2015-2016 University of Colorado Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
To those fortunate souls who have already been admitted, have you received any word as to what branch you've been assigned? If I recall correctly they said that branch selection would be sometime in May.

They mentioned that last week they started meeting about selecting people for CSB. I would imagine that decisions would go out in a week or 2.

I spoke with Dr. Wallace last week (Friday) and he said they would be meeting soon to discuss who they were selecting so I would also gamble on a week or two.
That sounds about right. I was notified by mail about this so keep your eyes out for that.

It means more than 100 people would have to decline their offers for the WL to open up.

Its likely many people have already declined prior to traffic day. They seem to regularly give out over 300 admissions offers to fill their class per past forums and the US News/MSAR so wouldn't doubt more wait list people will get in. That or it would be a highly abnormal year. All just second hand information so definitely take it with a grain of salt.

Does anyone know anything about the Post-Baccalaureate Program? It says online that the applicants are chosen from the MD applicant pool each year?

Does that mean wait list movement has started?

No not necessarily. Most likely has not started yet. Last update was 4/18/16 saying 255 offers had been sent out, followed by 5/12/16 saying 260, so only 5 additional offers have gone out between those dates. This could have happened prior to traffic day for all we know. I believe they sent out 316 offers last year, so if similar stats hold true for this year, they will extend another 55 offers roughly. The big question is, when? It appears that they began sending out offers to the alternate list immediately after traffic day last year. I've called the admissions office trying to find out more about the process (does the committee meet on certain days before they extend offers to the WL? How big is each tier of the WL?) although was unable to find any information other than, "a lot of students have dropped from the class this year" and "this is when they start to extend offers to the WL but could be any time up to August".

From what I understand from a brief conversation with a classmate that entered through the program it is comprised of a very small group of students (like 6) who are accepted to the MD program if they successfully complete it. I believe these individuals are contacted directly with the offer to join the program (i.e. there is no application process). I have no idea what the selection criteria.

The people that are selected for the post-bac program are offered a committee interview. These people are pulled from the applicant pool. I know of people that were pulled and did not have an interview during the regular cycle as well as people that did have an interview during the regular cycle.

The requirement, if you are accepted, is to complete a years worth of upper division science course work at the downtown campus and keep a certain GPA. For the people in my class this also required a retake of the MCAT with a certain minimum score. It sounds like the MCAT requirement might be phased out, but I am not sure if that is true or not. As for selection criteria, I am under the impression that they prefer to select non-trads or URMs that the school feels would be a good fit but would stand to benefit from some intensive school work to prep them for medical school.

As far as I know the number of people accepted to the post bac for the last four cycles has been 3-4 students, and they interview about double that. There is also a cohort of post-bac students for the dental school, so in total between the two schools there are 6-8 students in the program.

Anyone have any idea about what might be holding them up? If a lot of students have dropped I am at a loss as to what they could be waiting for.

Accepted today off of wait list ! OOS, interviewed in February. Likely withdrawing as I have a more affordable option ! Hope my spot goes to one of you waiting !

When in February did you interview?

Has anyone else got news? I'm just starving for information.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what is in the snail mail acceptance letter? I am trying to get everything in based off of the website information, but some things seem to be lacking (addresses for some of the forms, info about getting a school ID/account, facebook etc..)

Just want to be sure to get things in asap, as I got in off the top third waitlist last week.

I just emailed the forms in (scanned them) and they seemed fine with that. I asked for the student ID# but they didn't reply about that. I may just call in at some point today. No clue as far as Facebook group.

Edit: Just made the call and they said it takes several weeks (3-4) for everything to process so for the deposit check you can just write your AMCAS ID# with no student ID# required.

You will be contacted this summer about the ID and plans for the fall. Look for emails from Vidal. As for the facebook, I'm surprised that hasn't been widely advertised to you yet. Here is the link where you can ask to join. Note, it may take a few days to get approved. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1518911331738066/?__mref=message

Just officially denied via email, was IS on mid-third waitlist. Any word how far into the top tier waitlist they made it?

Just got a rejection while on the wait list? Is this a common thing?

Did anyone on the top tier of the wait list get this email? I haven't got one.

I have not either. However, I have been having email issues with this school. I found my interview invite in my junk folder and never got the waitlist email. I had to contact the school to re-send it.

Edit:
I have also meticulously searched through my junk folder and have not found a rejection email. I believe claduva94 is correct, in terms of the top third of the waitlist still remaining.

This happened last year. They gauge early movement so there is no need to keep the waitlist unnecessarily long. Waitlist obviously hasn't finished so that is why the upper tier waitlist will remain.

Congrats to everyone accepted so far! Also, if anyone is interested, the admissions tracker has been updated.

starting to really lose hope for the top tier. 😢
I feel you. If it makes you feel better I've been obsessively checking the CU class of 2020 Facebook page and it still only has 156 members. Four are admins so unless 32 people have opted not to join the Facebook group (seems unlikely) then it seems there are still a fair number of spots open. That's what I've been telling myself anyway.

Has anyone heard about their acceptance to tracks and/or the Colorado Springs branch?

Anyone know if student health insurance is part of the tuition cost, or part of the CoA?

It's not included into the 'tuition' cost, but it is built into the number that financial aid estimates you need to take. If you go to the portal > student center > student functions > view financial aid > 2017 > financial aid summary > then click on the hyperlinked value next to 'Estimated Financial Aid Budget' and you will get a full breakdown of what they are taking into account with that number. Hopefully this helps you!

I know this isn't the best forum for this, but I thought I might have a captive audience, and I've heard mixed reviews on the subject.

I know that University of Colorado takes, predominately, in-state students. But, are they apt to interview those with extremely strong in-state ties (i.e., 70% of my family is from Denver, Larkspur, C-Springs, etc.)?

Thanks, guys! I'll be a re-applicant next cycle, and I would love to add this awesome school to my list 🙂

Yes! Many of my classmates from OOS got interviews this way. There is always a chance

Formally rejected today from HPL. The letter included the choice phrase: "Please be assured that our decision is not a reflection of your general suitability for medical studies." Ouch y'all.

Does anybody know anything about the dinners scheduled on the night of August 5th?
