2015-2016 Temple University Application Thread

So will your campus choice actually effect your admission? I guess so since they even have an essay question about it.. What if I would be happy to do clinical in any one of those places? Just accept me! Put me wherever you want! Please!

I know ppl will get mad at me, but I can't help myself...... *Affect*

If we're pretty much only interested in the main campus, do we just select the main campus three times?
I would still assign ranks to the other two (following instructions)... I'm sure one of them will appeal to you more than the other.

I don't think so. That essay question is probably to separate people who are actually serious about pursuing their clerkship at a different campus (the spots are limited after all).

So then why do they even have you write an essay if you just want to stick with the main campus?

Do you guys think a paragraph is enough for stating your location preference? By comparison, my why temple is quite a bit longer like an actual essay

I feel like it's hard not to repeat myself :/

Has anyone tried copying/pasting their essays from Mac Word? It says its not recommended in the secondary email but it's my only option unless I want to type everything in again and risk missing typos 🙁

copy and paste into textEdit on Macs and command+shift+t to get rid of formatting

For those of you choosing to stay at Temple, are you basically just saying why you want to stay in Philadelphia for 3rd and 4th year? I don't have a compelling reason....I just want to stay at the main campus and not be split off from the rest of the class

Yeah that's what I'm focusing on mostly! Because everything else is addressed in the why temple essay...

Cool, thanks! I've never been to Philadelphia...but I don't like this regional campus thing.... I want to be where ever most of the med school class is!

I agree and I hope they don't evaluate us against others who have the same preferences -- because wouldn't it theoretically be easier to get into a less popular program?! 🤔

Anyone else not get a direct link to payment through TUPay after submitting the secondary? It said there was supposed to be a "Pay Here TUPay" link, but it said it was already opened?

I understand that the ACT/SAT scores are optional, but seriously? You would really consider scores on a test we took 5 or more years ago?

Why are people acting like the new MCAT is not a reliable way of testing applicants? All they did was make the test longer and more critical-thinking based and added some all-important subjects.

But they AREN'T "considering scores from 5 years ago.." It is for research purposes. They previously had the same thing for the old MCAT, now they are doing it for the new one. Admissions definitely does not care about what you got on the SAT.

EDIT: Well, after looking at the online app, they ARE actually saying that it's for a "more comprehensive review of your application." Now I don't know what to think... Actually using SAT scores would be crazy...

But they said it "may be helpful in a comprehensive review of your application", which doesn't imply research purposes to me. I mean they could have made that clear if that was the case.

See my edit, I noticed that after I posted. I agree that is very bizarre.

does anyone know what kinds of research opportunities exist for md students at geisinger campus?

They want to know that you really are a good test taker, and that you didn't just do well bc the MCAT2015 was super easy or something. They just want to see consistency, so they can be confident you'll pass the USMLE

is grading here p/np or H/HP/P/LP/F

Can anyone comment about TUSM's community service activities? I've heard that TUSM emphasizes community service and that's what drew me to this school in the first place but I can't seem to find any specific details on their website.

The list of student organizations was very helpful for that, and the videos on different parts of the website were also good in providing info on that. Oh - and the admissions brochure was great.

You might have to do some digging to find it all, though. Took me a good half of yesterday.

I found some useful stuff about student organizations/programs in the student manual.

EDIT: Sorry didn't see the post above ^^^^

All submitted! Hope we start hearing good news soon 🙂

Same, submitted secondary 2 day ago and already becoming impatient....it's going to be a LONG application cycle.

Just submitted. Good luck everyone! Did anyone get a "complete" email?

I think they have it. I called them today to inquire about a similar issue and they said they have all of the materials sent to them by the AAMC and only update our portal site once a week until interview season. I would call to make sure, they were very nice about it on the phone!

This may be a silly question, but I don't want to risk not answering this question properly..
"How do you anticipate contributing to the TUSM community?"
Do they mean how am I going to contribute to the school of medicine specifically? Like, what diversity/skills will I bring to the class? Or can I mention what I can contribute to the Philly area (like volunteering at clinics, etc)?

I think the focus is on what you will contribute to the TUSM entering class but it wouldn't hurt to also mention your contributions to the surrounding area if you feel that is applicable (ie. you have a personal connection to the area or have a heart for working with Philly residents specifically; I would avoid generalizations though if you mention contributions to Philly).

haha well that is exactly what I was going to do (mention them both), but if it's not what they're looking for I don't want to risk it!

I did edit my post and added that you should only mention contributions to Philly if you have a specific reason and not just "I want to volunteer at the local clinics" or some generalization.

Oh yeah, I assumed that's what you meant in the first place. I was going to name specific organizations and activities. Thanks for your input, I'll likely mention some community contributions as well.

Just checked my materials. All of my LORs are from my university . However, all but one are listed as such...problem is that one that is not listed with an associated university is one of my science letters. Will this be a problem you think?

Has anyone gotten an application is complete email? I submitted my secondary earlier this week and my status on the secondary website says verified but not sure if that means complete.

I've gotten nothing. I assume the website saying verified is all we're gonna get.

The huge gap of time between finishing all my other secondaries and receiving this one is definitely hurting the quality of my essays. I'm so not in writing mode anymore. Hopefully being IS will make up for some lack-luster writing on my part haha.

Same and it's driving me nuts. TSOM is my #1, I need them to validate my existence by sending a "we're reviewing your application" email or something.

Apparently this website isn't letting me pay them. This this happen to anyone else?

^jealous! I'm only halfway done :'-(

So then why do they even have you write an essay if you just want to stick with the main campus?

Last year's question only asks you to describe you interest in the campus you select if it's not not the main campus in Philly, so I'm guessing this essay is not too important if you choose the main campus. Not sure why they would change it this year, though!

Is anyone else having trouble viewing the informational videos on the three clinical campuses?

Yulp I could only view one of them. After that I ended up just reading about the other two on the web sights.
