Please use this space to write an essay in which you discuss your interest in Yale School of Medicine. Please limit your response to 500 words.

This section is optional. It should be used to bring to the attention of the Admissions Committee any important information (personal, academic, or professional) not discussed in other sections of your Yale Secondary Application.

Please limit your response to 500 words.

Good luck to everyone applying! :luck:

When I look at MSAR it says secondaries here can be submitted June 30. But I didn't think amcas even sent apps to schools until June 27...does anybody know if this June 30 date is accurate?

Dream school 🙂 Applying IS but it doesn't really matter lol.

Yet another reach on the list.. would love to be at Yale.

Does anyone know of any other schools that have a curriculum like the Yale system? I would love to apply to them and I'm not sure if maybe besides Duke, any other school does.

Are you looking for curriculums that require a thesis to graduate? Because I personally would not consider Yale and Duke to have a similar curriculum otherwise.

^I was thinking lots of academic freedom, Yale has an excessive amount and Duke has a whole second year dedicated to academic freedom.

Only required essay, like before, is "Please use this space to write an essay in which you discuss your interest in Yale School of Medicine". With 500 words of space, and no other required essays, I'd put effort into this one! Or rather, read up on the Yale system and show your love for it.

Optional essay is just another "any additional info" type. I'm undecided whether I want to essentially copy/paste in a "diversity"-type essay from another school.

Also wondering about this. I know for Columbia they only want important things in the optional essay, but not sure about Yale

Yeah, I already made the "mistake" of writing a pretty generic "why columbia" essay for that optional prompt, which I expect will not hurt me but not help me either. I wish schools gave a couple more guidelines about what they might find helpful to know for these...

Weird, no secondary for me yet.

Edit: Got it 1 minute after I posted this haha.

What are your stats? Does Yale filter before sending secondaries? I have a ****ty MCAT, so I'm wondering if they just want my money for the secondary lol (I just got it).

For the Activities & Achievements, they only want info after AMCAS primary submission correct? I am confused about this.

100% confident I'm wasting money. But hey, #yolo.

But anyway, lol at even their "Example 'snapshot' List" making me feel insecure about my application.

The 2nd author Cell Bio paper really got me. Total ego-killer.

I think they just want you to list the highlights from your AMCAS. See their FAQ: "Choose your most significant employment positions, extracurricular and community activities, important achievements and distinctions from the "Experience" section in your AMCAS application and list them in order of importance."

Has anybody applying MSTP received a secondary email yet?

Does anyone else see that their letters of recommendation haven't been "received" yet? I sent mine in a long time ago and the other schools I applied to have my file as complete, but for whatever reason Yale doesn't yet. I emailed, but does anyone know why this could have happened? Thanks in advance!

Schools must download LOR's into their own system from AMCAS in order for them to be marked as received in their app portal. Yale hasn't downloaded them yet.

secondary received! HUGE reach for me, but what's the harm in trying, right? hopefully they can see beyond my lower 30s mcat and love me lots

Hey so the requirements for this application season now includes biochem lab, does anyone know if orgo covers that?

Finding new, creative, and inventive ways of saying "I wanna go to Yale because Yale is super awesome" isn't as easy as I had hoped.

Well if it makes you feel better, 500 words is the LIMIT, so you don't have to write that much.

Very true, 500 words is a good limit.
Meanwhile georgetown wants 5,000 characters on the same question.....

While technically the website includes the 1 semester of biochem requirement in the list which "including laboratory" describes, I find it highly unlikely they actually require a lab with biochem. Every other top school I'm aware of that has added a biochem requirement only requires a lecture course. Now, I could be wrong, but in any case, you could take the lab wherever the summer before matriculation if you get in and decide to attend.

Any consensus on what the additional info section can be used for?

Anything you feel substantially adds to your application and/or motivation for medicine that wasn't already covered in your AMCAS. Or extenuating circumstances for grades etc. They do give 500 words.

So....I finished all of my secondaries but three. Yale is one of them. I have always dreamt of going to Yale when I was younger, but they flat out rejected me for undergrad. THEN I met people actually from Yale, and I was like, damn, ok, makes sense. A class of 100 is pretty standard, but honestly i feel like it would be unlikely for me to be included in that 100. A friend of mine got rejected flat out in June with no other notifications throughout the cycle, then again he applied late. I have a 36/3.85, which honestly is on par with Yale standard but I just feel like I would be wasting money and time...anyon else feel this way? I have to decide if I want to apply soon...

Anyone having problems submitting the fee? When I try to proceed to payment the website is no longer encrypted.

If you are having problems with the website or submitting it might be due to using a Mac, use a PC. Switching seems to have resolved the issues I was having.

My attitude has typically been that the pre-interview money+time commitment of submitting a secondary is pretty small compared to the potential benefit if you truly do think the school is a good fit for you. Your numbers are in striking distance, which eliminates one of the bigger reasons not to go for it.

I ended up listing my activities chronologically rather than by most important, should I send the correct list in an update with my spring grades?

Finally submitted Yale's secondary after sitting on it for two weeks! Good luck to all applying.
