2015-2016 University of Chicago (Pritzker) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those who have interviewed here, what are some good hotels near this area to lodge in? Does anyone know anything about La Quinta suites?

the only decent hotel option is Hyatt Place Chicago-South/University Medical Center. Ive heard bad things about the La Quinta (although it recently changed to La Quinta so maybe it's better than what it used to be. and I think its now recently renovated).

I know it won't affect their opinions, but I like to do it as courtesy. I've worked full time for a while so a. I'm used to sending thank you's after interviews and b. I was always happy to receive them from people I had worked with, even if it didn't affect what I was doing for them. In some cases it even made my day. I remember some schools specifically telling us to send our thank you's to the admissions office and NOT directly to the interviewers so that's what I was trying to confirm here (all schools are now starting to blur together, LOL). If you interview here at Pritzker I'm assuming they are fine with us emailing our interviewers directly?
Ah yes that makes sense. Direct email is the way to go at Pritzker.

I'm a little late entering this thread...but I keep seeing many of you receiving scholarships? Did you have to apply for those separately?

Nah man they just offered it upon acceptance for me

Do any med students possibly reading this thread have any success stories about getting off "hold?" I really, really enjoyed my interview day and thought the interviews went well and so the hold really bummed me out. Especially considering it was so early. My confidence in my interview skills have certainly been shaken

You mean you got continued right? Or is there a "hold" status in addition to continued?

Entering week 9 of waiting for any kind of response. Please tell me this is the tail end of waiting.

Are the people on this thread who are asking about their confirmation letters ACTUALLY concerned that they imagined their phone calls? :eyebrow:

It's more of a feeling of too good to be true, especially when they throw scholarship numbers in the mix lol. Everything they say in the phone call just goes in one ear and out the other so the details are nice to receive 😛

I guess so. Details WOULD be really nice to receive +pissed+

Is it pointless to send an ITA email since I was put on hold?

How can one tell that one is on hold? Does the status on the portal update itself?

My portal status was changed to "Application Held for Later Review" a while ago.

I'm sorry to hear that 🙁 How long did it take your status to go from "Your completed application has been sent...." to hold?

Around two months

If we want to send an update letter, should we just send it as a pdf attachment in an email to admissions? I feel like that's better than writing it in the body of the email itself...?

That's exactly how I would do it - looks more professional, and you can put a header with the name/address of the school, etc. Some schools will give you specific instructions on them (who to email or if they should be directly mailed), but most won't.

Thank you! Their continued email just said to contact them with any updates without giving any specifics, and I thought that would look nicest!

Rejected pre interview today, complete late July, LizzyM 76. Stressed myself out enough where its almost a relief to finally know.

Anyone have any idea how big the MD/PhD program at Pritzker is? How many students do they typically interview/accept for the MSTP?

Its identical to the e-mail. Then there's a form for sending them your "hold my spot please"
So I'm out of town and won't get my letter for two weeks, is this time sensitive? Or is it just more to help the school figure out stuff on their end?

Actually, it looks like you need to return the forms within two weeks. You just have till May to make final matriculation plans.
Hmm, maybe I need to reread those letters, oops! Sorry for any misinformation!

2 weeks to send them back your aamc ID and a copy of your birth cert

normal sized letter. A little packed to the max, but it'll fit

guys... can't stop reading this lol

"In addition to your acceptance, we are also delighted to inform you that you have been awarded a full tuition merit based scholarship, which will be applied in fourteen equal parts to each quarter of your registration as a medical student. This award is made possible by the generosity of individuals who have been touched in some important way by the Pritzker School of Medicine."

I've been in love with this school forever and I'm so glad they love me back hehehe I've found the love of my life *swoons*
Oh birth certificate.... Ugh it's going to take months to obtain that (different country). Thanks for mentioning it so I'll have it ready just in case I get in.
