2015-2016 University of Chicago (Pritzker) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm not interviewing tomorrow, but I came onto this thread because I was curious about this too... stay safe everyone!

Glad that the University is taking appropriate precautions and hope everyone stays safe. As for us interviewees, they called us and let us know to be on the lookout tomorrow morning for what the plan will be.

I just want to second this - the time between complete and review is completely random. There is a randomness to how applications are reviewed, and for whatever reason some are reviewed earlier than others. No decision has been made on your file until you hear one way or the other, and you aren't on "hold" unless you are actually told that you are on hold. There have been a few applicants who I recently interviewed who had absolutely awesome applications and were complete sometime in July but for whatever reason weren't offered an interview for long time.
Got an II yesterday for first week of January! App completed last week of July. Silence for 4 weeks then an II! Embrace the randomness!

Thank you, I did have an awesome interview day! I could tell from the enthusiasm of the students and the faculty members that Prizker was an awesome place to be. It definitely is going to be a long wait until I hear back in February.
Yeah the wait is annoying. It goes by quickly though.

Anyone have any advice for what to wear? Do I need to buy an overcoat, boots, something else? The only time I have been in snow has been when I am snowboarding...

Unless it's freshly snowed the sidewalks are typically cleared. Maybe bring some boots if snow is in the forecast otherwise I'd just go with dress shoes. I would bring an overcoat for your suit. Also maybe some gloves. Plus/minus a hat. Just depends on the weather, but it can be pretty cold up there this time of year.

Can anyone who's already interviewed tell me about how student hosting works? My interview's on the 8th and I still haven't heard back from them

I didn't hear back about my host until 3 days before my interview. If you are nervous, it doesn't hurt to send them an email. That's what I did.

I heard back the day before I was going to get to Chicago and it worked out great! Pretty stressful though to be waiting until the last minute. Do you have a hotel as a backup?

So for the round of decisions coming on December 15, are the possible outcomes different than they were for October 15? Will it now be accept, reject, and hold? It was just accept or hold on 10/15.

It's December 21st, and I think it's still accepted or continued.

I know this question was asked before, but I don't think it had a clear answer. Can people who were continued in October be accepted in December or are these decisions made closer to April when accepted students choose different schools?

In the past, applicants were rarely rejected post-interview though it does happen. Applicants that are placed on hold will be periodically reevaluated and can be accepted in the future.

At least that's how things worked in the past. I'm unsure if that's still how things are going now with the new admissions director.

Wow been complete here for 3 months and change, still radio-silence...I thought this place had a 4-6 week turnaround post-secondary, per the website at least.

Oh wow, I feel your pain. In all honesty, I find the radio silence this cycle to be quite baffling, especially since it's not accompanied by folks posting IIs on here...May be most folks receiving IIs read SDN from the sidelines (because surely, schools must be interviewing), or just aren't on here; who knows?🙁. One of the argument's i've heard for the slow pace is the new MCAT, but isn't there a quick fix to that (just look at the percentiles, problem solved).

I also kind of wonder if it's because so many people have applied early. Everyone applying early might cause an epic backlog.

It's hard to deal with, but I'd rather know that adcoms took the time to really give my app the time of day, instead of cursory glances to satify a particular time frame.

Fair point, but the mantra to apply early has been around for a long time-- and i'm assuming applicants have always heeded this advice; I don't see why this cycle would be the exception. May be there's just a significant increase in # of applicants.

At any rate, you raise a strong point: better to be comprehensively evaluated than rejected after only a cursory eval.

Maybe the combination of everyone applying early and the new system at AMCAS that has made verification MUCH faster for the past two years means more people are complete earlier.

Is it bad that I'm already counting down the days until February 22nd?...It's about to be one long wait.

Is it safe to assume that if I haven't gotten an II, rejection, or put on hold that my application just hasn't been reviewed yet?

Same situation. Complete since early August. I talked to them on the phone about something else and they said my application was still in consideration. Which kinda sounds like it had already been reviewed....

I've been lurking for a while, but for anyone who hasn't heard from them yet, I was complete near the end of July, and received an II in late November. So if they say it's still in consideration, I think it really is 🙂

I know this has already probably been asked, but updates are just emailed to the Pritzker admissions email, correct?

I did mine as an attached PDF in an email to admissions! And they let me know they added it to my file a couple days later 🙂

How does one go about sending grade updates? Can we email them a copy of our unofficial transcript, or is there a more formal process?

Getting excited for the 21st. Would love to hear good news!

I will be overseas where my cell phone doesn't work and am waiting to here about my decision on the 21st so I was wondering if anyone knows how else people are notified of their acceptance or continuation ? Thanks!
