2015-2016 University of California - San Diego Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congratulations to everyone who has gotten accepted today. Did anyone get an II lately? I was complete mid-September and still not a peep.

II this evening. OOS. Seriously one of my top choices. The dates they offered conflicted, so I had to email asking for other available dates :/

Oh sorry, I forgot. Complete 10/3. LizzyM high 70s.

Last time I called, they said applications get reviewed in order of when they receive the AMCAS and not when you submit the secondary. When did you submit AMCAS? I was complete 9/15 and haven't heard anything yet.

On the portal, it says they received my AMCAS 9/14

Well if you got an II and I didn't and our AMCAS was received the same time, then that's not a good sign for me....although completion date and II offerings seem to have no correlation whatsoever for this school. My status page hasn't changed either.

At a lot of schools, MSTP and regular MD apps are reviewed by different people and committees. I guess it's a more relieving to know you're MSTP. There are fewer MSTP applicants than MD applicants overall so I'm assuming they are able to go through applications faster, hence why you have an II already and not me haha.

Post-interview, does UCSD welcome thank you emails? They made it seem like they don't really like updates, but they didn't address thank yous...

Who were you planning on sending a thank you to? To each one of your MMI interviewers? Or to the admissions office? For the former, I think it'd be excessive to send 8 thank you's to people you didn't really get to know all that well and for the latter, I think it would only really matter if you're trying to be super polite.

I didn't send any thank you's but I also got waitlisted, so who knows, maybe sending a thank you will be the difference between acceptance and purgatory 😛

They specifically said no thank you emails to the interviewers, but you could thank your host or the people you met that day outside of the actual interviews.

I guess I was just thinking of sending a general one to the people we met from admissions. I'll think about it

I didn't send any and got accepted. Theyre mostly disregarded, especially at schools with MMI so I wouldn't bother personally, honestly.

Kind of a late question -- did everyone receive an 'application complete' email from UCSD? I feel like I read in some correspondence SOMEWHERE to wait 10 days to receive a confirmation email? I've just been checking back through things, on the applicant status page my secondary was complete 8/24, and nothing in the 'hold for interview' box.

I'm assuming if they have a date it was complete that they know it's complete... but just wondering if somehow it didn't trigger their system. Thank you!

has anyone gotten the request for social security number but was never granted a secondary?

II -- totally shocked. 513 MCAT/3.81 cGPA/3.58 sGPA/OOS non-trad with interesting background. Can anyone shed any light on what the interview day is like? Also, I don't know much about the school -- are there any current students or people who have already interviewed that could share what they liked/loved about UCSD?

Has anyone had success sending UCSD a pre-interview update? Thanks!

Short day with MMI. Excellent school located in the most beautiful city in the U.S. 😉

anybody get a hold for an interview? or if you know the chances of getting an interview from being put on hold?

haven't heard anything yet...

completed my secondaries on 8/9, GPA:3.9+, MCAT 518, IS, non trad

I missed my secondary deadline but my portal is still active...has anyone gotten an ii after submitting late?

MD and Prime II earlier this week! Complete in July - don't give up hope! Anyone else interviewing early Dec? I'd love to meet you guys! 🙂

It really is your decision, and I just want to provide you with more information, so you came make a more informed decision. I attended an event hosted by the UCSD pre-med club, and a talk was given by someone from the admissions office, and he stated that if you miss the deadline save your money and don't bother. But on the other hand, I know someone who got into UCSD med having submitted his application a couple of days late. Hope that helps!

You never know until you try! I say go for it so you won't regret not submitting your secondary later on. Kinda irrelevant to UCSD but I submitted my secondary to UCLA past the one-month mark and I still got an interview.

Anyone know how long the current waitlist is? I haven't interviewed yet, but as this is my only MD interview for now, I want to prepare myself emotionally for all outcomes.

I believe rejection is 1/6 chance, acceptance is 1/3 and waitlist is the rest. They said waitlist has (up to) a 20% chance.

The waitlist is not ranked and therefore they are focusing in filling gaps in the class come May and enhance diversity. And they said this diversity does not only include race and stats, but life story as well.

For example they mentioned undergraduate institution, major, age, Job, extracurriculars, etc. they really want a well rounded class.

Their admissions staff is really nice and very transparent and could arguably be one of the best in the country. And it is a top 20

I wish you luck and hope you get in 🙂 .

I have an MD and PRIME II on Dec 3rd; I'll be driving out from the LA area bright and early 😴 lol

I have experienced the MMI interviews, but does anyone have insight on what the PRIME interview is like?
