Any recommendations for finding an apartment while not physically in Tampa? Any of you newly matriculating students looking for a roommate for June?

So apparently the way they notify us of waitlist status is their subtle way of telling us where we are on the waitlist? Is there any hope for those of us who were waitlisted via snail mail?
I was snail mail wait list but got a call from Dr. Daniel last Tuesday. Excited to be matriculating to USF

The apt managers down here are pretty accomodating in terms of signing a lease while in another city/state. I found a roommate and an apt all while living OOS. There is a facebook page for the incoming class (PM for the link) where we have a google doc with housing info compiled from the upperclassmen. Personally, I used that document to find names of places, researched those complexes on my own, then with my roommate (who messaged me via FB - most people found roommates through FB or at 2nd look) found an apt we both liked and did everything over the phone. They emailed the lease to us, and we scanned/emailed it back and that was that. Trust in your research and if you have any questions (such as which places are mainly undergrad housing) feel free to PM me or post on the FB page. Good luck, and congrats on your acceptance!

Not entirely sure; that's just the impression I had from what others said a few posts back.

Hi all! Got accepted of the waitlist last Friday 5/8, reaching out to my classmates & possibly looking for a roommate. Would someone pm me a link to the FB group / Google doc?

Thanks! John

anyone for SELECT still waiting? At lease one person I know was offered waitlist that did not accept and I am hoping for a call soon!

Dumb question: how close to school do most med students want to be?

Depends on your noise tolerance level. Close to the medical school, means close to the USF campus which usually means a lot of undergrads. Some of my classmates can attest to the frustration when they're partying and you're still studying or attempting to sleep for an 8 am test. Our academic schedules don't exactly line up so this is a real possibility. Many of my classmates chose to live in complexes a couple miles down the road in Tampa Palms area, which will still have undergrads, but not as much to critical mass.

The downside to that, is that it's a bit further from TGH when you start rotations 3rd year. Some people do end up moving downtown 3rd year to reduce the commute.

Lutz area; have space for med student (premed myself) - home - not sure where I'd post that ... probably sig reduced rent - just was not sure if that's too far for some of you guys 🙂

(home includes non-trad premed, BA student - my son, 3 dogs; 4 bdrm, 2 bath...)

Still crickets. Although they apparently looked at my application* yesterday. I'm trying (and failing) not to read too much into that fact, but let's be real here, this is my 3rd cycle and the last chance I've got before round 4.

** I know someone called earlier this year and they said it didn't correlate to when the committee looked at you, buttttt....

Did you apply to any DO?

Not yet. I finished an SMP about two years ago and this was my first full cycle with that under my belt. I wanted to see how far that was able to take me before I started thinking about DO. I'll probably give it a shot this upcoming cycle though, assuming this wait list ends up the way I'm starting to think it will.

Withdrew from waitlist ... SELECT... OOS ... Good luck to you all.

Has anyone who interviewed later than February 20th been accepted to USF so far?

The fb page for accepted students. We make one each year for the incoming class.
Ok. I hope to be on that page soon! . Please keep me updated if you can. I am very hopeful. I know a couple of people last year that got accepted in June.

What do you see as the most likely practice scenario for your future medical career?
a. Please choose the single answer that best describes your career goals:
Private Practice
Academic Medicine
Public Health
Healthcare Administration

Other

Why do you feel you are particularly suited for this practice scenario? What knowledge, skills and attitudes have you developed that have prepared you for this career path?

The USF Morsani College of Medicine’s Scholarly Concentrations program aims to support the educational development of medical students by providing opportunities for academic endeavors in areas of special interest. This program facilitates self-directed learning, enhances interactions between students and fosters relationships between students and faculty. Scholarly concentrations provide a forum where diversity of ideas and perspectives are valued. Each concentration includes elements of course work, practical application and scholarly presentation.
Please review our Scholarly Concentrations website to determine which concentration would be of interest to you and answer the following question.

a. How would the USF Morsani College of Medicine’s Scholarly Concentrations Program help your personal career goals?

Describe a time in your life when you felt you were “at your best." Why did you choose this event, and how does it reflect your potential as a physician?

Who is the best leader you have known in your life? Describe what made her or him so effective and how they made you feel when you were around them.

The University of South Florida, College of Medicine strives to educate a very diverse set of students who bring a variety of strengths and interests to the field of medicine. The definition of diversity is broad and includes (but is not limited to) lifestyle, race/ethnicity, geography, socioeconomic status and distance traveled through life. The definition of strength is also broad and includes (but not limited to) humanism, scholarship, intellectual curiosity, research and leadership. How do you feel your particular experiences, interests, and passions will add to the strength and diversity of the USF class and ultimately to the field of medicine?

Describe your ideas about how the medical profession can best respond to disparities in healthcare.

Good luck to everyone applying! :luck:

What is the word/character limit for each essay?

Ended up withdrawing from USF. Never believed I could do that after the interview, but my best wishes to everyone attending Morsani, and to those waiting!

Randomly logged onto the secondary website. Apparently my file was viewed last week. What does it meeaaannn?

I'm planning on applying to USF this cycle and was wondering if anybody had any experience getting the English requirement waived. I have AP credit for two semesters of English, but from their website, they seem pretty strict that they want us to take it during college. If any of you didn't have this requirement done, did you have to take English before you matriculated?

Accepted student here. Thinking of renting a town home across from USF. Looking to see if any females would be interested in being roommates. Looking for two females who share a bathroom. The townhome is a 3/2. No Facebook page yet so I figured I would try on here. Message me if you're interested for more details! 🙂🙂
