not showing up yet for some reason :/

The deadline for students holding multiple acceptances to choose just one used to be May 15th, so not an arbitrary date. That deadline is now April 30th. As far as when the waitlist will move, from their website:

"After the April 30th AMCAS deadline has passed for accepted students, the Medical Student Selection Committee may have the opportunity to call upon waitlist applicants to fill seats that may become available. Please note that seats may not be available right after April 30th; this is merely a starting point of potential waitlist movement."

Hmm maybe they changed the date

Has anyone else who wasn't invited to interview NOT received an email rejection yet? I have yet to receive the email, and I believe a bunch were sent out last week. Is anybody else in the same boat/know why this is?
