I just hit 6000 characters... did that overdo it?
no secondary should ever ever be longer than your PS. it's "secondary" for a reason. Cut it down to 4000-4500 manI just hit 6000 characters... did that overdo it?
How long is it, and is it double or single spaced?I just hit 6000 characters... did that overdo it?
Why's that matter? 6000 characters is much longer than the PS...it is much much too long for a "secondary" essayHow long is it, and is it double or single spaced?
It depends. The prompt said 1-2 pages. That's actually pretty long, certainly much longer than most other secondaries. His/Her essay is still too long, but I'm just trying to get a feel for where exactly it's at since this essay is supposed to be longer than nearly any other essay on a secondary. Knowing where he/she is at pagewise and whether that is double or single spaced would help determine if he/she needs to eliminate 1,000 characters or 3,000 characters, and that's a big difference. Why's that matter? 6000 characters is much longer than the PS...it is much much too long for a "secondary" essay
ok fair. Page limits should always be interpreted to mean double-spaced unless otherwise specifically notedIt depends. The prompt said 1-2 pages. That's my opinion as well, but I guess technically a person can interpret it however they want since they didn't specify line-spacing. I wouldn't really fault anyone for turning in something that's 1.5-spaced. However, I think 2 pages single-spaced is much too long.ok fair. 1.5 spaced for a full pages is still too long. 1.5 spaced just simply because someone doesn't like how double-spaced looks is fine if it doesn't go on and on and on hahaThat's my opinion as well, but I guess technically a person can interpret it however they want since they didn't specify line-spacing. The problem here is that there are no format requests other than that it be submitted as a PDF attachment. I don't think anybody is trying to suggest that the admissions committee intended something different than what they communicated in the application (for example, "Oh, they said 1-2 pages, but they meant half a page.") However, even though we are all encouraging people to go by the rules given, the rules are ambiguous. For example, a two page, single-spaced essay typed in 8 point font meets the requirements as written. A one page, double-spaced essay typed in 30 point font also meets the requirements as written. Realistically, though, I think we all understand that these are not reasonable essays to turn in. I think everyone is trying to encourage a reasonable interpretation of the vague directions. One person's interpretation may differ from another person's. My opinion is that the standard for pieces of writing is double-spaced, so double-spaced probably makes the most sense. I know not everyone will agree, and everyone should do whatever they feel is in their best interest.Just make sure you follow their format requests and go up to 2 pages, no more. Also, remember it doesn't matter what people on SDN think is too long or short - its what the admissions committee thinks. if they said 1-2 pages, do up to 2 pages.
ME TOO!I'll be interviewing the 24th!
ME TOO!
Thank you! I was complete on 7/9Congratulations to both of you! 4-cyclohexene, when did you complete?
I interpreted the 1-2 page rule to mean 1 page was the lower limit and 2 pages was the upper limit. I really don't know though. Mine was about a page and a half double-spaced.Submitted last night. Did everyone submit a full page or more for the why georgetown essay? I'm a really concise person and I had maybe a fourth of a page. I'm not too worried about it (I answered their question) but I'm just wondering.
1/4 page single spaced? That’s like 3/4 of a page if the font you used was normal.Submitted last night. Did everyone submit a full page or more for the why georgetown essay? Single spaced obviously.1/4 page single spaced? That’s like 3/4 of a page if the font you used was normal.
