2015-2016 University of Arizona Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Amen brother (or sister). I've been thinking the same thing all day. It's made me super anxious. Haha.
Hehe sister 🙂 Agreed on the anxiety. We've got a couple more hours before giving up hope and waiting for Monday haha.

Haha. Glad I covered both genders then! And yeah. I've decided to give my self hope until noon Arizona time. Then I'll go eat my emotions if I haven't heard anything. Haha

That sounds like a good plan! I feel ya.

not today I guess 🙁

It's possible that the committee is meeting every-other week. This seems to be the policy at other schools.
Yeah I think you are right 🙂 They did say they send out decisions/meet bi-monthly. We were just hopeful based off of last years dates! Perhaps next week will be our lucky week :luck:

Anyone receive any interview invites this week? It seems like they send out invites roughly 1-2 weeks before an interview date and they have 1 interview scheduled for the next 2 weeks (November 13th and 21st). I've been completed for a while and haven't heard anything🙁

Congrats!! What dates did they have available for interviews?

Sorry loloschicken, I didn't see your post until now. When I signed up, only Nov. 6th (Session 2&3) was available. According to what I've read from others, UA fills up one interview date before opening another, but that's only what I've heard secondhand.

I can't express how much I enjoyed my interview yesterday. Everyone kept saying it, but it's really true - by the end you actually enjoy the MMI. The school is phenomenal and you can tell the students genuinely love going there. Every staff and faculty member who spoke with us made it clear they are there to support their students wholeheartedly and provide the resources they need to excel.

For those who get IIs, I would thoroughly recommend going to the prereception the day before even to just get rid of the uncertainty of knowing where to park and having more time to talk to current students. If you can't make it don't worry, we were told only about half of the interviewees attend.

Also, for those in my interview group, you guys all seemed like really cool people - fingers crossed we hear some good news in December!

Congrats and thanks for the response! Do you know how many people were in each session? How many people did your entire interview day had?

If you weren't accepted or rejected in a previous committee meeting, do you get an update every time they meet about the status of your app?

Yes. UACOM-Tucson does not reject post-interview, nor make a waitlist, until the end of the cycle. In other words, if you interview and are not immediately accepted, your application is re-reviewed every time there is an ADCOM meeting. Therefore, you will get another "you have not been selected at this time" every time they meet, or the long awaited acceptance letter.
Then, if you already interviewed and have not been accepted by around May 15th (not sure of the exact date), you will get an official rejection or a spot on the waitlist. Good luck!

Anyone heard anything today? Bueller?
Getting into medical school teaches patience and for some... endurance. At one of my interviews we were talking about getting rejected when one guy blurted out: "you know what is worse than getting outright rejected? Being put on three waiting lists and then getting rejected is worse than getting outright rejected." He was showing his endurance by showing up for application year round #2. Last week as I was talking to a surgeon a few minutes before he operated on me, the thought came into my head "wow, this dude could really mess me up. I hope he is competent and cares enough to do a good job. I can't believe I am allowing a person I met a week ago who I know virtually nothing about operate on me." I then thought about my own journey to medical school and how hard it has been to just get into medical school, let alone get through it, residency, and boards. That thought helped me feel much better before my surgery which went very well. The process to get into medical school can be very challenging.... but in the operating room I was very grateful for that fact. That said... with all this waiting I've gone nuts.

Thanks for your help. Do you know if it's taking tucson is taking longer thus year to get back about possible interview invites? Also, do you know how many people they are interviewing this cycle?

They told us they were doing fewer interviews this year than last year. If I remember correctly, they said they were going to do about 420 interviews this year. Also, they accepted 194 people for 115 spots last year. They explained they try to make it fair to interviewees throughout the interview cycle by not accepting a ton of people outright, but by accepting people proportionally throughout the interview season. As for getting back about possible interview invites, they like many medical schools have had a record number of applicants this year (my hypothesis for that is because of all the people like myself who rushed to take the old MCAT who are currently applying when they might have put it off another year).

So I interviewed in early October, does anyone have an idea on when I can expect some type of answer from UACOM?

The admissions committee has already made a round of acceptances. You should have received an email informing you that you weren't accepted in this round but are still being considered. They did not specify when they'll be making more acceptances, but the general consensus in this forum is either the end of this week or the next. Hope this helps!

To make sure I'm not misunderstanding: UA doesn't require physics labs right?

I've been complete for 13 weeks and haven't heard anything. 😉 Patience 🙂 Although I'm expecting to be rejected any day now lol.
OMG, 13 week!?!?!?!?!??! Have you tried calling them to see what's going on? 13 weeks sounds like way too long!!

Now you all are freaking me out... my portal says secondary materials received. They have everything, including my letters of recommendation (they had those as of 8/4, it says that under document status). I interviewed at Phoenix already so I'm not sure what is going on at Tucson. I just assumed they interview out of order? I don't want to seem weird calling their office asking about my application when it says online everything is in.

Should I really call them? lol

I would just call them. The admissions people are really nice and it seems unusual you have been in process for so long without so much as a hold (I know they gave out pre-interview rejections but that seems rare). They especially are not going to ding you after you have been waiting for 13 weeks.

For real though. Haha. I thought we would at least hear something by yesterday. Definitely hoping to hear something tomorrow. Fingers crossed!
Welp. Happy friday the 13th. Sigh.

Congrats!!!

Has anyone received the "not selected at this round of acceptances but you are still being considered" email? I thought we were supposed to get one?
Nope! Waiting for that now haha
